Diner Reviews
  • "Staff was very accommodating for our party, when a few members were a little delayed. Bar gave a great selection while waiting for the table."

  • "The best Guac I ever had but the food ends there. When the only person at the table who enjoyed her steak had a skirt steak you are in trouble. The meat was tough. The other aps were okay but a disappointment following such good guac. The service, however was good. The vibe in the room is good, as well as the music. I would simply only go back for drinks and guac. The restaurant has potential. Please work on your menu. If Steak is in your name then the steaks need to be top quality!!"

  • "Visiting from out if town and prebooked restaurant online. Waiter was amazing and friendly. They were extremely attentive to allergies. The Queso dip was unreal and the S'mores Empanada was to die for. Highly suggest this place for upscale casual."

  • "I celebrated my birthday with a group of friends here. We all had an amazing time and the food was delicious, we even got a complimentary dessert because of my birthday. (The guacamole is great!)"

  • "Met up with my college girlfriends at La Cenita for dinner and we had the greatest time. Love the energy level, music and delicious food! Would definitely recommend!"

  • "Regular margaritas were salty but other cocktails were outstanding. Food was good quality and delicious. Excellent restaurant week experience!"

  • "Loved every bite. The guacamole was some of the best in the city. The mac and cheese was phenomenal. However, it was my best friend's birthday and I made a reservation for 9:30pm. We didn't end up getting seated till 10:15pm. That's 45 minutes of waiting even though we had a reservation! We asked the waiter if he could comp something for our 45 minute wait and he said "yes", but when we received the check nothing was removed. I would like to go back but am hesitant for fear of making a reservation and not sitting for another hour. I wouldn't even be writing this if one item was comped for our long wait."

  • "The food is overpriced. Not even Bridge/Tunnel meatpacking gawkers will pay $89 for butter-poached lobster. They may well go for the $38 pork chop (which in our case had a heavy slice of fat and a generous chunk of gristle. Nine bucks for a double espresso is obscene, particularly when it comes in a single-shot cup ("it was all the bartender said he could fit in the cup"); the second single-shot cup arrived after 10 minutes and was tepid. The server might well have been on her first day on the job; although she was certainly trying, she misidentified Romesco sauce, wondered if we wanted "cream" with the espresso and (as described) was baffled by the concept of prompt after-dinner coffee service. Walk to Empellon Tacqueria instead."

  • "We went to La Cenita with friends we had visiting! Everything from the service, to the drinks to the food was absolutely great! The bar scene was buzzing and seemed like the place to be on a Saturday night! The food was incredible, everything we ordered was amazing, no one left disappointed."

  • "This place was really good. The inside is very nice. Nice for either a date or crowd of friends. The guacamole was our starter. Definitely recommended. Then we moved on to small plates with the langosta tacos being the highlight. For entree the duck chimichanga was delicious. It was a nice variation on a Mexican Classic. Desert was also good with the hazelnut flan. Cocktails were also excellent. Definitely check this place out. I'll be back for sure."

  • "We were looking forward to dining back at this restaurant. Boy were we disappointed! They shortened the menu, the food was bland, the portions were small, the service was poor and the kitchen was slow ( even though the restaurant was half full). The waiter put the menu in front of my husband ahead of me, forgot to order one of our dishes and was rarely around. She did apologize profusely for all. The bus boys changed our forks and plates frequently, even when the kitchen hadn't brought out any dishes. Staff really needs re- training. What a waste."

  • "The lobster tacos and branzino were really delicious! Such a fun, lively place...Service was spot on!"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. The cocktails were spot on and the services were the perfect size. Although everyone in my party got their own entrees, I could completely see them in a sharing/tapas style as well. We went for the restaurant week menu which was great and had a wide variety of food options. I had the skirt steak which was perfectly cooked and just the right size for one person who is relatively hungry. My one issue was, we were originally served guacamole and chips and not advised that it was NOT included in the menu for restaurant week. It was only because I brought that the salsa was the chip option included with restaurant week that we were not charged. Be sure to check what's included in the price."

