La Boite en BoisWonderful eveningThis is a fantastic place to have dinner before a Lincoln Center (or other) concert/performance or even just on your own. Wonderful service! Fantastic food! We will go back any time.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy Romantic LunchI dined here with the love of my life before catching an afternoon NY Philharmonic performance at Lincoln Center. I started us off with a nice bottle of Sterling Vineyards Pinot Noir; for appetizers I chose Pate Maison and Warm Garlic Sausage over Lentils to share. For entrees I selected their Omelette with Mushrooms and Goat Cheese while she chose Veal Cutlets Milanese topped with Tricolor Salad. For dessert she devoured the Assorted Fruit Sorbet. A cup of Cappuccino and a glass of Cognac completed a very good meal. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. The restaurant is quite small but for lunch it wasn't packed so it was okay. The service was excellent and quick.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GoodThis tiny place is always crowded with West Siders who appreciate very good food6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM2 blocks from Lincoln Center2 blocks from Lincoln Center is this small French bistro style festaurant located below street level. The food offerings are centered around fish and the typical French offerings. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers of pâté and mushroom and ricotta stuffed ravioli in cognac sauce. The ravioli was offered as an appetizer or main course. i strongly recommend this dish. The veal and duck entrees did not disappoint. Several options for desert, but we were full so we opted for the mango and lime sorbet made on site. Attentive, courteous and efficient service. If French cuisine is appealing to you, strongly suggest it be given a try. House wine better than most and reasonably priced.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEver excellentA favorite spot for Pre-Theater dining, it also excels for later reservations. The food is only exceeded by the wonderful service, attentive but not intrusive. I now order duck nowhere else - it is always superb here and no other restaurant can compete.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLincoln Center StandoutHave eaten here several times when I was going to Lincoln Center. Tables are very close together. Prix fixe pre-theater menu is very good and servers are excellent at getting you to the show on time.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNew York GemExcellent service, wonderful food at very reasonable prices. What more could you ask for!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAn exciting "find" near LincolnAn exciting "find" near Lincoln Center--the restaurant has been there a long time, but this was my first visit. I loved the old New York style ambience, the food was great & well-priced, & the wait staff friendly & efficient. It is definitely on my list to re-visit!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been gong there forvoverHave been gong there forvover 20 years. They still maintain their high standards whereas other notable and more expensive restaurants now sedrve mediocre food. and are big disappointments.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful lunch by Lincoln CenterThis was a last minute lunch reservation after discovering that it would be pouring when we came out of Lincoln Center for a graduation. Quick walk into a tiny downstairs spot. Waitstaff could not have been more attentive. The place quickly filled to capacity but the noise level wasn't bad. Food was excellent! Can't wait to try them for dinner the next time we have tickets to Lincoln Center. A gem!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre theatre Lincoln centerLa boit has always been consistently good, warm, efficient with typical French bistro food. Pre theatre is prix fix but offers a good choice of meat, poultry, fish and vegetable dishes. The leeks and pâté are excellent. The lotte is fresh, perfectly cooked. The desserts, typically French. The wait staff is attentive to time and reminds you of your need to leave to catch the show. The restaurant is small, intimate and offers little privacy for private chats. It's a busy, happy, not stuffy spot.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dine here about 8 timesWe dine here about 8 times a year - do you think we'd keep coming back if it wasn't special?6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMvery nice pre theater menu, very nice pre theater menu, but a little expensive at $466/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the BestWe have been frequent visitors to this restaurant. It is simply an outstanding restaurant in every way.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Boite is better when not crowdedLast Sunday the restaurant was at its best. as the noise level was way down from Mother's Day with a full house.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will be back!We had tickets to Lincoln Center and so we went and had dinner here for the first time. We loved the neighborhood and the feel that this is a neighborhood restaurant that is well loved. The food was delicious and the overall experience reminded us of being in Paris again.
