A word from La Boca
Opened in 2006 by Chef/Owner James Campbell Caruso (three-time James Beard Award Nominee), La Boca is an intimate Spanish tapas restaurant in the heart of downtown Santa Fe. Influenced by his travels in Spain, Chef James cultivates synergies of authentic Spanish ingredients to create dishes both traditional and modern. Dishes such as thinly sliced tuna drizzled with blood orange aioli and topped with kalamata olives and smoked sea salt create a constellation of different flavors in every bite.

With the feel of a lively European wine bar, La Boca also features an extensive selection of carefully chosen mediterranean and South American wines. Knowledgeable and animated staff graciously guide customers to the perfect wine or sherry to complement their meals.

La Boca is a proud participant in the Santa Fe Farm to Restaurant program.

Please note: Because seating at La Boca is limited, reservations for parties over 4 must contact the restaurant

  • "Chose this restaurant based upon a recommendation from a friend. Good choice! Some of the best tapas I have had outside of Barcelona, Spain."

  • "As usual, we had an absolutely stellar dinner. Try everything; it's all fantastic. Be brave and try the morcilla (blood sausage) and shrimp tacos. The flank steak with cabrelas butter or sea salt caramel sauce is my go to dish. The paella is a standout. And the grilled artichokes are absolutely the best artichokes I've ever had. And for a real treat, try the pedro jimenez desert sherry; you won't be sorry!!"

  • "Our first time. Had finished a lovely soak at Ten Thousand Waves and wanted something light and a glass of wine. We choose green olives, a dip trio w/ grilled pita bread and a smokey paprika pork kabob. Perfectly prepared and paired with excellent wine and sherry. Our server was gracious and attentive. We happened on their "Happiness Hour" from 3-5 pm with some half price tapas and wine / sherry specials. They were solidly booked for dinners so this is obviously a popular and well respected restaurant. Anxious to return."

  • "nice place, smallish, tables close together. Food was great. Love all the various taps, wine recommendation was good. Can recommend. Serviuce was very good and profecional. Enjoyed ourselves. Next night tried there sister restaurant which is a little down scale. Stick with this one if you are older, the other one if you are younger."

  • "A great place to have a wonderful meal. Service was fantastic. It makes you feel like you are in Barcelona. Everything we ate was fantastic: tuna, mussels, salmon, olives, and a sausage dish. We asked our server her favorites and went from there. When we returned home to Austin we met a couple that live in Santa Fe and they agreed the best meal in Santa Fe."

  • "Loved La Boca. My husband and I have been looking for a unique restaurant to take out of town guests and just for ourselves. I think we found it! Excellent food and service."

  • "First time eating tapas. Food was good but a bit expensive."

  • "Wonderful selection of tapas, grilled artichokes and Ahi tuna should not be missed if on the menu. Service was excellent and properly attentive. Only complaint, the tables are jammed next to one another. If you don't like dining in VERY close proximity to the tables either side of you, skip La Boca."

  • "We really enjoyed our evening at La Boca. The grilled artichokes and flatiron steak with caramel sauce were particularly good. I had the red sangria and my sister had a flight of sherries - just a lovely evening."

  • "Our first visit to La Boca was a definite success. Interesting tapas choices dominate the menu.Seafood was on our minds and plates. We had scallops, a squid ink pasta dish and then settled in for paella. Sharing two tapas and one serving of paella was a full meal for two. The service was great and our waiter was well versed in the menu and wine list. The wine list, especially the sherry offerings are good, but be prepared to spend some money. There are few if any offerings under the $12-15 a glass range. La Boca is tiny and its really too crowded, even on a Sunday night. And its noisy. I'd choose La Boca for a meal with a friend rather than a romantic dinner."

  • "The food! Amazing! The seating, well.... A little close for comfort. I understand it is a small space, and trying to get as many tables in there as possible, but I was closer to the diner next to me than I was to my companion! That being said, the food truly is amazing. I highly recommend the tapas trio and the cheeses (you can try one for $10, or all four for $14). I have experienced La Boca twice, and will certainly be back."

  • "We went to La Boca with our 2 boys (18, 15) who thought they wouldn't find anything they liked. They LOVED the garlic shrimp tapas and steak they ordered. My husband had the paella and I had the croquetas. Everything was delicious including the sangria and the pots de creme we had for dessert. Our server was excellent as well."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner that La Boca- it is very popular and was recommended to us by several people. We ordered 9 tapas for the four of us. We ordered the cheese plate which consisted of 4 different cheeses, the hummus, chorizo with potatoes and egg, sardines, patatos bravas, olives, chicken kabob and two beef dishes which were fantastic. The beef dishes we ordered were the skirt steak with caramel sauce and the braised short ribs- they were really outstanding. We also ordered the red Sangria which was really delicious. For dessert we had the flan/custard, wedding cookies and the almond cake. These too were great. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "At a recent lunch the food was ok - not as good as on previous visits. The restaurant was crowded and the service suffered accordingly. The tables were so close together that the wait staff constantly bumped into my chair. It was very uncomfortable."

