Diner Reviews
  • "This place was possibly the best intimate dining experience I have had. The tasting menu is the way to go, pairing the dishes with different wines and trying so many new things. My now girlfriend and I couldn't have picked a better place for a first date."

  • "We have always enjoyed going to La Belle Vie as a special treat. The bar is beautiful and a nice place to enjoy a cocktail and appetizers as a couple or with friends. Valet parking is a plus. The restaurant (ambiance) is lovely and we appreciate the beauty of the old building that has been maintained. Service is predictably fabulous. We enjoy the creativity of the food at La Belle Vie however it is so rich that we often don't feel well afterwards. It would be welcome if there were a couple of dishes or sides that were less fatty. We love the venue, service, etc. but aren't certain that are systems can handle the rich food. Too bad because we will miss it."

  • "We have never been disappointed with the chefs menu and wine pairing. Make sure you have a dd as it is a lot if wine. Love the bar scene too!!"

  • "We found the restaurant via a friends recommendation. Excellent food and service. As we live in Canada we can not frequent as often as I would like, after having had a great dining experiencve. However, my wife and I have already talked of returning. We will be back."

  • "We dined at La Belle Vie for our 40th Wedding Anniversary last Saturday. My spouse has a number of food sensitivities/allergies to some widely used herbs and spices. Our server and chef(s) did an outstanding job 'customizing' my spouse's tasting menu selections. My Chef's Tasting Menu (with wine flights) was superb. Looking forward to our 41st Anniversary...at La Belle Vie :-)."

  • "We had a wonderful 40th anniversary dinner. Our server, Jack, was very attentive and made the evening very special for us. La Velle Vie was our number 1 choice for this special occasion and we were not disappointed."

  • "By far the best meal I have ever eaten. I brought my girlfriend for her birthday and she was blown away by the attention to detail and amazing service she revived. Each course was better than the next and kept us excited for te continuing courses, on the tasting menu."

  • "It was exactly what we hoped it would be: creative and satisfying food, superior service, in a first-class comfortable setting."

  • "We have been to La Belle Vie several times and they are always consistent in their high level of food quality, service, and special wines. We had the 5 course tasting menu with the wine flight, and left feeling more than satisfied. Each dish although small was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The menu had 2 fish dishes (sword fis and halibut), a poussin dish, a beef dish, and a dessert. All fantastic. They get their unique wines from selected small vineyards so you won't find them at other restaurants or wine shops, but they are delicious and beautifully paired with the meal."

  • "We were first timers, with high expectations. We were very impressed! The Grand Tasting Menu with 12 courses was fully enjoyed over a leisurely 3 hour dining experience. The staff were great, and Patrick our server was fun and friendly. A really great experience for our 30th wedding celebration. Thank You!"

  • "We had a fantastic experience at La Belle Vie! We started by having a cocktail at the bar before our dinner--the drinks were interesting and delicious, and the bartender service was great. We had an equally great experience with the 8-course tasting menu with wine pairings in the dining room. All of the food was amazing, but what really set the meal apart was the incredible service we received. I felt like a princess! Thank you, La Belle Vie, for making our anniversary dinner a memorable and wonderful event!!"

  • "As always, the food was divine, the service impeccable, the wines scrumptious, and our evening very memorable. Thank you!"

  • "Four of us enjoyed a superb dinner prepared with artistry, care, and imagination. The service was unrushed, knowledgeable, correct. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience."

  • "Beautiful surroundings, great service, terrific food, relaxed pace, and quiet enough for a conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The portion sizes were perfect - not the typical overflowing plate of too much food you get elsewhere - but might seem small in comparison. The specialty drinks were fun (and everyone at our table enjoyed them). The service was attentive, helpful, and pleasant."

  • "Whether it's a several course meal or dining a la carte this is the place to come for luxurious dining. While some of the selections are expensive it's very possible to dine beautifully and yet affordably."

  • "Meal was well paced, we tried the tasting menu with wine pairings. Delightful!"

  • "We decided to visit this restaurant for our anniversary. The service was fantastic. The food was also excellent. We decided to order separate entrées rather than one of the three different tasting menus. Both of our entrées, the Scallops and the Halibut, were very good, as was the food presentation. The serving sizes are not very large, but after bread, appetizer, and a salad, our main course, we were well satisfied. The wine list is very extensive, with most wine areas representing. I did some research before our visit, and had picked out a wine before arrival. I would recommend that you do this, as the number of choices with numerous price ranges can be overwhelming for most people"

  • "As always, the service was exceptional and the food was both interesting and delicious!"

