Diner Reviews
  • "We made a reservation for 6 gents, arrived on time and were made to sit at a table that was not properly set, we're ignored by the waitstaff for 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken (the restaurant was half empty). Meals took 45 minutes and one had to be reordered. Run away from here."

  • "The best part of the dining experience was the bread for the table. The mixed drinks were imbalanced and unpleasant, and the service, though friendly, was non-existant/confusing. I received a wrong drink and then all of our utensils and side plates were cleared when the main course arrived, so we sat without utensils for 5+ minutes just staring at our cooling food. There are plenty of other places in NYC that serve comparable food with better service and better less expensive "mixology" drinks."

  • "Food was poor quality considering the reputation. Wouldn't go back..."

  • "When the service here is good it's fabulous! Unfortunately it's very inconsistent! I have had great service here. Average service. Then I have had horrible service here. I really hope they get their act together and pay attention to the servers they hire. My friends and I love this place when it's good, it's great!"

  • "Service was alright, not great. Food was somewhat cold. Nothing too impressive."

  • "The ambiance was great, but the food was nothing special."

  • "Got a travel zoo voucher here for two apps, a pizza to share, two entrees and two glasses of wine. The mussels were under seasoned, the pizza was just alright, and both the branzino and salmon were bland and boring. It was a lot of food for a good price, but will not be returning to eat. When it gets warmer I'm open to going for a drink outside, but probably won't be eating anything."

  • "I've always passed this place and finally decided to pop in last minute for dinner with my sister. We got a table immediately and sat on the back patio. There was fun outdoor decor and heat lamps for warmth. We got an appetizer and a flatbread to share and it was delicious (and reasonably priced)! Service was a little slow in the beginning but picked up after our appetizer was delivered. Overall, our waiter was nice, staff was friendly and food was great- I definitely recommend!"

  • "Very tasty food & cool atmosphere. Really liked the thin crust quattro stagione pizza, made in the woodburning oven, as well as the mussels & branzino stuffed with fresh herbs & lemon slices with a generous portion of broccoli rabe."

  • "My wife, mother, older family friend, and I had a great brunch at La Bottega. Previously, I'd been to the bar for late night pool playing but this was my first meal. The cinnamon french toast with fruit, pecans, and maple syrup was delicious, tho oversized. We didn't realize when ordering that banana bread is offered on the table, which made the french toast order a bit redundant. The granola, fruit and yogurt was excellent, although the serving was absurdly oversized. The frittata was excellent. Toast had to be ordered separately. Coffee was good. Service was reasonably attentive, although we had to ask for coffee refills the couple of times that we needed it. The restaurant has an outdoor area that is probably great in the summer."

  • "This is our third or fourth time back to this restaurant. the food is delicious and plentiful in a European-type, warm environment. There is plenty of seating and it is easy for conversation. A neighborhood gem! Plenty of outside seating when the weather allows."

  • "La Bottega has excellent food but apparently not enough tables. We were relegated to the terrace which was screened in with plastic. This meant a dark atmosphere, outdoor seating, and being broiled by a heat lamp. Service was very slow. The customers next to us had a dog-- cute but illegal."

  • "My own fault for not making a Valentine's Day reservation early enough so took a chance on a restaurant that had availability and was in a neighborhood I liked. The food was very ordinary. My boyfriend's steak was "good," but the pork chop I ordered was not and the side dish was very salty. The atmosphere OK. If I did not live in Manhattan with many extraordinary places to dine, it may have not seemed so bad. Sorry La Bottega."

  • "It was the first night my husband and I went out since our baby was born 2 months ago. The 3 of us and a friend shared 2 full special pre fixe dinners and one other entree (grilled salmon) and everything was amazing. Fresh, full of flavor, perfect portions and creative dishes. Gigi was attentive and helpful and the scene was lively but not too loud. Will definitely be going back!"

  • "Overall good report on the restaurant itself. Friendly staff, good service, good food, reasonable prices. Only issue was an extremely loud table of 4 next to us shouting, guffawing and cackling while dining. Can't blame that on the restaurant but you have to wonder about people's sense of civility."

  • "this was our second visit to la bottega. the food was plentiful and delicious. best of all, we could hear each other talk throughout dinner. We started with cocktails at the bar and the bartenders were great- very attentive and fun."

  • "Loved this place, and will definitely return. The heated outdoor garden seating is beautiful, as well, but it was quite snowy the evening we were there, so we ate inside. Amazing gnocchi and steak! Our server (and all of the staff) were very informative and friendly. The pizza was also wonderful. I think anything you order here will be excellent."

  • "We went on the internet special deal which included for under $60 for a couple: 2 glasses of wine, a pizza, and for each, a salad or appetizer and an entree......really too much food for one meal! The wood-oven cooked the pizza that included wild mushrooms and meat was excellent (although another couple said the pizza that featured whole wheat crust was not crisp). The appetizers were really the best course...one of us loved the salmon tartare with avocado, the other was very pleased with the steamed mussels. The only slightly weak part of the meal was the entree section.......I had the saltumbucco (spelling?) which was strangely mustardy/salty, and a bit tough.....the wife had the branzzino which she called a bit dry and undistinguished."

  • "I've been here for a date, and also for dinner with a friend. I really enjoyed the diversity and the quality of the food on both occasions. The service was excellent as well - the staff was super attentive. I will definitely be going back and encouraging my friends to check out their cuisine and atmosphere. The place is perfect for either dinner with a friend, or with a group of friends, and equally as nice for a romantic date. I look forward to checking out this place in the summer time for dining under the stars as well."

  • "This restaurant is beautiful, with the option to eat on their heated patio. All of the food we had was good, from the complimentary bread to my amazing pizza with prosciutto. The apple tart with cinnamon gelato was delicious, just a pinch of cinnamon. It was great and friendly service, quiet enough so you could hear each other, and affordable. I definitely will be coming back!"

  • "We ate at La Bottega, the restaurant in the Maritime Hotel, on 16th and 9th avenue -- a stone's throw from the High Line. We got a great travelzoo deal --- excellent pizza (we got the wild mushroom), fresh quinoa and kale salads, then striped bass special and branzino ---- throw in 2 glasses of wine -- all for $59 -- and it was quite a good deal. Service and ambiance was fine. They do have a glassed in terrace that is heated --- probably delightful in the summer. Food was all very tasty and well prepared. After, we strolled into the Maritime Hotel lobby and sat by the fire --- wonderful end to an excellent meal on a cold wintry night in NYC. we will return!"

  • "Went here after a year of purchasing a Travel Zoo voucher that I never used. Not my type of place. Hostess and waitress were borderline rude. Food was OK and over priced for me. No plans to return. They did accept my voucher and so I was happy."

  • "I can't believe there's a smoking section. Even though its in the outdoor seating area, their outdoor seating area isn't all that "open", and I was getting so much smoke I wanted to hurry up and leave. Also the service was slower than you can tolerate. We didn't get their signature banana bread (one of the reasons why we used to love it there) till after we were completely done with our meal. Used to go there often but this one may just be the last time. They really need to train their wait staff,, and also consider to move the smoking area to the end, not right in the middle of the outdoor seating area. It's 2013 & it's NYC. We don't like smelling the cigarette while we are eating anymore."
