Diner Reviews
  • "I made a reservation last week for La Bota, and had been there before a few months prior. However, when I arrived the restaurant was clearly closed. I ended up going to a restaurant nearby and the waitstaff confirmed the restaurant recently closed. I was extremely disappointed as I really loved La Bota when I went there previously."

  • "You can do so much better for the money in the West Village. The service is great- really attentive, everyone was nice and funny and the servers and manager made being there fun. The space (at the front of the restaurant) is nice- lots of brick and beam, it's a handsome space. The radio was on really loudly when we were there, though- top 40 pop music interspersed with ads- which really ruined the atmosphere. The food was really bad- the patatas bravas were just homefries with ketchup and mayonaise. The croquettes were tiny little things with little flavor. The calamari was undercooked, and the shrimp were over. We had a nice bottle of wine, but at $45 you can get that a lot of places. Lackluster at best, and very poor for the neighborhood."

  • "A hidden gem with great tapas and SO easy to get a last minute reservation. "

  • "Reservation for 17 people, restaurant closed day of our reservation. No one contacted us, I found out because one of my guest was at the restaurant an hour before our reservation time. I called the day before but got a recording stating business hours and location. How was our reservation confirmed? "

  • "Food was simple yet very tasty, and the staff was friendly. We followed other reviewers' suggestions and ordered cava sangria instead of white or red, and it was good. However, other cocktails such as gin and tonic and mojito were very weak and don't taste much of alcohol. It was a pleasant dining experience until a big group came in and getting noisy. I will go back again, but I hope they will improve their cocktails."

  • "The paella and sangria are a great combo. The food is authentic and delicious. The manager walks around with a wine sack from Spain, showing guests how to use it. Very hospitable staff and fun for a group. It is definitely not the fanciest of restaurants, but the atmosphere is good, food and service are good, and there is room for big groups."

  • "General: I had my birthday dinner here for a party of 12. The ambiance was great and we all enjoyed our time there. Food: We ordered at least one of each of the tapas and they were all excellent. My favorites were the octopus & the tortilla. The menu online versus the one when we got there were slightly different. We also tried 3 different paellas which were good as well. Service: The only complaint I had is the wait staff was stretched a little thing. It was difficult at times to flag him down to order more food and drinks. Manny, the owner or manager, was awesome. My gf had made a special arrangement to bring in outside dessert they were very accommodating. Manny personally came over to check on us several times."

  • "Service was horrible. This restaurant could have made so much more money off my friend and I. We had to get up to look for our waiter to order food, and twice for drinks. I was embarrassed bringing a friend here from out of town. Would never go back."

  • "We were looking for a tapas place in Greenwich village and booked here last minute. The service was perfect, but the food was just ok. Sangria could be better."

  • "I found this place last minute through open table for a day of reservation of 9 people for 5:30pm on a Saturday night. It was pretty quiet in the restaurant, but I blame that on it being 5:30pm. Food was excellent. The only concern I had before going was that a lot of yelp reviewers were saying that the paella had seafood put on top and not cooked into it. I must say that this is not true for my experience and the paella was really good. The Sangria was light, but if you want the stronger sangria (a recommendation from my waiter) to get the Cava Sangria. I guess they liked us for the dinner, and gave us all a free shot after we finished our meal. Very friendly staff. Would definitely come back!"

  • "The sangria was pretty yummy and between my friend and I we managed to order 3 pitchers. The food was ok, but nothing special compared to other Tapas places. Overall the place was average."

  • "Very friendly waiter, but the sangria was watered down and the mojitos were poorly made. The restaurant looks a lot bigger in pictures on the facebook page. Great patatas bravas."

  • "We went here for a friend's birthday. She really wanted tapas. The food was fine, nothing special. The sangria was pretty good. The service wasn't great. It took forever to order and get our check. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but wouldn't say no if my friend had a party there again."

  • "They didn't have many of the ingredients, so the selection of the menu was very limiting because of that reason. The food was just ok.. i was very disappointed with my experience there.."

  • "basic but perfectly prepared spanish tapas. nothing super fancy but oh-so-good. great place to catch up with a friend for a few hours over a simple and delicious meal and a few glasses of wine. ambience is quiet and relaxed, and the waitress had the perfect blend of being available and attentive without making us feel crowded or rushed in the slightest. this will be a regular spot for sure."

  • "We went with another couple and really enjoyed sitting in the back "garden" sipping sangria and trying tapas. Everything we ordered was good and we especially enjoyed the fried potatoes - we got two! We would definitely go back."

  • "My two friends and I started at the bar waiting for the rest of our party, and the drinks were really well made with good quality alcohol at standard NY prices. We then dined in there back 'garden' which is more of a semi-enclosed patio. The food itself was delicious and they have most of the Spanish Classics. This was my first time getting tapas since returning from Spain, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was well priced. The one weak spot was the Sangria, didn't have enough fruit and too much ice so that it got watered down."

  • "The good was excellent, it wasn't crowded or noisy and my family and I enjoyed ourselves immensely. I recommend trying it!"

