La ChaumiereIt's Always a Special EveningLa Chaumiere is an old favorite that we recently rediscovered when taking out-of-town guests to a special place with great food. Following our rediscovery, my husband and I have enjoyed dining at La Chaumiere more than a half dozen times -- sometimes on our own, sometimes with others. Every dish that was ordered by my group was amazing, from the the baked mussels to the Grand Marnier souffle. The space is charming and romantic, and very european-esque. The service was stellar and the prices are modest, in my opinion, for the quality of food that is served. I found it just in passing and stopped in another local spot for lunch. The manager and a patron BOTH recommended the restaurant. The selections were very good. We had the Lobster Bisque and Escargot, both very nicely done. My husband's Duck was outstanding as was my special Sweetbreads entree. The Grand Marnier souflee was also good. The server split an entre of mussels for an appetizer for two of us, and they were phenomenal (and huge portions). Two of our party had the onion soup, which they very much enjoyed. The rack of lamb was outstanding, and beautifully presented. It was a dinner special here on the night we ate and they were fantastic. The portion was a decent size, especially since most French restaurants tend towards smaller portions. It was delicious. I also had the Grand Marnier souffle with creme anglaise. It was a light souffle, crispy on the top and soft and perfect on the inside. Great taste. It is cozy, and the food is delicious, traditional French food. We went for the Shad Roe, and it did not disappoint. The cheese soufflés at the next table looked pretty tempting, too. You cannot go wrong at La Chaumiere. It is on everyone's list of favorite restaurants! Dinner, service and ambience were excellent. From the lobster bisque, Magret du Cannard, to the souffle Grand Marnier, to the Sancerre and Bordeaux , and the cheese plate, it was all delicious. As always, the food was excellent and service, with one exception, was attentive and prompt. We had lobster bisque [exsquisite] and a ceasar [very good] to start, and Dover Sole and Sweetbreads [both, excellent] for our main courses. The entres were specials and lived up to the predictions of our waitress. The sole flaw with the service was associated with our wine. Our glasses were empty for two long stretches. The wine was stored away from our table. We finally resorted to asking other waitstaff to assist when our waitress did not appear. It was a small issue in an otherwise excellent meal and experience.
