La Boite en BoisA little cramped but excellentA little cramped but excellent food and friendly service v5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-Concert DinnerI had been to this local favorite once before, and my second visit did not disappoint. We had a lovely waitress who was friendly and willing to speak French with me, and we had a superb meal. The dressing on the salad special was just right, and the fish was cooked to perfection. If you didn't know you were in the city, you'd think you we're tucked away in a little corner of the left bank. Can't wait to go back!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat LC neighborhood French placeWe've been going to La Boîte en Bois for more than 30 years. It's our favorite Lincoln Center neighborhood restaurant, used for special occasions and impromptu dining. Food and service are first-rate. The wine list including half-bottles is small, select and not too expensive. The place is small and table are close together - one steps down from sidewalk level. Nonetheless, ambiance is typically French and inviting. Reservations are strongly advised.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Fine ExperienceWe much enjoyed our dinner at La Boîte en Bois. The appetizer portions were large and beautifully presented. The mains were delicious. I was a bit annoyed to find that the prix fixe was mandatory until 7:30 as I do not usually eat dessert. However, this was clearly stated on the website and not a surprise. For the price, I think it would be gracious to include coffee.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond VisitSuperb restaurant !! !!!!! great pre theatre Prix Fixe
Beautiful sauces, outstanding presentation, Wonderfully exciting and lively atmosphere
Will visit again when possible
From Arizona5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMusic loversIt is a great little spot for pre-Lincoln Center events. Far superior to anything else at that price in the area.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMJe t'aime La Boite en Bois! :)Service is always attentive and friendly. Food is always delicious!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal and cozy, warmGreat meal and cozy, warm ambience. Service was friendly and attentive on a busy night pre-theatre.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love this restauant. ExcellentWe love this restauant. Excellent french bistro style cuisine. Very small and initimate. Good wine selection . Everything is reasonably priced. We love our server, Mrie. She makes us feel like we are coming to dinner in someone's private home.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought I was in Paris.La Boîte is a very charming restaurant serving traditional French fare. The tables are close together and there's not much room to circulate once you've been seated but it's cozy enough that you don't mind. The wait staff was very attentive ( they can't go very far away!) and the food was delicious. I will definitely go back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming place, wonderful staffIt's prix fixe only from 4:30 to 7:30 but there are enough choices to satisfy nearly everyone, and there are daily specials. The food is delicious; the waitstaff is outstanding, and the maitre d' is wonderful. Staff walks a fine line between not letting you sit too long with nothing and not rushing you, and they do it well. There are a lot of restaurants near Lincoln Center, and La Boite en Bois is the one we come back to the most.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit April 27, 2013First visit April 27, 2013 We were a group of 6 for a per-theater dinner. The restaurtant serves a prix fixe dinner with many choices. They make a great martini and have a very good wine list. The restaruant is small, busy and charming. The service was exceptional. I have eaten at many different restaurants in the Lincoln Center area and not only recommend La Boite en Bois but will most definitely return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely little neighborhoodLovely little neighborhood spot. Small and very busy pre-theater Saturday night. Very cosy. The talbes are very tightly packed. Had a terrific meal with friendly, fun wait staff.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWere We Back in Paris?Atfer looking at reviews and the menu, there was no doubt this ws the place to celebrate a belated birthday. It is small and we were amazed how the servers moved through tight spots never missing a beat. The food was excellent and thanks to a couple sitting next to us we tried a wonderful (new to us) bottle of red. We will return.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time hereThis was my second time here and just as good as the first. Quaint, cozy, delicious French food and French staff make for an authentic-feeling experience. It's quite crowded with the pre-theatre crowd, but after 7 p.m. the place was nearly empty. Love the prix fixe menu and friendly atmosphere.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Pre-Show Experience!!!The restaurant was great! The Octapuss Salad was outstanding. (Best octapuss I have ever had!) The restaurant is very small, and it was understandably packed! Service was excellent. This is a great place to eat before anything at Lincoln Center...so convenient! All the food was prepared beautifully and I will be returning! The wine was very good and the price was quite reasonable.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! Small wine listExcellent! Small wine list but great wine at great prices. Food was superb.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Sunday brunch,Exceptional Sunday brunch, offering more than traditional breakfast foods (for those of us who want lunch, not brunch). Friendly staff, wonderful food, good value.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBest NYC dining experience in yearsSuperb food, great friendly service, absolutely will return!
