We had a wonderful meal - a very interesting menu and all of it delicious! I love the laid back neighborhood places where things aren't fussy and the focus is on the meal. La Bete is a fabulous find.

A mixed experience. The service was top notch and the restaurant clearly uses quality ingredients, but some of the preparations were not up to snuff. The charcuterie plate was fantastic. The pork shoulder was good but not as tender as similar dishes I've had. The Mad Hatcher chicken dish was the biggest disappointment; it was reminiscent of a tangine, except that it was entirely bland. Also, the overall experience was diminished somewhat by smell of smoke/grease from the kitchen.

Really good food and great ambience. Happy hour until 6:30pm, good service. Love this gem of a restaurant. Leave time to find a parking spot. Capitol Hill is challenging but you eventually find something on the street for free.

We attended the Monday night Indian focus menu. The food and drinks were excellent. The service was friendly but slow and disorganized, and this was way past the dinner hour. We had to wait a long time at every juncture; the pacing was off, we didn't receive our last entree until very late, after we'd eaten everything and were full, we had to wait an eternity and physically grab the waiter to get our check at almost 10 pm, and felt generally like the waiter was carefully avoiding us when we were clearly in need of service. This took away from what otherwise could have been a truly excellent experience.

Loved how enthusiastic the staff was about the menu offerings. Very attentive service. Wonderful "sharing plates' concept. Food was so fresh, great flavors without being overpowering. Very charming setting with art work, lighting, unique tables. Try the sparking rose; divine!
