  • "I had an amazing time at La Calaca Feliz. Guacamole is ridiculously good and fresh! I had an amazing grilled corn on the cob that was seasoned with deliciousness. The mojitos were the best I ever had. Great food, atmosphere and drinks."

  • "Two of us arrived a little early and we were set up at a double table outside to accommodate our party of five. We were able to wait comfortable for the rest of our party, who arrived very late for our reservation. We ordered and were served as soon as we were situated."

  • "Overall, really enjoyable experience, some of the better Mexican food we've had in Philly. Tacos (both the mushroom and Pasteur) we're great but as other reviewers have mentioned - very messy!"

  • "I LOVE their feliz margaritas. The cauliflower tacos are one of my favorite foods in Philly!"

  • "We loved the food at the place! we did the tasting menu which was only $29 each... we had guacamole, hamachi ceviche, heirloom tomato Tlayuda (which is like a flatbread), then boneless baby back ribs, a chicken taco type thing, then some grilled shrimp ove tequilla grits.. It was so much food i thought i was going to explode. The drinks here are good but small... and not cheap.. that's the only minor minor thing that kept it from 5 stars. Great outdoor patio too"

  • "I've been here several times this year and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. A little noisy but overall a great casual spot for friends or business."

  • "Sit on the back patio, if you can - it's shaded, so not too hot, but open, and it makes for a quieter meal than in the dining room. (Had we been inside, I'm sure I would have checked "energetic" for the noise level.) Guacamole was reliably good, although I thought the portion was a little skimpier than usual. We shared the kale salad - nice balance of flavors, kale could have been cut a bit smaller - and my friend had the tacos al pastor. Delicious and different, like much of the menu. As for me, I've been here probably 7-8 times now, and no matter how much I promise myself that I'm going to branch out and get something else, I always end up getting the mushroom tacos. They are THAT good! Desserts = meh. Happy hour is excellent/popular."

  • "After reading good reviews of La Calaca Feliz, I chose this restaurant for my Sunday evening birthday dinner. The food was terrific & the service outstanding. Our server, Lelac (sp?), was attentive and pleasant. Great atmosphere. However, the place has really poor acoustics and the noise just reverberates. I love high energy restaurants, but it was hard to hear each other speak. If the noise would bother you, there is an outdoor patio which would be great on a nice spring/autumn day. Try the Garcia Margarita! Guacamole, thumbs up. The Mexican flat bread with heirloom tomatoes was nicely done. We didn't order it, but the shrimp & grits looked fabulous. Next time..."

  • "This restaurant offers far from your typical Mexican fare!! The Tuna Ceviche with melon and jalapeno was very good, different, but small. The other appetizer, the Chorizo Fondido was spicy, cheesy and real tasty. Our server, Danielle, was attentive and engaging and was not intrusive. I have to admit, our expectations of the sangria exceeded the reality by a considerable margin. The tacos al Pastore were flavorful and the tacos carnitas were also really good. My only disappointment (other than the sangria) was the portion sizes of all of the dishes. The good news is that the food comes really fast so when you realize you want to order seconds, you won't have long to wait. The food is good, the place is fun and the service was great."

  • "I've been here several times and have never had a bad experience. The servers are very helpful with the menu, and the food is just great. This time it was a little loud, because of the large group seated next to us, but overall it was another great night at La Calaca Feliz."

  • "Every time I come to this place I am amazed at how much I love it. I am not someone who craves Mexican food, and generally leave feeling stuffed and heavy/greasy, or like I paid too much (if it's not a taco cart). However, La Calaca Feliz has such an awesome menu and great drinks. The food is authentic and tasty and somehow, even feels light while still serving nice big portions. Wish I could dine there every week. Only downside is that sometimes the wait can be annoying. Make sure to have a reservation."

  • "It wasn't that crowded when we arrived, but by the time we finished it was. We were very glad to be eating outside as it got rather loud inside. The food was very good (but not extraordinary) and our server knowledgeable. Only issue was that I ordered a margarita and it came with salt on the rim, which wasn't specified on the menu or when ordered. Server didn't have any issue with remaking sans salt."

  • "Wow, what a nice find!!! The service is outstanding from the minute you walk through the door, everyone on the staff seems to want to help you! Our waiter was excellent, the food was delicious, and it's a great atmosphere. We started out with the guacamole, it comes out in a huge molcajete bowl and was delicious. We all had different types of tacos for dinner, along with a bunch of sides, everything was great. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Also, if you don't like street parking (we're from Jersey, and prefer parking lots:-), there is a convenient parking lot about two blocks away that you can pay a small fee to park. We will definitely be back!!"

  • "We love this place. My usual is the carnitas tacos. Guacamole is outstanding and the house sangria is the perfect summer drink. We went to one of the Backyard BBQ dinners where they cook in a caja china. We had the tilefish and it was delicious. Will definitely go back for the mako shark. I have never been disappointed!"

