La ChaumiereAfter a work event in DC,After a work event in DC, my girlfriend and I wanted a nice night out. La Chaumier received fairly high marks on several reviews online, so we gave it a try. The meal was fantastic. The escargots was served out of the shell, which very much helped with my apprehension. The cheese plate was small, but refined. My girlfriend's duck breast was crispy and temped perfectly. My rack of lamb was also the perfect temperature and the mustard seed crust added a wonderful crunch. Do not skip out on the chocolate soufflé, order it before you finish your meal. The presentation of the dessert is a show on its own. Highly recommended restaurant.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMtraditionalAlways dependable for excellent French food. How many places in the Washingrton, DC area serve Queneeles de Brochet?
Excellent vegetarian platter. There is no overload of surprises. You can readily taste the items that you ordered.
And...there's the souflees!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVive la FranceAbsolutely loved it! Wonderful staff, and amazing food! I was happy to eat French food that reminded me of restaurants in Paris. It was my mom's birthday and I added in the request on Open Table that I wanted a chocolate soufflé with a candle on it when we wanted to order dessert so I didn't need to say anything to the waiter. I would definitely go again!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA well known french restaurantA well known french restaurant for many years. You can still find old 'bistros' offering on the menu. Great place to spend an evening with family or friends.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways buzzing!La Chaumiere is amazing...it gets better and better. People enjoy themselves and each other. That is a quality in itself; however, the food and service match the ambiance, which is not always the case. We have been going there for years, to the detriment of trying new restaurants. The house was packed for our 7 pm seating, and on a Tuesday night! That speaks very well for La Chaumiere, and its charming owner, who takes a very personal interest and always greets us personally.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely wonderfulEvery time I return to La Chaumiere, I am reminded why this has been my favorite restaurant for so long.
We dined there on Saturday night and were celebrating a birthday. For our appetizers, we ordered the Baked oysters La Chaumiere, the gazpacho, and oysters on the half shell. All were delicious (especially the baked oysters, which are irresistable). For our main courses, we ordered the soft shell crabs Meuniere and the Dover sole Meuniere, which were delicately seasoned and perfectly prepared. I was glad I had skipped lunch! Despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy, the service was outstanding. The staff at this restaurant does a fantastic job and is very knowledgeable about the menu. We will return soon !6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLovelyLovely restaurant. Great atmosphere, great food, it's a very cute place. The only downside, if you can consider this a downside is that the service was a little too fast. It felt like the second we put our forks down they took our plate away and we were out within the hour. But overall very nice!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMTransported for LunchWe had a business lunch for three last week. The food - both the fisch special and a pheasant plate - were prefectly prepared and presented. None of us had the courage or time for desert, but I know it is extraordinary. La Chaumiere is a regular for me whether for a special business or personal occasion. It is reliable, has a wonderful, friendly staff, and will serve late.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLove classic French menuWe go when in DC for the great food and charming room. We have always had great professional service. Reserve a soufflé when you order! You will love it!!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThursday Night Special!!!Pros: We have only been on a Thursday night because of the special, Cassoulet "Toulousain. The Cassoulet "Toulousain is excellent!!!! The Grand Marnier Souffle is to die for!!!!
Cons: Stay away from the Lobster Bisque and the Escargots en Coquille way too much parsley, so much the escargotsare sitting in a sea of green not to mention the hint of licorice - very strange not what we are use to. The lobster bisque did not taste like lobster or have any chunks/bits of lobster in it..
Bottomline: If you like Cassoulet and Grand Marnier Souffles go on Thursday night and skip the appetizer.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodPrompt service, very well-prepared food, especially pike quenelles. Somewhat crowded seating arrangements.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVive la FranceNice location, food was great as was the service. Would highly recommend La Chaumiere.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful experienceWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal at La Chaumiere. The food was delicious and well prepared and the service was professional and experienced. It is a lovely restaurant that definitely gives you the feeling of being back in Paris. We would return here the next time we are in Washington DC.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMnice resto in heart of GeorgetownMy mother and I recently visited La Chaumiere on a visit to DC. It was a nice restaurant and the service was lovely. Entrees were quite good (we had the rack of lamb and salmon, both entrees and sides were very well executed) and we had a glass of Malbec that was quite nice. We had a chocolate souffle for dessert which I didn't feel was all that exciting, but was certainly good enough to finish off. :) The only caveat I would say is the parking - we parked across the street at the Four Seasons, as recommended by others, but instead of the restaurant validating our ticket we had to pay the restaurant $8 for parking and then take a sticker over to the Four Seasons to get our car out. That wasn't clearly explained beforehand.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOld FavoriteI love La Chaumiere, have never had a bad meal there. Sigh, it's a good thing I can't eat there every week.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousThe food was amazing !! Great for a casual outing and special occasions! Definitely order the soufflé!!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDON'T MISS A DELICIOUS FRENCH MEALNEVER A MEAL THAT WAS NOT ENJOYABLE AND DELICIOUS. GREAT SERVICE,
WONDERFUL OWNER AND HOSTESS
