This restaurant has outstanding food and I would go there more often if it were not for the cramped placement of the tables. They are spaced to that the wait staff can barely fit through and the overall feeling when I am dining there is that it is uncomfortable. A woman stopped by the table next to us and stayed talking to the occupants for quite a while. This made it even more cramped for my table.

From Starters to entree's and through desert we were so very pleased with our experience. The wait staff treats you with the warmth and hospitality of a family member. The food was memorable as was the wait staff. The Chef was out and about when he could, and was gracious. Take a trip to Sardinia tonight, and enjoy.

Some items on the menu stay the same; some are new. No matter what I order, I am always very happy with the dining experience at La Ciccia. Attention to detail remains as high as ever. And who can resist the warm welcomes from Senora Lorella all the way down to the bus boy. La Ciccia has become a San Francisco institution - and so it should.

  • Savory approach to Italian Cuisine

Wonderful rustic approach to Italian cuisine. We placed ourselves in the very capable hands of our server, Phillip and he guided us through the menu and suggested wines to go with each course. We tried a couple of the house specialties, octopus stew and a spaghetti dish with a garlic infused and spicy oil, very tasty! I wish I could remember the wines Phillip suggested for each course, they were so good that I asked him to write the names down for us, and although he advised us that we would probably not be able to buy them in the Bay Area, he wrote the names on one of the restaurant's cards, which I've lost!....Main courses were a wonderful pork loin with saffron onions, and my dining partner had a dish I am going to have next time, seared Lamb Tenderloin. Reservations are hard to get, but we lucked out because we were going for a late lunch/early dinner and were able to get reservations as they opened (5:30)...We noted that there were many regulars coming in through the night, by the time we left @ 7 the restaurant was full. The food is delicious with a spicy approach to Italian cuisine, this is not the restaurant you want to go to if you have to watch what you eat.

This was our first time here and will not be our last time either! The food here is wonderful with excellent ingredients that make up for dishes that will make you want to come back. The owners are manning the restaurant themselves with the wife being the host and the husband being the chef. Both are adorable and very Italian in the sense that you wouldn't mind sitting down with them for dinner and have a great time. the staff is incredible in its knowledge of the dishes and helping decide what is the right wine. We started out with the flatbreads and the salami dish of today. They do serve regular bread but please pass it up and ordered the flatbread you won't regret it. Each night they have specials.

I'm from Sardinia and dinner at La Ciccia was like taking a quick round trip business flight back home and back to SF. Dishes were extremely tasty, in a way that could only be a combination of careful pick of ingredients (i.e. fish and vegetables) and perfect execution. Also great wine list. Highly recommend.

La Ciccia is a small San Francisco neighborhood gem with a regional draw. The restaurant is just about always full and reservations should be made well in advance. This Sardinian restaurant is unique, being one of the only Sardinian restaurants in the entire country. Food is excellent, reasonably priced, and innovative. The wine list has hundreds of Sardinian choices. Ask the wait staff for help in choosing a wine that pares well with your dinner.

I hesitate to recommend this too highly ... because it's hard enough to get into this outer Noe Valley gem - truly a great small restaurant, specializing in Sardinian Italian traditional meals - seafood, game, lamb, pastas - it's all prepared well, served attractively, and wonderful tastes. Their sea bream, baby octopus, sardines, lamb, the occasional boar dish, all exquisitely prepared and served, unpretentiously. One of my few favorites in the city.

I keep returning because the dining experience is ALWAYS excellent. The food is as good as it gets - each time seems better than the last, if possible. The wine list is extensive, and coupled with the hostess (Lorella) and the waiters' knowledge I simply tell them what my price range is, and they find the perfect wine for the meal. From my first time there I was greeted as if I were family - not at all put on. No mater what one orders - food or wine - it is never less than absolutely superb. It couldn't be better. It is expensive, but worth every dollar. You really get what you pay for. I cannot recommend LA CICCIA more highly. It is a "MUST DINE" experience, even if only on time. You will not forget it (totally in the positive sense.)

The people are warm and helpful, the food is wonderful (both the fresh pasta and meats/fish are among the best I've had anywhere in town) and they have an amazing wine list. The restaurant is tight - not a lot of seats - but everything else much more than makes up for it. Go!

LaCiccia is a near perfect restaurant. The only negative is that it's an expensive cab ride for me. Food and selection was fabulous. The lamb dish is a must. The wine choice can be left in the hands of the very competent staff. This place quickly made it to my top 10 list in the city. My list is void of the really high end (Danko, Saison, Coi, Spruce, etc.) places. Quite frankly, no need to spend that much when you can get such unique and well-prepared food like you get at LaCiccia. The food is the event.

This was a pre-flight dinner on our way to the airport. The manager/ hostess was extremely accommodating and friendly. We had 5 pieces of luggage and this place is pretty small but she quickly helped us feel right at home. The food, WOW... A friend of ours highly suggested La Ciccia and we now totally understand why. The wine list was vast and offered great finds at many price points. The calamari appetizer is a must but everything we had was basically "to die for". Our waiter was very helpful and when it came to wine advice he asked the hostess (probably the owner) for confirmation of his choice. It was a delicious caringnano from sardegna and it matched extremely well with the lighter dishes even! Hope to return.

Old friends from the Boston area learned of La Ciccia from their daughter in Seattle who once had a terrific meal here. They emailed us to ask if we knew of this Italian gem in SF their daughter raved about. We did. They arrived, we went, and la bella Lorella Degan, always attentive, always up-beat, listened to their story & accepted their gratitude for being there. Of course, the meal was terrific: from the Sardinian flat bread with rosemary and pecorino, to the amazing baked squid, then sardines, to our shared al dente pasta, an entree of delicate pork, and finally gelato and espresso, everything was fresh, timely, delicate, and both stomach- & soul-filling. They agreed: this evening was one of the high points of our 50-year friendship.

Went on date night and I felt like we were walking into a neighborhood restaurant in Italy. Food was very fresh and portions were large enough that we shared an appetizer, pasta and entree, and we left very full. First, we had a delicate saffron-spiced seafood soup that was very tasty, although it needed salt. Next, we had the pasta special with veal and sausage. The pasta was braided-ribbon shaped, which was new to me, but the sauce was a bit heavy and under spiced. Lastly, we shared the special fish which was swordfish with tapenade on a bed of cabbage. The fish was perfectly cooked and a large portion. The wine list was so extensive we relied on the waiter to advise us on wine, which was a smart decision! Will go again!

Outstanding food with intensely flavored sauces and perfectly cooked seafood. Lovely presentation on beautiful plates. Of note was our super knowledgeable and helpful waiter who was unpretentious and unhurried even though the place was packed. Then there's the massive wine list ranging in price from very reasonable to splurge-worthy. The only downside is that the tables have been crowded in too closely for such a small venue. We were practically part of the conversation of the three tables around us and the overall noise level was fairly high. Squeezing in and out of your chair required some maneuvering. Taking out even one table might help.

La Ciccia is a one of a kind and great restaurant. It just may be the only Sardinian restaurant in the area. Although probably classified as a neighborhood restaurant, it has a regional draw because of both high quality and unusual menu choices. Choices are Italian and continental with a Sardinian twist. The wine list is extensive and probably has representatives of every good winery in Sardinia. The wine list has about 200 choices, few of which were familiar to folks in our party. Wait staff is excellent in recommending wines for various courses. Parking is difficult. If possible, take Muni. The restaurant takes on-line reservations up to 30 days in advance. Try to book as early as possible to assure securing a reservation.