  • "I love sangria and paella so I've probably had it everywhere I've seen and it on the menu. Sangria was very watered down/ iced down but wasn't bad for the first unadulterated pour. Paella was overcooked and it looked like the meat/shellfish was out of a can and had been thrown on top of the rice after the rice was cooked. It was also quite bland. Service was extremely slow and forgot multiple drink orders. Skip this place if you're coming for the paella. The tapas we got were unremarkable but not terrible. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but unfortunately I wouldn't risk how much I paid to give them a second shot."

  • "They had such an assortment of traditional Spanish tapas, which were all so delicious. We suggested that the waiter select favorite tapas and he did an excellent job!"

  • "Patatas Bravas is a must have, and the bacon-wrapped figs are also delicious. We were told the sangria was a highlight, and though I didn't have any, everyone else at the table did; they all said it was great, and polished off a pitcher + 2 additional glasses. There were 6 of us at La Bota for a birthday dinner. It had come highly recommended, and we were not disappointed. The server was both friendly and attentive, despite being the only server for all of the tables. The atmosphere was cozy and rustic. We weren't sure exactly how much to order, but our server helped and was accurate. Considering the drinks, I thought the price was very reasonable. If you're wandering around the West Village hungry, I would suggest trying La Bot"

  • "La Bota is a cozy and quaint tapas and wine bar. Very cute, dimly lite with excellent tapas and drinks. Neighborhood gem, good for groups. Has a back patio that is open to air in the summer, and in winter it is closed off. Would definately recommend."

  • "Great birthday celebration with excellent tapas and sangria at La Bota. Was really perfect from start to finish. Was here previously and the staff and kitchen built on a very good experience with an even better one."

  • "We had a large number of people for dinner, but they accompanied us perfectly, and the service was perfect! Location is good, atmosphere is great, and I strongly recommend this place!"

  • "Cozy neighborhood tapas spot run by authentic staff with true passion for the food. Great energy. Will definitely come back with a large group to try more of the food."

  • "Slow service and the food is a tad pricey for tapas. Good sangria."

  • "Unfortunately my experience at La Bota was less than par. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 tapas, and paella. After asking twice for the pitcher of sangria, we waited an hour before asking the manager where our food was. He apologized and said "the kitchen is new." Another ten minutes went by where I had to ask him to give us something to munch on because we were starving! After almost an hour and a half, our 3 tiny tapas came out. They were fine, nothing spectacular. Our paella finally came out, and just like the tapas, was nothing to write about. The manager was very apologetic, and after I suggested he comp us a pitcher of sangria, he did. He then gave us complimentary dessert. I probably won't be going back soon."

  • "Food was good, especially the paella. Portions were fairly generous. Atlhough we really enjoyed our meal, it was not as good as the food I had in Spain, though that could be expecting a bit much. Really liked the ambiance - cozy, nice lighting. Didn't have dessert b'cse we were too full. I think if we lived in the city/neighborhood, we'd frequent it on occassion."

  • "We ordered several tapas and two big dishes to share. What disappointed us is that the big dishes are small, not worthy 25 dollars. And the seafood in it is little, although the taste is good. We went for lunch on Sunday and we were the only customers."
    Dined on 12/23/2012
  • "The food was good even if some plates were too small even for tapas and too garlic in it. The service was terrible"

  • "Delicious tapas. The churros were phenomenal! Friendly staff, great atmosphere."
    Dined on 11/17/2012
  • "The food was overlooked, paltry and the menu had nothing really appetizing to offer a foodie. Mostly melted cheese over soggy vegetables or overlooked meat and paella. I was not impressed and will not return."
    Dined on 11/9/2012
  • "Went for tapas only Friday night. Food and service were very good, especially the pulpo. Wine was very limited, no crianza or reserva. Warm and inviting, nice atmosphere, loud. We'll return to try paella."
    Dined on 10/26/2012
  • "The place is cute, and the food was enjoyable, but my overall experience was negative due to the poor service and the fact that it was very hot inside. We were seated and not acknowledged again for a long time, until my boyfriend actually had to go ask someone for menus. The sangria was just ok, and once the food came we certainly enjoyed it, but were already feeling a little disgruntled!"

  • "It was ok, except in was very warm inside. They should turn on the AC when it's the middle of the summer. THe temperature in the room made the meal unpleasant."

  • "The staff at this restaurant was extremely friendly and patient as they explained dishes and waited for us to make up our minds. We were a group of 5 and the restaurant could handle our requests timely and with ease. The tapas and the setting made the evening quite fun . The bartender was very enjoyable to talk to. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was very good - we ordered a paella to share and a few tapas. The decor was very reminiscent of a tapas place we went to in Madrid, so I thought the ambiance was great. We were there relatively early for a NYC dinner so the place wasn't crowded and the waiter was attentive. We'll definitely be back."
    Dined on 7/7/2012
  • "The food was mediocre and the service was pretty lousy. When we received the wrong paella, the waiter shrugged his shoulder and said we should take it or it'd be another 40 minutes. Even though it was free of charge, it was not what I had wanted."
    Dined on 6/9/2012
  • "The atmosphere was quiet and romantic. The food was delicious except for our octopus which was overcooked and chewy and the paella which had all of its contents on top of it instead of inside of it. We highly recommend the Patitas Bravas and the Bacon wrapped Dates. The Sangria was a bit dry but it was sweetened upon request."