  • "One less table would kill you ? Even the wait staff couldn't get around. The good Food and great service coupled with reasonable prices and inspired wine list Couldn't overcome the to tight quarters. Try the Taberna. Especially at bar. Same People better space"

  • "Although the menu was advertised as a tapas tasting menu, the portions were enormous. Each separate plate could have been a full dinner. The only real issue was the service--wine pairing often followed the dish they were paired with by long minutes, instead of being served simultaneously."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful experience at La Boca. The staff was knowledgeable an very friendly. Our server offered a great wine recommendation and suggestions on how much and what types of tappas we might enjoy. He was right-on on all counts. It was a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended!!"

  • "Done in a proper Spanish style Tapas setting; close tables, maximized open air space, and a wide array priced wine list and some of the most unique tapas I have had. Our waitress was adorable and guided us through some of her personal favorites combined with top sellers. The light tempura smoked salmon wrapped asparagus was light, delicious and unique. However, the carnivore in me found probably the most unique paring of savory and sweet I have ever had; smoked sea salted caramel sauce over thin sliced aged hanger steak. Are you kidding me? Hands down best dish I had all weekend. Reservations are tight except for last seatings on the same day, so make them a day or two in advance for weekends."

  • "Great ambience in a small dining area. Three tapas per person were just right for us and all were nicely presented. If you desire a light meal and are not in a rush for time, this is a perfect dining spot. Wait staff were attentive but also allowed enough space for us to engage in conversation and enjoy our meal."

  • "Enjoyed our evening at Boca. We were seated promptly on arrival. Service was attentive and the server was knowledgable and helpful in making tapa selections. Portions appeared small but when added together we were full. We had five tapas to share and each dish was delicious. The duck carpaccio and chicken/jamon/fig with cheese fondue were particular standouts. It is a smaller restaurant but I liked that we had a nice sized table even though we were only two people. We especially enjoyed the musician/singer who performed that evening. Her voice was so soulful as she sang a variety of music in Spanish. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for both its food and entertainment."

  • "We love La Boca and choose the restaurant for most of our "special occasion" dinners. The food, wine and service met our usual expectations from Chef Caruso's restaurant with the exception of two mishaps. One we chose to have corrected, the other we let slide. Our server was less than attentive. I had to ask for a second glass of wine and wait until that was served before continuing my meal. That resolved the issue of service. The second issue was our "entres". They were served just warm and a bit too soon since I hadn't finished my salad course. Thus, my flat iron steak was cool. I could have returned it, but it seemed a relative non-issue considering the wonderful time we were having...still love La Boca!"

  • "We had a chance last week to dine at La Boca. Nice decor. Nice and helpful staff. Good wine list to choose from for a glass or bottle. Server made a couple of entree recommendations that were great. All our plates were excellent. We will go back."

  • "This was my 2nd visit to this Santa Fe gem and I loved it just as much as my first visit. The food and wine is terrific. The specials are worth trying. The wait staff is knowledgable. Our waiter was particularly helpful with wine pairing suggestions. La Boca is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. Be sure to make reservations as I'm no the only diner that loves this place. It is small and fills up quickly."

  • "Creative tapas while maintaining Spanish authenticity. Great list of Spanish wines by the glass plus an impressive selection of Sherries. All of this comes at a rather high price, though. You pay for the quality and creativity. Good value if you really appreciate the results. Very small tables are slightly annoying, as tapas dishes are larger than you'd get in Spain."

  • "Outstanding Sherry menu. Wonderful live classical/ flamenco guitar playing at just the right volume to permit conversation. Outstanding and authentic Spanish Tapas. A must try-- grilled baby artichokes with manchengo. The mussels in wine/ pesto broth with chorizo and roasted garlic was to die for, but was a special that may not be on the menu every nite.."

  • "La Boca takes us back to Spain with authentic tapas and creative versions of old world favorites. Croquettas and sangria are taken to a whole new level here!"

  • "How could it get any better! The only answer is to add the lamb kafta to the regular menu. As a local, I find it harder and harder to get a good meal, much less a great one, at any price in Santa Fe. LaBoca never fails. The food is consistently exception in ingredients, preparation and presentation. Thank you Chef James for such a local treasure. And please add the lamb meatballs back to the menu! We miss them on a regular basis! And lastly, thanks for being on Open Table. It's the only way I make restaurant reservations due to a hectic schedule and much travel."

  • "La Boca got us in at the last minute. The food was fantastic. The service was incredible. Went with recommendations of server, and were very happy with portions and wine choices. Love it when the server knows there product and can make great recommendations. We got to La Boca early, and they did everything to make us feel comfortable, even getting my mother inlaw a glass of wine while we waited."