  • "We dined at La Belle Vie as a celebration of my wife's retirement. La Belle Vie lived up to every expectation we had of a first-class Twin Cities' restaurant. The service was impeccable, the tasting menu an adventure with every course and the paired wines spot on for complementing the food. I realize that a tasting menu serves small portions, but just a little bit more of everything would have been appreciated and savored. Thank you LBV, for a special evening."

  • "We dined there on the occasion of our 47th wedding anniversary and it was terrific. The food was spectacular and the service impeccable with a very attentive but not invasive level of service. Our main waiter was very engaging and interesting as well."

  • "My favorite restaurant in the Twin Ciities. It has marvelous food, elegant and delicious, the service is first class, and I like the atmosphere."

  • "I am on business trip and always go to the best rated restaurant. This one appears to be good so I went there and ordered the $90 tasting menu as I always order tasting menus. Service is good except that 20% tip is applied mandatorily. Food is one of the worst I have ever had, without considering the price. If taking price into account, I have blacklisted this restaurant. It is simply a scam. Do not go."

  • "Went here with 2 teen age daughters to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. It was fun to have somewhere in town to get dressed up to go and the fixed menu was fantastic. It was an experience as well as a meal. We all LOVED it. "

  • "I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The wine list is extraordinary and the food is better. La Belle Vie goes the extra mile in every way from wait staff to desert. My visit on 5/24/14 was my second and I will be back soon."

  • "The attention to detail, artistic presentation, excellent service and delicious and interesting flavor combinations firmly place La Belle Vie at the top of our list if favorite restaurants in the world. We ordered the 8 course tasting menu along with the wine flights. If you are going to enjoy this restaurant consider going this route. Delicious!"

  • "We dined at La Belle Vie on a Monday night on a visit to Minneapolis. We had the eight course tasting menu and the food was uniformly excellent and the wine pairings were a good match and generously poured. The courses were beautifully plated and presented and were delightfully complex. The menu changes retularly so no point highlighting specific dishes. Highly recommended! Expensive but pretty good value for the price."

  • "One should always strive to better themselves or I would have rated 5 overall. Recently had a Great meal here. The staff was very knowledgeable of the items on the Tasting Menu and each of the courses were served in a very timely fashion. The wine that was served with each course was very fitting also. Great experience. I highly recommend!!!!!"

  • "We went to La Belle Vie for a special occasion and we did have a nice dinner. The food was good but not incredible and I feel that the menu more expensive than what I feel I need to pay for a nice meal, so I don't think we will go again. "

  • "Definitely the best dining experience I've ever had in the Twin Cities. The service was on point. Our waiter was engaging. They made us feel special on our anniversary. And the food! Wow! We had the Chef's tasting menu and each course was more beautiful and wonderful than the last. Loved it. "

  • "Ideal location if you are planning an additional even in Minneapolis as the location, across from the Walker Art Center, is on the edge of downtown and not hard to find. Opted for valet, a walk from the Walker parking ramp may take 5-10 minutes including a cross over Hennepin Ave. We were met without going to any hosting kiosk and taken directly to our table. Decor was on the stiff side but generally what I had expected. Dining room on the small/intimate side. At your expense, a floral arrangement can be placed at your table. Very prompt with water service. Ordering the Chef's Tasting Menu, each dish/wine was explained, new flatware with each course. Our server, Jennifer, was pleasant/fun and always available to answer questions."

  • "Service was great - everyone was very attentive. The food... AMAZING. My husband and I enjoyed the Chef's tasting meal. At the end of the meal, we would compare the whole experience to the 1812 Overture. Each dish built on the one before, each one delicious and wonderful with the flavors and textures, ending with a light and delicious dessert that left us leaving the meal feeling "complete". A fantastic experience with fantastic food."

  • "I love this restaurant with every ounce of my being...Chef Tim Mckee aint so bad at all!!"
    Dined on 4/30/2014
  • "There are good reasons this place is often rated as the best restaurant in the Twin Cities. They get everything right. We had the $75 5-course tasting menu (which is the smallest and least expensive of the three tasting menus. When you add in the treat from the chef, the amuse-bouche, and three kinds of bread, it was more like an eight-course menu. Pricey, yes...but it's as much an event as a meal. Everything was good, but the grilled dry aged beef with Porcini mushroom, artichokes and chives was outstanding. It is also available as an a la carte entree. If you're not looking to spend so much, there's a lively Bouillabaisse for under $30 and some a la carte items are even less. James Beard award-winning chef, Tim Mckee, scores again."