We will go back again when we are in NYC.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently wonderfulThis is my fourth visit to this restaurant over many years. Each time I go, I'm delighted first, by the food preparation and second, by the very family French environment. Not pretentious, just intimate French, as if you've stepped into a local find on your travels through the French countryside. Truly, the food is wonderful and the service timing is unrushed but observant. If I were in the neighborhood more often I would eat here more often.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant if very small,The restaurant if very small, and we had a table right by the door, but the food was very good as was the service.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBest value FrenchFor a $45 Prix-Fixe pre-theatre menu, you cannot go wrong with this tiny French restaurant near Lincoln Center that is always crowded, with reliable good food and fast service. Seating is extremely tight so go there for the food and not for a quiet conversation.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat value...theatre-goer friendlyGreat food. Great service...very fair price......definite if you're in the area. They insure you will make your concert/ performance....just mention it.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOld school at its bestHad a great dinner before going to the ballet this place is old school French but there is nothing wrong with that I. Had escargots, skate and chocolate mousse and all were on point. Attentive service and nice wines by the glass. Would go again in a heartbeat.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMwhen the cats away...We had been to this restaurant once before, for a pre-theater prix fixe meal. It was good for what it was, but very crowded with the tables right on top of each other. This time we were there early after an afternoon performance and when we got there the place was almost empty. I got the feeling that the manager was away, as the staff was awfully casual and seemed to be doing more conversing than serving. The food was fine - typical old-time French fair, no nouvelle cuisine here. A reasonable alternative for Lincoln Center.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! We absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was wonderful and the food was outstanding. I think the pate was the best I've ever had. I would recommend Boite en Bois to anyone!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic bistro, charming spaceVery good bistro with all the French classics, moderately priced, well-located near Lincoln Center. The space is tiny and charming, rough-hewn paneled walls decorated with old photos and small antique objects. To start we had a mixed seafood crepe and a plate of smoked salmon and trout - delicious and light. For entrees we had the duck (not as memorable) and monkfish (excellent). They offer a nice wine selection and attentive service. By arriving at 7:45, we missed the pre-theater rush and had a quiet, relaxing meal.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful jewel box of a restaurantMarvelous French cuisine - perfectly executed and served5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWith all the fancy restaurantsWith all the fancy restaurants opening around Lincoln Center, one tends to forget La Boite en Bois. Don't: the service is lovely, the "boite" is a little jewel box, and the food is Very French and quite delicious.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA little cramped but excellentA little cramped but excellent food and friendly service v5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-Concert DinnerI had been to this local favorite once before, and my second visit did not disappoint. We had a lovely waitress who was friendly and willing to speak French with me, and we had a superb meal. The dressing on the salad special was just right, and the fish was cooked to perfection. If you didn't know you were in the city, you'd think you we're tucked away in a little corner of the left bank. Can't wait to go back!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat LC neighborhood French placeWe've been going to La Boîte en Bois for more than 30 years. It's our favorite Lincoln Center neighborhood restaurant, used for special occasions and impromptu dining. Food and service are first-rate. The wine list including half-bottles is small, select and not too expensive. The place is small and table are close together - one steps down from sidewalk level. Nonetheless, ambiance is typically French and inviting. Reservations are strongly advised.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellentLove the place it take you to a small town of France5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur "go-to" place for 30 years. Our "go-to" place for 30 years. Wonderful food and outstanding service and they get you out in plenty of time for your performance.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA Fine ExperienceWe much enjoyed our dinner at La Boîte en Bois. The appetizer portions were large and beautifully presented. The mains were delicious. I was a bit annoyed to find that the prix fixe was mandatory until 7:30 as I do not usually eat dessert. However, this was clearly stated on the website and not a surprise. For the price, I think it would be gracious to include coffee.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgood pre-theatre choiceIt's tiny, and very busy - for good reason. The pre-theatre menu is a great deal for the Lincoln Center neighborhood, which can be quite pricey. Service is friendly, food tasty and well prepared. (I had the monkfish with saffron sauce.) Good selection of wines by the glass.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond VisitSuperb restaurant !! !!!!! great pre theatre Prix Fixe
