Come with a group and enjoy the tapo and the wine. They have the best value in red wine, Casa Madero, the oldest winery in the Americas. Get some appetizers to start, and then feast on the beef.

The most outstanding feature of this restaurant is the superb service we received. From the bartender, Tory, and the rest of the staff. We enjoyed the fabulous stained glass brought in from New York on the stairway. The bar is special as well with beautiful leather and even the branding revealed. We enjoyed the queso fundido as an appetizer and the wedge salad. We were in a group so the restaurant is well suited to family style. We enjoyed the brisket, but not the pork tenderloin-it wasn't seasoned well. We loved the rum cake as dessert.

We visited as a family group for my father's 70th birthday and couldn't have had a better experience. The food was excellent and the service was friendly, attentive and informative. They even wished my father a happy birthday as he walked through the door. Highly recommended!

I'm used to fine dining & I love to go out to Houston's great restaurants but we were really disappointed. We had terrible service from the time we were seated. We had to ask for a drink menu several times & then had to ask to order cocktails which arrived after our appetizers. Several people asked how we were but our waitress wasn't one of them. We were asked if it was a special occasion; it was our son's birthday & when we ordered dessert we expected some recognition. Overall our sever was lost didn't know the menu or what types of tequila the bar had which you think would be fairly standard for this type of restaurant. We didn't get or doggy bag & with a tab of $400 for 3 I expected better especially since it wasn't a bust night.

My son, a recent college grad wanted to treat me to lunch for my birthday. Being mindful of his budget, and also time constraints due to our work schedules, I was a bit apprehensive to go somewhere I consider very upscale. I needn't have worried about either! Upon arrival were both pleasantly surprised with complimentary glasses of champagne...the food and service was excellent with some nice affordable choices. The fact that the hostess and manager remembered me from a previous visit and called me by name was very nice. At the end our server brought some candied pecans with a single candle and volunteered to take a picture of us. I truly had a lovely time and can't thank the staff enough for their part in making my day so special!

We were very pleased with our dining experiance. We both had the Rib eye steak and was impressed with the tenderness and flavor. All the sides were delicious as well. What really impressed us was that the owner walked around and conversed with each table. Great guy, great staff and great service. All in all one of our best dining experiances in a long time.

Casa del Caballo is a steakhouse which originated in Mexico and is different than the other steak places in town. Starters include Cortadillos (sirloin tips with bacon and serrano served with tacos) and main courses include enchiladas as well as chicken with chipotle, borracha or mole. Steaks are what you would expect of a steakhouse, but there is also whole pork tenderloin, smoked and juicy as well as smoked beef brisket (which is sometimes great but can be dry). They offer a tasty whole (4#) rib-eye cap which should serve 6 but not really if your party includes several teenage boys. The wine list is limited but has a reasonable selection, all within the budget for non-expense account dining and well chosen.

We've driven past this place numerous times, and even used to dine there when it was previously LaStrada. So glad we decided to check it out. Very professional, well–groomed and well-dressed staff greeted us. Upon entering, we found the colors and lighting inviting. Add to that the sound of live classical guitar and the sumptuous aromas coming from the kitchen, and we knew we were in for a special evening. Our waiter was Tony; a very friendly young man who took gret care the entire evening to ensure that we received more than just a meal, but a truly fine dining experience. I coul go on and on about how great the food was, but it must be tasted to be appreciated. Suffice to say it was superb in all aspects! We will be back! Soon!

The overall experience was wonderful. The food was delicious. The staff was polite and helpful. We came for HRW to kind of test the place out without breaking the bank. We ordered the carpaccio, salad, beef shoulder, brisket, tres leche and rice dessert. All were fantastic, especially since my fiance isn't a fan of most briskets and he enjoyed the one I ordered. We were able to enjoy a quite night out together with good food. We do hope to be back soon.

Dined here for the first time during last weekend of HRW. My friends and I ordered off the HRW menu. I had the 20 oz brisket. Smelled wonderful and looked juicy but was so salty it was inedible. My friends had the rib eye and said it was nothing special. The potato and bean sides were awful. The owner comped my brisket, which I appreciated but now I had nothing to eat ! Desert was flan, it was ok and tres leches, it was ok. For such an expensive restaurant to be just ok, not ok with me. Won't be back.

I went to Casa de Caballo twice, once for the lunch and once for dinner, and ordered off of their Restaurant Week Menu. I have a gluten-free diet and this restaurant has the most gluten-free options I've seen! It's nice to be able to eat wonderfully tasty food and not have to worry about it having gluten of any sort. There are even gluten-free desserts! The ambiance is amazing - the music, the paintings, etc. I would definitely recommend anyone who enjoys steaks and who is up for a treat to try this restaurant.

