A word from La Brezza Ristorante
La Brezza, meaning ocean breeze, is considered to be one of Calgary's finest Italian restaurants. Opened in 1987 and still in its original location - once the owners house, La Brezza continues to offer an elegantly simple Italian cuisine, emphasizing traditional home-cooked goodness. You can enjoy a satisfying lunch and dinner menu with daily specials and you can even indulge on Sundays as we are one of the few local restaurants open 7 days a week. We pride ourselves in offering great food, great service, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. See you soon! Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter James was excellent. Although the restaurant was extremely busy, he was jovial, charming and efficient, passing remarks with each and every one and remembering specific requests. This was our first occasion to visit this restaurant and we will definitely be returning."

  • "As usual food was good and the service was also good. I would only say that my pregnant wife had a hard time getting into her chair at first as tables were tight. I ordered porter house special which was sold out 1/2 hr following restaurant opened. All minor things all in all."

  • "We enjoyed the food but in spite of them knowing that we were celebrating a Birthday, there was no effort to put a candle on the desert or something like that. The next table did have a candle though! What did we do wrong???"

  • "La Brezza Ristorante main attraction is food quality, quantity and value for money. The selection is OK for both appetizers and main courses. Service was efficient. Desserts selection and quality could be improved (not the best Tiramisu and no efforts on presentation in the plate). Wine list could be improved (mostly unknown Italian wines: we picked a red blend which was OK). Decoration of the rooms should be updated and upgraded (stange feeling of a poorly maintained old house)."

  • "My husband and I both chose the special. Which consisted of a 3 course meal. Brushetta bread, choice of soup or salad, main dish of veggies, pasta and steak. It was very good at an affordable price. Highly recommend that you have reservations if planning on dinner. Walk ins are most usually turned away."

  • "This is an excellent little neighborhood restaurant with great ambiance. Unfortunately, they never seem to have my favorite dish - the linguini alle vongole."

  • "First time we have visited this restaurant and it won't be our last. We were a table of four and were able to talk comfortably without having to bellow over music. The food was delicious, and the service impeccable. Definitely a place to revisit. It was nice to see the smiling owner going around the tables checking on his guests. Great!"

  • "I really, really loved this restaurant! It's a little smaller than many other restaurants but that's a good thing. The food is delicious and staff is really nice - both helpful and polite. The owner of the restaurant is also really nice, he took time to talk to everyone at every table - something that seemed to be appreciated by every guest, including me! :)"

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful meal and relaxed date night at La Brezza. This quiet neighbourhood gem is great for a small party or larger group. Service, atmosphere and food were all top notch! This is a great dining experience outside the downtown core! Highly recommend!"

  • "Warm & Cozy very welcoming on arrival.nice table for 4. Room was full but not crowded. Waitress was very attentive not intrusive. Explained the evening specials very nicely. Our friends both had pasta specials and reported them to be excellent. Certainly they were very well presented. My wife's veal dish was not prepared the way that she had anticipated (had had it elsewhere). My lamb dish was beautifully presented, cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. The coffee to close the evening looked like dirty water and apparently tasted worse. My cappuccino was not bad but was not the best ever. The owner was there and he was very nice. All in all, a very nice evening in a very nice place with really good food. We will be back."

  • "Can not recommend the shrimp and scallop dish enough! Make sure you have some bread left cause you are going to want to soak up every last bit. We haven't managed dessert yet, too full from a great dinner."

  • "Second time there. Food was considerably delicious both times. Comfortable and cozy yet still classy. Owner came around and welcomed or chatted with guests. Great experience!"

  • "The food was incredible! I ordered the fetuccini carbonara and my wife the other fettucini. Both were excellent!! We also ordered the cheese selection, which together with the bread and olive oil, was delicious! The service was very good. Especially appreciated the owner of the restaurant seeing us off and asking us how things were. He gives very special service. Portions were big, we will return and order a little less food so that we can fit in the creme broulee next time. We will be back and recommend this restaurant!!"

  • "We made reservations via Open Table, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. She had not been to La Brezza before so it was a great surprise and treat for her. The appetizers were amazing - Gamberi alla Portofino, Bruschetta (super tastey; disappointed that they ran out of focaccia bread) and Cesare salad. The birthday girl had Fettucini all Brezza, my friend had her favorite Fettuccini alla Carbonara and I had the Linguini Mediterranean. We were all really impressed with our meals. Unfortunately do to the busyness of the restaurant it was slim picking for desserts. No Tiramisu, I ordered the last crème brule and we tried the Zabaglione. Best I've had. The service staff was attentive but transition of servers could be smoothier."

