A word from La Boca
Opened in 2006 by Chef/Owner James Campbell Caruso (three-time James Beard Award Nominee), La Boca is an intimate Spanish tapas restaurant in the heart of downtown Santa Fe. Influenced by his travels in Spain, Chef James cultivates synergies of authentic Spanish ingredients to create dishes both traditional and modern. Dishes such as thinly sliced tuna drizzled with blood orange aioli and topped with kalamata olives and smoked sea salt create a constellation of different flavors in every bite.

With the feel of a lively European wine bar, La Boca also features an extensive selection of carefully chosen mediterranean and South American wines. Knowledgeable and animated staff graciously guide customers to the perfect wine or sherry to complement their meals.

La Boca is a proud participant in the Santa Fe Farm to Restaurant program.

Please note: Because seating at La Boca is limited, reservations for parties over 4 must contact the restaurant

Good restaurant. Very good staff, however, did feel a bit rushed. Table was small... I could not move once I was squeezed in. We both had Paealla. It was very well done.

The venue is small, over crowded and noisy, the tables are so close together that I felt I was in the school cafeteria. Waiter took hubby's wine order and whisked away the wine list, never even asked if I wanted wine. Hubby wine arrived promptly, I asked for the wine list, placed order and then waited 20 minutes for the glass. Didn't feel like they were interested in me at all. Food ordinary, other tapas places in town are better. If you like being cuddled up to other diners, noise, so so food and indifferent service then you might like La Boca. Perhaps the attached Taberna is better.

Tapas were very well prepared, original, and well displayed, but don't go too hungry. Tapas are small plates so don't expect to get very large portions. Wines were very good, as well.

but really I was shocked how much I paid for so little food. A plate of five cubes of watermelon and cantaloupe (each) with crunchy serrano on it under some feta and olives for $12, $15 when you add the 3 tiny pieces of dried burnt flavorless chicken on a stick that I mistakenly added with it. Very disappointing. And what was with the reggae music at a Spanish tapas restaurant?! The place, like the food, was confusing and all-over-the-place. Will not be returning.

The best tapas i have eaten, served by a knowledgeable and congenial waiter in a close but convivial atmosphere. Great wine list. Delicious flan and port for dessert. An all-around pleasure as long as you don't mind being in close quarters. i also should add that the cost is very reasonable, especially when compared to some other high-end Santa Fe restaurants.

We were very pleased with our experience at La Boca. They serve a tapas menu which is very tastefully done, very fresh, very good flavors. When we go to a tapas restaurant we ask the wait person to take over choices. Maria did a superb job. Perfect blend of flavors, amount and textures. Price was upper mid range but for our special occasion we were pleased. I would not recommend if you want an quiet romantic atmosphere.

We had dinner. A bit noisy for a small place, we've been in the separate cantina which is a bit better. The food is excellent, although you have to try and see what's to your taste. For example I liked the blood sausage, my wife not. It came in a delicious, dark sauce with dates and a small piece of grilled pineapple. The fideos negros, made with squid ink, and served with shrimp and mussels were very good, get extra bread to sop up the broth. A spicy shrimp and garlic were very spicy, too much so for my wife and she normally eats pretty spicy. So we added the beet salad with goat cheese and greens. Glad we did as that was another highlight dish. Will be back again, although will hit the cantina next time

Delicious! This was our 4th trip to this bustling small plate restaurant. We visited on a Friday evening. Our favs: grilled artichokes with feta; ensalada de betabeles; brussels sprouts. Ate dinner here twice on a recent two week visit to Santa Fe. Small, high energy, small plates Spanish restaurant with good food and an excellent wine list. Crab and tomato salad, grilled artichokes, rabbit sausage, and a generously sized small paella were all well done. The food in general was okay and the service was good. We ordered the tapas trio, the ensalada de betabeles, the brussel sprouts, and the kale salad with chickpeas. The beet salad was especially good, with nicely cooked beet slices sandwiching a mild goat cheese. My major complaint was the over-frying and over-salting. The brussel sprouts were very fried and salty, as were the chickpeas in the kale salad. The flatbread slices that came with the tapas trio were also fried and overly salty.

Our dinner at La Boca was incredible from the recommended glass of wine to start through the entire meal. Each course was better than the prior one! My husband and I dined on a Friday night on the early side, so the place wasn't quite full yet which made the ambiance very quiet and romantic. Our server perfectly timed everything, and every dish was perfect - including the absolutely delicious bread with olive oil. The kale salad with the fried garbanzos, garlic and lemon vinaigrette was delicious, as was every dish that we ordered. We will be going back and make every effort to save room for dessert!

We arrived before our reserved time but were promptly seated in the small but charming dining area. The staff was attentive and the waiter was very helpful as this was our first experience at La Boca. The seating was close, which is not so bad as it allows you to view the food at the next table and hear their review of it - definitely intimate. I recommend arriving early or making reservations for an earlier time because there was a line waiting by the time we were ready to leave.

We were visiting Santa Fe and a friend who visited last month told us that we had to go to La Boca. We made reservations (which is key) but showed up 20 minutes early. The host apologized that he did not have a table ready yet and the bar area was full. Instead, of having us wait outside, he went across the street to another restaurant and set it up so that we could have a table and some wine at this restaurant while we waited. When our table was ready, he came across the street to get us. What excellent service! The food at La Boca was superb. We are from Chicago and have eaten at excellent tapas places before but La Boca's variety and tastiness was far superior. We wish La Boca would come North to the Windy City.

We were able to order seafood paella, which is not on the menu (traditional paella is on the menu). It arrived with shrimp, mussels and calamari. The seafood was perfectly cooked and the rice had a smoky flavor which we loved. I had asked if we could be seated in a quieter area, and even though the restaurant is only one room, they tried as best they could to accommodate us, which I greatly appreciate. Service was excellent. A wonderful experience, highly recommended.

La Boca more than met our needs and expectations, most particularly by way of the service. There seemed to be a slight shortage of servers (like, maybe down one?) but each server seemed to step in to cover the needs of a table no matter what. That rates very highly in my book (not yet written!). I especially enjoyed the flight of Spanish wines, which I am just learning about but enjoy tremendously. Our server was knowledgeable, and eager to please. I even got to take pictures of the labels for later reference. Highly recommended.