Four of us dined during Restaurant Weeks and took advantage of the special menu. We tried everything on the menu except the soup and the flan. The beef carpaccio and the salad were both excellent. The entrees were each cooked to exact specifications, and the vegetables were just right. Desserts were the finishing touches to a delightful meal. The service was attentive without being intrusive. We were able to carry on a conversation without raising our voices and felt very comfortable with the whole ambiance. One very nice touch that I have not experienced elsewhere was the offer to collect valet tickets as we were settling up our bill. Upon leaving, the car was waiting at the door. We will definitely go back!

Had their "Eye of Ribeye" & Enchilada plate.. Enchiladas were amazing. Eye of ribeye was different than your run of the mill steakhouse ribeye, had a smokey flavor to it, but was also very tasty. Place seemed a bit too dark for my liking, prefer a better lit dining experiance.

Dear Casa del Caballo folks, Congratulations! You’ve been able to make a good transition from your native Mexico into the US market. The ambience was very good, location was superb, as was the friendly service. The “cebollitas” en salsa roja, and your hot sauces, were outstanding. Not so was your beef. While mine was well-done, my wife’s was “less than well done”, and both were dry. While both steaks tasted good, we immediately compared our steaks to what we’ve had at local Brazilian rodizios (i.e .Nelore, Fogo de Chao). I appreciate your request for feedback and wish you good luck in your endeavors!

I came here for Houston restaurant week. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves a perfectly cooked steak. Everyone at the table was extremely satisfied with the cut of meat they ordered. I preferred the ribeye to the brisket but the brisket was great too. Also ordered the flan which was fantastic. We were not the biggest fans of the arroz con leche that came with the flan. Overall I would come back for a special occasion. Also if you can, I would suggest asking for a table on the first floor. The decor and ambiance seemed better on the first floor. The 2nd floor was very quite and did not look as fancy.

They made us wait 20 minutes past our reservation time for seating when another party of the same size walked in after us and was seated immediately. They brought the wrong food, gave away our steaks and offered brisket. Waiter was very inattentive and manager had to keep coming over. Meal too so long we had to take dessert with us. Food was mediocre. We went for lunch during restaurant week and I felt that was why our service was terrible- maybe they reserve their best service for those who pay full price? At least they comped the meals with the steaks. Would rate it zero stars if I could. Even after the terrible experience, they hyped their happy hour - as if any of us would come back. Zero stars if I could.

Their food is so yummy that I will totally go back again! First of all, they serve very healthy pre-meal snacks - Jicama, way much better than chips. Their salad is very fresh and I love the mexican dressing. My steak was medium rare, and it was flavorful, tender and juicy. It is better than most of fancy steakhouse I went in H-town. Their flan is heavy, sweet and taste lasting, it was so good that me and my friend almost want to order another one! Their service is very outstanding as well, everyone is professional, nice and friendly, food serving time is fast.I recommend this awesome restaurant to anyone who want to experience fine Mexican dinning in Houston.

We went to dinner at La Casa del Caballo during Restaurant Weeks, but we will definitely return year round! Our server was attentive, polite and had us feeling very pampered. We inquired as to where the lovely staircase in the lower dining room led; not only did he explain about a second dining area with window views of the city, but he also offered us a tour after our meal. When it was time to go home, he sent us with extra beans for our leftovers that my fiancé had enjoyed. He even gave the valet our ticket while we were getting ready to go so our car was waiting as we exited. Wonderful experience -- and that's not even considering the fantastic, flavorful, and generous food!

We had the new guy waiter. La Casa del Caballo pontificates the "Saltillo" style of cooking. I am a gringo but I have traveled many miles all over Latin America. My expectation was an explanation of "Saltillo" cooking, what I got was "It's a city in Mexico". Dick F**king Tracy, guess what I knew that! Finally found somebody who could explain the concept and we were good. Other requests: Can you put the Texans game on TV, did not happen. I would like a Michelada with Victoria - had to explain and I don't want a Michelada Cubano. I WANT A GLASS OF ICE WITH SALT A LITTLE LIME JUICE AND A VICTORIA. Now the food: AMAZING! Across the table we had salads, brisket, enchiladas, rib eyes, flan, tres leches...again very good food.

The food was very good and there are a lot more interesting and tasty items besides steak. The tortilla soup was very tasty and different from other versions since this is a North Mexican restaurant. The carnitas steak has an unusual football shape but is tasty and different than normal streaks. There were 4 interesting chilli sauces. Some surprising items were beef Carpaccio and brisket smoked and then braised in the cooking juices and beer. Everything tasted was great and am looking forward to returning to try other things such as their enchiladas. The service was excellent and the place is very nicely decorated. I ate in the downstairs restaurant area but there is an upper floor large deck area and bar that looks interesting.