  • "We visited for the first time on Monday evening. We were 30 minutes before we were served even a glass of water. However, they were short on staff and when help arrived food came quickly. It look about 1.5 before we got to eat and we were not even offered an appetizer. I found the food over priced for the quality and dining experience overall so I didn't see value for my money. Food was tasty and server was friendly. However, wear a warm coat as the restaurant was freezing and my nose was runny it was cold."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. The service is very good and the food is wonderful. We got input from our waiter on recommendations based on what each of us were looking for to meet our different appetites. We all enjoyed our meals and the presentation was very nice. The serving size was just right for a hardy appetite. Two people in our party had a time constraint and they were very accommodating. Overall, was a great experience."

  • "The last time I eat at La Brezza was 25 years ago. Why I waiting this long to go back is beyond me. The food and atmosphere is excellent. Reasonably priced for high quality italian food. I'll make sure to not wait another 25 years to go back for more."

  • "Went to this restaurant last week as it was tagged as the #1 in Calgary. In our opinion it falls short of being #1. Have dined at other restaurants that we would rate higher. But at the end of the day we did enjoy our meal and would not hesitate to recommend it to others."

  • "My wife and I decided to try La Brezza for a post Valentine's Day early dinner (before heading downtown for the symphony on a Saturday) and we were not disappointed. Food takes a while to come to the table so if you're in a rush that would not be the place to go for dinner but if you like to experience a relaxed, quiet dinner with excellent food and wine in a small and warm venue La Brezza is the place to go to. We particularly enjoyed being able to talk across the table without having to contend with lots of background noise that is so common with many of the new, trendy restaurants. Definitely would come back again."

  • "Great little Italian restaurant in a converted house, nice atmosphere, excellent service. Food usually outstanding, but this visit lacked the usual kick that pushed it over the top. Will definaltly be back as this is the first time it hasen't really been outstanding..."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our dinner very much. They had a five course meal on a set menu this evening and every course was delicious. The restaurant is a renovated old Bungalow on 1st Ave NE which is unique, and the ambiance was good for a romantic dinner out. There were one or two families when we were there and couples filled every other table. Not a place you'd go to dine on a budget, but it was perfect for this special night out. Thanks La Brezza!"

  • "I don't write many reviews, but when I do, almost every review I write is to praise a restaurant for doing well. Sadly, this review may serve as a way that La Brezza might improve. What background might be helpful? My wife and I rely on Tripadvisor when we are in a city with which we are not familiar. La Brezza, we found, was #1 out of almost 3000 restaurants in Calgray, setting our expectations quite high. What happened to cause me to react poorly to the La Brezza? Three factors really influence my mediocre review of La Brezza: the wine corkage policy, the high expectations that I had, and the flavor and execution of the food."

  • "It seems La Brezza has gotten a bit lazy. I haven't been in a while , probably two years and in that time it seems to have dropped a peg. The wine list is limited unless you order a bottle , the beers are non existent ( only two Italian beers, both virtually identical) Service was dismal, I don't know how a server could get away with ignoring us and knowing nothing about the menu with the owner standing five feet away. When asked about the Linguini Scoglia , She replied " I don't eat fish so I couldn't say" Entrees were ok, Nothing more. On the flipside, The calamari here is my favorite and elevates the whole thing to an acceptable level. There was a time when La Brezza had a mystique in Calgary, Those days seem over"

  • "We went to La Brezza for our Anniversary. The food was good however the wine list was lacking. It is a small wine list and on the red list they were out of house wine, the feature wine and another type of wine which left us about 3 choices so we ended up paying $80 for a bottle of wine. Other than that we had a lovely evening."

  • "I wouldn't expect to get in and out of La Brezza in an hour, it's not that type of place. The owner came by to chat and then sat down and had supper himself. I guess that's a good sign when you aren't tired of your own food after 28 years."

  • "Four of us dined. We all had something different. All great entrees. The appetizers were the best though. Cheese and Meat plate, was very large with a nice variety of cheeses. One thing I wondered about was why there was no music or something playing in the background. Would have maybe drowned out the tables around. Due to it being an old house, it is a tight squeeze. Definitely will be back."

  • "7 of us ordered appetizers, entrées and desert. None were disappointed. The bruschetta was amazing, steak had lots of flavour and was cooked perfectly. Service was prompt and friendly and meeting the manager was a treat. Seeing as it is not a large commercial chain it maintained a great atmosphere, cosy and romantic. Would recommend for date night or family get together. Great job will be back!"