  • "Foodie 4 restaurant week The food was really good. I had the chips w diff dips. We had the Kale Caesar (that was just ok) .. Lobster Tacos ... I had the steak w coconut rice and my friend had the fish. I had 1 Margarita and she had 1 glass of wine. We each had tea and had the yummy dessert. Restaurant Wk is supposed to be $38 pp minus tax/tip and any additions. We only ordered the 2 drinks and the 2 teas as an addition and our bill came out to $170 not including tip. When we asked about the bill which I normally never do, we were told some of the things we ordered off the menu, were extra $$ - not cool."

  • "Went for restaurant week. All the food was incredible. Drinks were delicious. Loved all the different salsas. Definitely want to go again!"

  • "Had doubts regarding their restaurant week menu- it didn't seem representative of their regular menu which sounded delicious and the options were limited. However, the food was outstanding. The salsas to start were all interesting and different. My friend and I each had the fish tacos and the chicken which was so moist and amazing, we were disappointed we couldn't take the leftovers home. The two desserts were also delicious."

  • "I loved the fusion of traditional Mexican food with unlikely nuts and sauces. It excited my palate was excited after my first bite of lobster tacos. The mixture of nuts in the guacamole was also a hit. The ambience enhanced my dining experience, the music selection made it less 'stuffy' as restaurants of that caliber can be. The service staff were very friendly, informative and helpful, our server Ron was very nice."

  • "Worst steak I have ever had in NYC. Overcooked and lacked any distinct flavor. Drinks were creative and strong. Make no mistake, you are paying to the neighborhood and not the culinary experience here."

  • "I arrived 30 minutes early planning to have a specialty cocktail. The restaurant and bar were empty as it was on the early side 6:30 on a Thursday , when I ordered my cocktail that were out of one of the ingredients so I had to change my order. The Hostess came over twice asking me if I was ready to get seated.I don't know what their rush was as the restaurant was empty. Slowly my party arrived and when we were finally ready to get seated, the hostess stood there, she NOT help us carry our drinks, while we struggled with our coats and packages. The food was delicious. The waiter was very helpful, but when we got our check there was 3 additional entrees on our bill! When brought to the waiters attention was very apologetic."

  • "La Cenita was accommodating, hospitable, respectful and a upbeat location. My girlfriend and I were running late due to the heavy traffic from rush hour, so we call and ask if our reservation can be delayed. They were able to hold something off for us until we got there, on one of their busiest nights. When we arrive 30 mins late to the restaurant they remembered us from the phone conversations and quickly served us. The staff was amazing especially Roxy who was on top of things making sure the environment and our needs were quickly pleasing and enjoying. The food was amazing to say the least from appetizers to the desserts are the most delicious i had in NY for a while. Thanks for a great evening La Cenita"

  • "Good quality food, awesome guacamole and black bean fundido ,great Margarita choices ( Pineapple Express was my personal favorite ). Nice ambience, a bit too loud to have a conversation. Very good vegetarian choices in appetizers but could have used more choices for main course. Very helpful and courteous staff, from the bar to table service. ."

  • "Tiny tables packed one on top of each other. The place had no real lure to it and the food was Par at best for NYC. The atmosphere was undefined and the service was not what i have come to expect from this management group. You basically end up paying money on the pretenses of the management group's otherwise great reputation. I was very disappointed with my overall experience and expected better."

  • "The food was hit or miss. The Guac was delicious. But main items were not as impressive. But, they play fun music and it's pretty lively. Margaritas here were not as good as I would have liked but the other cocktails were pretty good."

