The veal dish was expertly cooked; very tender and flavorful. The curved booth seating was very comfortable; the cushion was great for back support. We had dinner on Mother's Day, and the restaurant was particularly crowded. In spite of the larger crowds, service was excellent. We ordered from the fixed price Mother's Day menu to sample "non regular" items, and were delighted with our choices. The Foie gras appetizer was absolutely amazing. It was well portioned and perfectly cooked. The escargot was also a stand out. If you try this, make sure you have ample bread for dippint the buttery garlicy broth. We both had the fillet, and both were cooked to our exact specifications, and expertly seasoned. They were the best oysters I have had in a long time--possibly ever. They were very fresh, large, plump, and well-chilled. They were prepared correctly--properly disconnected from both halves of the shell before reaching the table. They rested in the deep side of the shell with their liquor (juices). Delicious! Seriously, I would go back repeatedly just for the oysters. But the rest of our meal was wonderful, too. Tempura fried soft shell crab--not overcooked. They retained their light, juiciness while still having a crispy exterior. Service was very attentive but food was not as good as I remember it - not bad, just not as terrific as I expected. My lobster was chewy and the salad was uninspired. Husband's filet was excellent though. They provided a nice complimentary chocolate something for our anniversary and took our picture, but then neglected to give it to us at the end of the evening. The night we went it was roasted veal loin with wild mushrooms, which was excellent and a great value. Other courses were regularly priced, but a selection of wines was specially priced as well.
La Bergerie is always a special treat. Upon my arrival at the address, I almost missed the place because the sign was so small. But after a quick phone call they directed me and I was able to find the restaurant on the second floor of the building. It is very small and intimate with a cozy ambiance. My date had the pheasant and I had the rabbit with a nice bottle of wine to wash it down. The service was a little too spotty for my taste in the beginning but that may have been because the place was filling up. Other than that, I was a great experience. My wife had the La Bergerie salad and Black Angus steak with a strawberry tart for dessert. My son had the pate, crab cakes and profiterolles for dessert. I had the Scottish salmon, braised duck and Grand Marnier souffle. The service was prompt without making us feel rushed. The steak was done just right. The crab cake was moist and tasty. My braised duck had a lot of flavor and seemed to fall off the bone. Another wonderful meal at La Bergerie. La Bergerie is a good bet for reliably good meals, and especially French meals. It's one of the few places you can get an authentic (and delicious) Kir. I had been there 4 times. Food, service, ambiance, noise, and overall are fantastic and wonderful to keep us up. We had a blast time but I will be there again.