Beautiful sauces, outstanding presentation, Wonderfully exciting and lively atmosphere
Will visit again when possible
From Arizona5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMusic loversIt is a great little spot for pre-Lincoln Center events. Far superior to anything else at that price in the area.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMJe t'aime La Boite en Bois! :)Service is always attentive and friendly. Food is always delicious!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal and cozy, warmGreat meal and cozy, warm ambience. Service was friendly and attentive on a busy night pre-theatre.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this restauant. ExcellentWe love this restauant. Excellent french bistro style cuisine. Very small and initimate. Good wine selection . Everything is reasonably priced. We love our server, Mrie. She makes us feel like we are coming to dinner in someone's private home.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought I was in Paris.La Boîte is a very charming restaurant serving traditional French fare. The tables are close together and there's not much room to circulate once you've been seated but it's cozy enough that you don't mind. The wait staff was very attentive ( they can't go very far away!) and the food was delicious. I will definitely go back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming place, wonderful staffIt's prix fixe only from 4:30 to 7:30 but there are enough choices to satisfy nearly everyone, and there are daily specials. The food is delicious; the waitstaff is outstanding, and the maitre d' is wonderful. Staff walks a fine line between not letting you sit too long with nothing and not rushing you, and they do it well. There are a lot of restaurants near Lincoln Center, and La Boite en Bois is the one we come back to the most.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit April 27, 2013First visit April 27, 2013 We were a group of 6 for a per-theater dinner. The restaurtant serves a prix fixe dinner with many choices. They make a great martini and have a very good wine list. The restaruant is small, busy and charming. The service was exceptional. I have eaten at many different restaurants in the Lincoln Center area and not only recommend La Boite en Bois but will most definitely return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely little neighborhoodLovely little neighborhood spot. Small and very busy pre-theater Saturday night. Very cosy. The talbes are very tightly packed. Had a terrific meal with friendly, fun wait staff.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWere We Back in Paris?Atfer looking at reviews and the menu, there was no doubt this ws the place to celebrate a belated birthday. It is small and we were amazed how the servers moved through tight spots never missing a beat. The food was excellent and thanks to a couple sitting next to us we tried a wonderful (new to us) bottle of red. We will return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother fine French mealWe've been to La Boite en Bois several times and the experience is consistently very good. The food, the variety of choices, the wine list and the service are always excellent. The seafood crepe, the soups and the peppered hangar steak are always our favorites. We took out of town friends on this visit (wine pros) and they were very pleased with the wine list. My only reservation is the very tight seating and the noise level. The tables are small and packed very close together.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time hereThis was my second time here and just as good as the first. Quaint, cozy, delicious French food and French staff make for an authentic-feeling experience. It's quite crowded with the pre-theatre crowd, but after 7 p.m. the place was nearly empty. Love the prix fixe menu and friendly atmosphere.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Pre-Show Experience!!!The restaurant was great! The Octapuss Salad was outstanding. (Best octapuss I have ever had!) The restaurant is very small, and it was understandably packed! Service was excellent. This is a great place to eat before anything at Lincoln Center...so convenient! All the food was prepared beautifully and I will be returning! The wine was very good and the price was quite reasonable.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! Small wine listExcellent! Small wine list but great wine at great prices. Food was superb.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Sunday brunch,Exceptional Sunday brunch, offering more than traditional breakfast foods (for those of us who want lunch, not brunch). Friendly staff, wonderful food, good value.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe 3-course prix-fix menu,The 3-course prix-fix menu, offering before 7:30pm, is of great value, and since the place is extremely small, the tables are very close together (almost touching). However, I kept coming back as the food has always been reliably good. My favorite is the roast duck with cranberry sauce.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBest NYC dining experience in yearsSuperb food, great friendly service, absolutely will return!
Magnifique!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