  • "We had a pretty nice dinner here. The food was pretty good - nothing outstanding for the prices though. $9 gaucamole - really?! I guess you are paying for the ambiance. I had the seafood enchilada - a little too heavy on sauce for the delicate seafood. Fish tacos were okay - tasted like tilapia - cheapest fish out there. Also got the tacos al pastor - these were very good. Overall an "okay" rating like I said. Of course the company you are with makes it better - as well as margaritas."

  • "We always have an excellent experience at La Calaca. From the service to the food quality they excel above most restaurants in the area. Even the manager Zach is super attentive. Can't wait till our next visit!"

  • "My family (5) visited for dinner on Sunday. This was my first visit to this establishment. We had the Tasting Menu. It was SOOOO much food - and all delicious. From guacamole to plantains, everything was so tasty. The Baja Fish tacos and Grilled Shrimp w/ Tequila grits, bacon corn salsa were our favorites though. We are still enjoying the leftovers at home. Cannot wait to visit again!"

  • "Everything was delicious! My husband and I love getting the chefs choice every time we see it on the menu. We could not stop talking about how delicious and beautifully presented everything was. Our server, Nina was the best!"

  • "The guacamole (regular) is delicious (though, as with many serve-in-a-mortar spots, it looks like they give you more than they actually do), though the chips were slightly stale. The tacos al pastor were good: succulent meat, though I would've liked a second lime wedge, more pineapple chunks, and maybe some pickled jalapeno to kick up the flavor. The virgin margarita with a pineapple shot was very strong--I preferred it slightly watered down. La Calaca Feliz's backyard courtyard is very appealing."

  • "Went on a whim, made res via OT. 4 of us had the place to ourselves. My wife loves their seafood dishes and sangria. I like their tacos and margaritas."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "I was very happy with the chips and guac, and the taco's were even better. However, the margarita's were small and lacking quality of presentation for the price."

  • "From the nachos short rib appetizer to the mango and tequila sorbet the entire meal was delicious. Wonderful baha tacos and fabulous margueritas. Guacamole also excellent -- all you could want from a Mexican menu. The noise level was a bit high by the end of the evening but the service was excellent. Highly recommend."

  • "A group of my friends (6 of us) just ate here in Wednesday evening in the back patio. Some of us had the guacamole, ceviche as apps and fish tacos, flank steak and shrimp entrees. Everyone loved their dishes and enjoyed the wine and margaritas as well. The service was great; the waitress was very attentive. We would definitely go back."

  • "Delicious fresh Mexican food - but the noise levels on a Saturday night are intolerable . We will come back on a weeknight for sure . Yummy fish tacos, great marguerites , delicious guacamole , spicy corn side dish was phenomenal "

  • "We were seated promptly... the ambiance is a lot of fun with fabulous murals, light fixtures. I loved walking past the open kitchen as we were seated. We ordered he special spread that evening & shared it . Delicious. It was a lima bean spread with a thin layer of cheese... We ordered the jicama salad, also delish & the we both got tacos. I got the cauliflower, SOOOOOO good & my husband got the chorizo... he really enjoyed them! Our eyes were bigger tan out stomachs, so we could not finish our tacos & brought them home.... Delicious lunch the next day! It's a really fun restaurant with great food. Easy parking & our server, Isis, was very professional, made great recommendations &made us feel welcome! Can't wait to go back!!"

  • "I recently went for a 'Backyard BBQ'. Great server and food. After the meal we went to the bar. Bartender seemed ambivalent and distracted. Mind you, this was a maybe a 12 seat bar and there were, at max, 6 people there."

  • "Had a delicious, fun meal at La Calaca Feliz. Margaritas and Nachos at the bar during happy hour are the best deal. Best nachos i have ever had and the portion even during happy hour is sharable. Then went to dinner not too hungry. The tortilla soup was hearty and delicious and a meal in itself. Crab dip was outstanding. Finished with soothing banana ice cream. Loved this place. Not for the dieter. Outdoor dining very charming."

  • "The dining experience at La Calaca was very good. The location is great since I live down the street. The server did a great job and was very attentive on Cinco de Mayo. The gentleman and the lady who greeted us (Hosts) weren't very friendly. I suggest a smile in the future."

  • " La Calaca Feliz has excellant margaritas. The margaritas are only five dollars a piece during the happy hour, which runs from four to seven. There are also food items discounted for happy hours at the bar. The Asparagus Tlayuda is very good as are the Carnitas. "

  • "May 4, Sunday. Pros - Service & staff professional & very willing to please. Location. Clean. Dining indoors & out. Good use of space. Fun ambience that was pleasant to eat in. Great drinks. Very Unique. Would definitely go back & recommend. Cons - my 1st time there & I don't know neighborhood but parking could be tough but I found spot relatively quick but I used to park a lot in Hoboken, NJ. Drinks not cheap but SO GOOD."