Magnifique!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all around. GreatExcellent all around. Great value in pre- theater prix fixe. The restaurant is small and if you do not like tight spaces could be a problem. Service was generally very good.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went pre-theater and alsoWe went pre-theater and also for my husband's birthday. The food is always delicious. I had the roasted duck and my husband the special striped bass. Both were perfect. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are back in Paris.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy this lovelyWe always enjoy this lovely Bistro. Warm, friendly and delicious.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to the BoiteWe have been to the Boite many times and it is always reliably good -- traditional French fare at a reasonable price with very friendly service. It is a small and sometimes cramped space, so pre-Lincoln Center times can be a struggle. But if you arrive after 7:45, even though the prix-fixe bargain no longer applies, it's great.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only problem is that theThe only problem is that the kitchen closes too early!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMJust like ParisVery tiny with tables packed close together - just like in Paris. Food is very good. Nice meal near Lincoln Center. Not outrageously priced like some other nearby French restaurants.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful, authentic FrenchThe food was excellent. I started with a beautiful pate, followed by roasted duck, and finishing with a medley of desserts. The only off note was the creme brulee, which was eggy and a little under-sweetened. Marie, our server, was a pleasure and added to the evening. I can recommend this restaurant is you are looking for authentic French bistro/fine dining, especially before the theater or opera. The food is more fine dining than bistro, but the atmosphere is more bistro. Also, I can't recommend the Chateauneuf-du-Pape on the wine list enough. My stars and garters that was a delicious wine.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHomier then your dining roomOur group of 11 received an outstanding service! Thank you very much.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic and delicious FrenchAuthentic and delicious French food...we felt we were in Paris. We loved it! We will most definitely return.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bread was terrible; everythingThe bread was terrible; everything else was very good.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThis tiny restaurant is tuckedThis tiny restaurant is tucked downstairs on a side street and is quite cozy. I was there for pre-theater dinner and the menu was comprehensive. The food was fresh and delicious; the staff helpful, attentive, and friendly. The escargots were exactly as i remember from a Paris experience and the gorgonzola salad was delicious. The salmon was very good as was the shrimp and scallops dish but neither was an unusual experience.had a cranberry sorbet for dessert that was out of this world! (made on premises.) the restaurant can be noisy and you will bump elbows with the neighboring table but i highly recommend. I will go back to try the regular menu.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food in a tiny NewWonderful food in a tiny New York spot close to Lincoln Center. It was absolutely packed for a pre-opera dinner (don't go for privacy), but it's so small that I imagine it's always packed! Truly good food at a reasonable price (remember this is New York).4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA reliable French Bistro withA reliable French Bistro with typical Bistro ambiance, menu and service. Great Pre-theater offerings ( only pre fixe is available during pre-theater service).4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a favorite dinner spotAlways a favorite dinner spot when we visit New York City before a concert or an opera. We were warmly greeted by the staff and seated promptly. The pre-theater menu plus the specials will satisfy the most discriminating diners. Consistently tasty and high quality food make the experience very pleasant and satisfying.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA true French restaurant.A true French restaurant. Our server spoke with a French accent, contributed to the ambiance. the food was excellent and authentically French. A real gem!
I highly recommend to any Francophile.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA Lincoln Center area mainstayA Lincoln Center area mainstay for many years. Prices are very reasonable considering the top quality of the food.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was only my second timeThis was only my second time for lunch in 20 years, though I've been here for dinner many times. Looking forward to going back for dinner the next time.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent French CuisineFor persnickety foodies, this is a gem. If one is concerned with food allergies or sensitivities, one must alert the chef, the waitress and all staff. The atmosphere is european, the people are dedicated for the classic country french cuisine with excellent service and hospitality.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a very consistentlyThis is a very consistently good French. Their "mandatory" prix fixe" during the pre-Lincoln Center hours is a good deal with a full menu of varied choices and excellent service.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect meal with attentiveA perfect meal with attentive service. Had to ask for the check five times which made us late for a show....we watched as the waiter gave others their checks, then asked once again, the ruin of the dinner experience is when the same waiter changed the linens on the adjacent table and still did not produce our check....late for the opera makes you all the more angry. Could have been a great experience.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways greatWonderful food and an attentive staff add up to a great dining experience.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis remains a top-notch restaurantThis remains a top-notch restaurant, very good value for money, in a neighborhood where many other restaurants are trading on their buzz or their reputation. The food is superb, the portions ample without becoming a challenge, the wines excellent. I look forward to dining here again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a pre-theater dinner.Great for a pre-theater dinner. Staff very professional, but friendly.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorite placesOne of our favorite places in New York for about 30 years! The food is always outstanding. Our server was terrific, and she threw in some free French lessons. We try to dine there at least once a year when in New York for the opera.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMarea A Fantastic WaitressSpeaking for the four people in attendance, this had to be one of the most inviting places we have eaten. The reason is quite simple: we had the most charming, helpful, effervescent waitress who truly enjoys her job making our luncheon truly a delightful experience. We all stated that the restaurant is indebted to her for the wonderful job she does.
She deserves a triple A+++ for her charm.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service consistentlyFood and service consistently good as we go to La Boite en Bois fairly often. Location is very convenient to Lincoln Ctr.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this restaurant, haveI love this restaurant, have been going there for years, have brought different friends there, and delight in going there by myself too ... food delicious, adroitly prepared, feel beautiful treated by staff and host, lovely decor and music ... wonderful getaway in Manhattan.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went there before a anWe went there before a an evening of theater at Lincoln Center and were not disappointed.