A SPECIAL PLACE ALWAYS: I HAVE LIVED IN DC, ALMOST 42 YEARS5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's Always a Special EveningLa Chaumiere is an old favorite that we recently rediscovered when taking out-of-town guests to a special place with great food. Following our rediscovery, my husband and I have enjoyed dining at La Chaumiere more than a half dozen times -- sometimes on our own, sometimes with others. The superb staff and excellent food always makes La Chaumiere a Special Evening!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely fabulous FrenchAbsolutely fabulous French food. This restaurant feels like you are in a small village in France. Very, very nice.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as usualConsistently excellent food and service! Been going there for years5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentWe were very pleased with everything about this restaurant. From the waiter steering us away from a particular dish (rare you get such honesty) to the delicious short rib entree. The orange hinted glaze was amazing. Excellent food and excellent service.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWent on Thursday night especiallyWent on Thursday night especially for the cassoulet - it didn't disappoint. Service was attentive but not overly so - will go again if I'm ever in DC again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAn amazing find - the foodAn amazing find - the food was unbelievable and the prices were incredibly reasonable given the fare. Highly recommend starting the evening with a Cheese Plate, and finishing with the Chocolate Souffle - be sure to order that when you order your meal. the service was wonderful, the atmosphere was energetic but homey. We will certainly be going back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSole was excellent. Pate wasSole was excellent. Pate was so-so. Good service. Not very fast.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite restaurantThis restaurant was referred to by a friend, and I will most definitely be referring this one to others. Every dish that was ordered by my group was amazing, from the the baked mussels to the Grand Marnier souffle. The space is charming and romantic, and very european-esque. The service was stellar and the prices are modest, in my opinion, for the quality of food that is served. I will be dining here again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressive French cuisineBeing french expatriated in the USA since 2011, this is one of our best french restaurant experience in the states. We decided to try french food in La Chaumière, especially because of the impressive menu, featuring some of the hardest french dishes to realize. While the service lived to be desired ( in a hurry, rough, not attentive), the food was amazingly good. We tried "Quenelles de Brochet" (fish soufflé in a lobster sauce) and found the same delicacy as the Lyon dish. We also tried "Saumon en croûte" (salmon in a puffy home made crust), perfect ! As desserts, we had a big "soufflé au Grand Marnier" and a "Sabayon aux fruits rouges" (Berries gratin in custard) . While we already were full, we enjoyed it to the last bite.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI can always count of LaChaumiereI can always count of LaChaumiere being a very fine experience.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were pleasantly surprisedWe were pleasantly surprised to stumble across La Chaumiere in two ways. I found it just in passing and stopped in another local spot for lunch. The manager and a patron BOTH recommended the restaurant. The selections were very good. We had the Lobster Bisque and Escargot, both very nicely done. My husband's Duck was outstanding as was my special Sweetbreads entree. The Grand Marnier souflee was also good. Very reasonably priced and our server and hostess were exception. We'll be back.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench bistro in GeorgetownFrench bistro in Georgetown with plenty of old world charm and traditional menu. Very enjoyable4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. WaitGreat food and service. Wait staff made knowledgable suggestions. A number of items on menu were not available. Duck was excellent. Specialty of the house,Boudin Blanc, although tasty, it had a consistency more like meatloaf than sausage. That is a personal taste of mine.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHad engagement dinner withHad engagement dinner with my fiancée. Arranged for flower delivery. Restaurant reserved a quiet corner without us even asking. The staffs were also very friendly and helpful. Everything was better than I had hoped for, especially considering it was a crowded Saturday night.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Find! Our dinner was outstanding! From the appetizers of oysters on the half-shell, escargot and delicious fois gras to the tasty entrees ending with wonderful cheeses and souffles! The dinner was out of this world! Also, there are some very reasonable and fine wines on the list! We will definately return and recommend La Chumiere!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing dinner. Worth theAmazing dinner. Worth the trip out to Georgetown. Delicious classic French food. The escargot was perfect. And make sure to save room for dessert, you won't be disappointed. I had the venison medallions with sweet potato puree. The venison was perfectly cooked.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis one was pretty good:This one was pretty good: as good as it gets in DC. Certainly, better than Corduroy and the rest of the pretentious but bland DC lineup.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for dinner on a FridayWe went for dinner on a Friday night -- the service was impeccable, as was the food. The server split an entre of mussels for an appetizer for two of us, and they were phenomenal (and huge portions). Two of our party had the onion soup, which they very much enjoyed. The rack of lamb was outstanding, and beautifully presented. We didn't save room for dessert, but the options sounded great -- will be back to try them out!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had sweetbreads which areWe had sweetbreads which are hard to find at many restaurants. It was a dinner special here on the night we ate and they were fantastic. The portion was a decent size, especially since most French restaurants tend towards smaller portions. The server was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this amazing spot!!We love this amazing spot!! My husbands parents have been coming here for decades to enjoy the amazing food and service, and now we drove four hours to enjoy it as well. Where else can you enjoy such French delicacies as sweetbreads, brains, and escargot prepared so beautifully!! The four hour trip and traffic nightmares quickly disappeared with each bite! Thank you for an amazing dining experience once again!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were superb.Food and service were superb.