  • "Someone recommended this restaurant to me for my trip to NY and I would absolutely do the same now. we had booked a table for 9pm, but jet lag had kicked in and so we got there at 1830 and asked to be seated early. This was not a problem, and although it was fairly empty, there was still a great atmosphere. we were waited on beautifully, given great recommendations with the food, and just had a lovely evening over all. the food was delicious (some of the best tacos I have ever eaten) and the octopus...to die for! As we were leaving it was starting to get really buzzy. i would definitely have loved to be there for a late sitting if i wasn;tso tired. go go go before it gets too cool for school"

  • "We had a reservation for 6:45 on Saturday, got there 10 minutes late and were seated immediately. When we got there it was pretty empty but filled up as the night went on. Everything was great, I wouldn't order the Duck Enchiladas but even so they were still good."

  • "Terrific meal. Very interesting menu with a lot of options. The service made our evening. We were fortunate to have Walter, and asked him to order our food and he didn't disappoint. We never would have tried some of the apps ( octopus and shrimp tacos) . It was also fun to share all the food."

  • "Always wanted to try their chain of restaurants, kinda got scared With others comments/review. I most say even thou the tacos were very small, they were full in flavors I order the shrimp and chicken tacos and they were amazing, and fill me up pretty good People always have the perception of having lots of food on a plate will always satisfy your hunger, This people will def prove u wrong!! Drink were not my fav, but i did enjoy a crazy hot habanero margarita, on firee! The must try desert, omggg thank you chef thiago, "Fried rice pudding" to die for!! With the lil pieces if mango sorbet on the side, Delish!!!!!!! Def will go back!!!"

  • "The food was okay nothing amazing. All of our tacos were soggy although the actual fillings were pretty good. The corn side was my favorite dish. Also the kale caesar salad was very tasty. Drinks seemed overpriced so we stuck with an inexpensive bottle of wine. Service was good; our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Nice ambiance, good lighting. Don't think I'll be going back, but overall it was a good dining experience. In comparison to other tapas/small plate restaurants in the area it doesn't hold a candle."

  • "Food is very good, but terrible service. This was my third time there. Waitress was nowhere to be found. Never asked if we wanted to dessert. No one came around to replenish our water. Got tired of waiting when we finally found someone, asked for the check and left."

  • "The food recommendation from the waiter was fantastic. They were well seasoned, tasty and hot. We ordered the tuna and watermelon ceviche, crispy rock shrimp taco and duck enchiladas. Portion size was great, ideal for sharing. Drinks were good too! Desserts were outstanding, loved the fried rice pudding. The s'mores was alright, the graham cracker ice cream did not have much flavor but the consistency of the ice cream was smooth. The chocolate tres leches was surprisingly not overly sweet which is good. Will return again!"

  • "Plenty of attention to detail and many unexpected twists on this new-age Mexican restaurant. Food quality is high, portions appropriate to the price. Enjoyed (preferred!) the family style service. Cocktail menu shows lots of flair. Great selection of tequilas, if that's your thing. Knowledgable staff (food and bar). Dining room ambiance matched in character, less so in the bar area."

  • "Booked through Open Table - when we arrived the hostess tried to show us to a table on the upper floor as far away as possible from any other human habitation. We turned the table down. She then took us to the other end of the upper floor. There were tables for 4 people on the main floor downstairs. We asked for one of those. We were told you HAD TO REQUEST a table on the ground floor. I pointed out we had never been before, were visiting from the UK so how would we know that. Frankly they were a nightmare but we stood our ground and guess what - we got shown to a table for 4 on the main floor??????? The staff need to get over themselves. Food was overly spiced but waitress charming. Go to Catch across the road - Sensational!!!!!!!!"

  • "My family and I had dinner at La Cenita recently after holiday shopping and seeing a show. Although the restaurant is considered "Mexican" it is far more creative in it's choice and presentation of food than the typical Mexican eatery. We had a wonderful server, the music played was fun and upbeat and the food, of course, was delicious. It is a bit pricey relative to the portion size of the dishes but given it's location that is no surprise. It was an enjoyable dining experience and I would definitely recommend the restaurant!"
