  • "The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building containing retail space, which does not make for the best of "first impressions.". The interior space is nice but not as romantic as a expected. The food and service was average. The waiter staff was friendly but did not have a great knowledge of the wine or food( we had a four course meal with wine pairing). Overall, the experience did not match the cost."

  • "Six of us were in WDC and met for dinner at La Bergerie. Great food although service at times was nonexistent. It took an hour to get our bill after dessert, and then what arrived was not our bill. Glad it will be a business expense."

  • "Our group of 7 met here for a mini-reunion. The restaurant was a little hard to find - it's the second floor of a building without its own sign outside - so pay attention to the street address to find it. Our only disappointment was that we weren't hungry enough for more food. Everything we ordered was perfect. The bread was perfectly warmed. The French Onion Soup was the cheeziest I've ever had. Every dish was perfectly balanced. And the soufle was delightful (which made the bread pudding bland in comparison). If only you could order dishes off the 3 or 4 course menu as a-la-carte. I'm already planning to go back, this time with a larger appetite, to eat the lobster risotto on the 4 course menu. Absolutely recommend!"

  • "Lovely French restaurant with full service and a terrific little wine list. The list is smallish but impressive. The food is good, but not remarkable. Still, it is well worth the price, which is quite reasonable. We went in the middle of the week and were pleased with our experience. The atmosphere is sophisticated but not stuffy. The pace is measured but not too slow or fast. All in all, an enjoyable evening and we look forward to a return visit."

  • "Laurent, Several months ago our son Christopher gave us a gift card for LaBergerie. All I can say is that my wife and I should have used it a lot sooner. The dining experience was by far the best in our 46 years of marriage. Manuel gave us excellent service and he should be congratulated for thatt since part of the whole experience is the service provided. The chef should also be congratulated for the food preparation and presentation. Each facet of the meal, from appetiser to dessert was exceptionally great ! All in all, a job well done by all. Be very proud of LaBergerie.....it's a gem in Old Town Alexandria. Please post this note as a review if appropriate."

  • "About as close to perfection for a lunch as could be expected. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. The crab salad was not only a handsome presentation but very tasty. The venison scallopini was exceptional. This was a special birthday and the restaurant did a remarkable job in making the guest feel special."

  • "The food was very good but the service was not paced well. My husband had the wine pairing with his dinner. We ordered a cocktail first. The first wine was poured before we had finished our cocktails. The appetizers were delivered very quickly - almost too soon as we had not finished our cocktails and had a chance to relax. The second (entree course) wine was poured while we were still eating our appetizers, and had not finished the first wine or first course. There was then a very long wait for our main course - the wine that was paired with the main course was almost gone by the time the entrees had arrived since there was such a long wait. Dessert was served at the proper pace but souffles were undercooked on this night"

  • "A group of five celebrated a birthday that was noted on our reservation. The celebrant was surprised to receive a delicious special dessert. The waiter was extremely helpful with the menu choices as special diets had to be dealt with. The "original" Caesar salad was prepared flawlessly table side. Perfect!!! Each different entree was delicious, from the elk steak to the Parrot fish, Always a pleasant experience dining here as diners are never rushed, tables are well spaced and conversation is easy."

  • "First visit to this restaurant. Very good food, wonderful ambience. Only suggestion is that servers need to slow down and pay more attention to detail vs getting out the next course. Dinner reservation was for 7p and dessert at our table by 745. There was not a line waiting for tables and there were available reservations. We expect that quick meal/turn around at chain restaurants but not with fine dining. We asked waiter to stagger our courses so we could enjoy courses/evening. Result - 45 minute wait for check but point totally missed. We will likely give it another try at a later date."

  • "I came to La Bergerie for my birthday with five friends. We all loved what we ate. We strongly recommend the foie gras, the Dover sole and the price-fix lobster with risotto both of which are prepared table side. The birthday cake was delicious and my friend from Paris felt that the creme brulee was good; the only disappointment she has was the temperature of the top - she felt it should be hot, as in recently prepared and it had been prepared then refrigerated. C'est la vie! Overall, this was a great place for a special dinner. There are lots of wines to choose from and some that are even affordable. My last thought is that while dinner can take two hours, be aware that they close early! We left at 10 and were the last ones out!"

A friend and I recently celebrated our birthdays there. Everything was superb -- from the appetizers to the main courses to the legendary Grand Marnier souffles! The Caesar Salad and Dover Sole were prepared tableside, which added to the enjoyment of the occasion. La Bergerie is unique in so many ways, starting with the notably attentive and courteous staff. They even sent us a photo of our celebratory luncheon. If memorably delicious food is important to you, don't miss La Bergerie!"

The polish and ambience remain attractive, but the food, though decent, now seems a bit ho-hum. Good for nostalgic visits, if you do not have to travel too far and don't mind a sizeable jump in your monthly AmEx statement. If you're looking for safe food in classy environs, this may be the spot for you. If you hanker for revelations on the dinner plate (or a more affordable meal), you might want to look elsewhere."

The mushroom soup was excellent without too much cream; the Cesar salad is as much fun to watch being prepared at your table as it is tasty to eat.   • "My boyfriend and I agree this was one of the best meals we've had in the DMV area, and we have both lived in the region for a few years. The service was excellent. Our server knew the wines, knew the food, and knew how to get us to try new things without being pushy. We had foie gras and escargot to begin and was very pleased with the wine our server had recommended (after telling him we were thinking of the Pinot Noir, he gently recommended another). The ambiance was very romantic and relaxing. We were initially seated across from each other at a two-top, but were nicely asked if we would prefer to sit side by side on a four-top. Of course, we were happy to move! We will definitely be back soon."

  • "We return to LaBergerie as often as our schedules permit. This time, Mom was celebrating her birthday and Dad was also along so we celebrated their anniversary as well. Head Server, Carlos made our meal-time extra special, as he always does. Table side prepared Caesar Salad and Dover Sole are always on my list. The Veal Chop also had special takers at the table this time as well. La Bergerie is like a family gathering with elegance."

  • "For us, La Bergerie has the veneer of a French restaurant without the final touches that would lend it convincing evidence of authenticity. It goes through the motions without really having a stake in culinary excellence. Our dinner was adequate, though the lengthy hiatus between courses as well as lukewarm entrees gave testament to a bit of harried chaos in the kitchen. My tournedos were rapidly reheated to the point that medium rare had become medium well and the meat had been charred to the point that it resembled well worn shoe leather. Excellent soufflés for dessert left us with a positive accent at the end of the meal."

  • "Our first time eating here, the food was outstanding, portion sizes were perfect, and spaced appropriately. The staff was courteous, professional, and diligent. Ultimately, this was an excellent experience and one of my favorite restaurants in Old Town. Also, I noted on Open Table that it was my wife’s birthday and our waiter provided a small after diner desert with a Happy Birthday note. That was very nice, and good utilization of the note section provided by Open Table. We'll be back ,thanks."

  • "We went there because my wife really wanted to eat a raspberry souffle for dinner and we had heard great reviews about this place. We loved the decor, the service, and the food. However, this may not be the place for a one on one romantic dinner. Our little table was so closed to our neighbors that we could absolutely everything they were saying, including sexual conversation. That made it a little unpleasant, but we just tried tuning out our surrounding."
