Diner Reviews
  • "Thanks to Craig, Patrick, and everyone who makes La Bell Vie the wonderful place it is. The food is always interesting and beautiful. And having knowledgeable people who like food and good wine as much as you do is always fun. Still don't know how you figured out we were celebrating a birthday!"

  • "Pay attention to the menu pricing, it's per person. My bill totaled over $400 since I wasn't asking the right questions."
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "We had a perfect evening where we enjoyed the Chef's Tasting Menu paired with wine selections. As a relative rookie on super fine dining - the experience was fantastic! We will come again in the future."

  • "We were excited to try La Belle Vie after hearing rave reviews, however were both disappointed. The ambiance in the dinning room is far too stiff and stuffy. I understand they want to provide an elegant dinning experience, but this missed the mark. Furthermore, our food was bland and the portion sizes were vary small. Overall, I thought we paid far too much for sub-par food. Perhaps it was a bad night for them. We were not impressed."

  • "Really great food, the tasting menu was delicious and way too much food. For the price, the dishes were underwhelming, all of them were great, but few outstanding."

  • "What can I say? It's La Belle Vie. From the first greeting at the door to the complimentary dessert treats it's all exquisite. Best server, best wine, best food ever."

  • "The tasting menu paired with the wines was fantastic! Our waitress was so helpful. One of the guests in our party has celiac and they were able to accommodate this dietary need without taking away from the experience. Wonderful!"

  • "We ordered the Chef's tasting menu for four. There were eight courses listed but if you count the two amuse dishes, two bread 'courses' (both excellent, especially the mini-parkerhouse rolls which probably have a more impressive French name) and the after-dessert confections, this was a two-hour, 13-course event. Spendy but worth it, the best fine-dining meal I've had in the Twin Cities."

  • "All I have to say is that it was so good it made me sad and it wasn't out of regret that I can't afford to eat that well every day. Some things are just that good and beautiful."

  • "From the moment you walk into the building you are made to feel welcome and cared for. The staff is by far the best asset the restaurant has going for it, and that says alot given the food is fantastic. We really enjoyed our anniversary there and look forward to going back with friends this summer. Great food, Fantastic service!"

  • "This is a superb restaurant. I recommend the degustation with the matching wines. It's incomparable made even more so by having Kim as the waiter."

  • "Took my daughters to celebrate the arrival of their niece and my granddaughter. We all went with the 5 course tasting menu, I went also with the wine pairing flight. Daughters wanted some adjustments and the chef accommodated, something I rarely encounter on tasting menus. Everything was superb, with the poussin and grass fed beef leading the way amongst courses. We all were blown away by the delightful desert course which ended the meal. One of my daughters was a bit put off by the price, but by the end she readily admitted that sometimes the price is right. Chef is still on his game."

  • "This was our first wedding anniversary and we found La Belle Vie to be a very sophisticated dining pleasure. My husband has dined around the world and we can not always find these type of experiences in the Twin Cities. We both had different tasting meal with wonderful bottle of wine. Our meals continued to flow with a detailed explanation of what each food item was. It was wonderful and memorable first wedding anniversary."

  • "My wife and I were in Minneapolis for some plays at the Guthrie and booked our restaurant choices. La Belle Vie was a fantastic experience for us both. We absolutely loved the ambiance, the food and the staff. We will definitely be returning."

  • "La Belle Vie is among the best restaurants I have ever dined. We ate the sampler and each course was prepared to perfection. Thank you. Marty Gaslin"

  • "La Belle Vie is everything that you have read. The food is fantastic and there is an atmosphere to fit both the rowdier crowd (bar side) and a quieter crowd (dining room). Though the prices are high, the quality you get for that money is well worth it. My only qualm is that I would have like a minute or two longer in between courses on the tasting menu. If that is the only qualm, I think it's doing alright."

  • "Easily top 5 restaurant in Minneapolis. Incredible service, great cocktails, decadent French cuisine. Could not recommend more highly."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Terribly expensive. I am all about spending a decent amount of money for a nice meal but there are so many restaurants in Minneapolis that blow this place away for 1/3 of the price. We had the Chefs Tasting which is eight courses, I understand that the more courses the smaller the plates are, but these were literally a bites-worth of food, and none of the tastings left me wanting more. Wine is also outrageously priced. $20 for a glass, really? Yes there were other choices but maybe one or two under $15. I think bottles started around $70ish. Ambience was as expected and service was excellent, but we will never go back to this place. You could easily have 2-3 nights out in Minneapolis for the price of one at La Belle Vie."

  • "No atmosphere in dining room and overminimalist portions on appetizers meant you couldn't even taste the excellence of the chef... Very disappointing much preferred 112 eatery"

  • "Had eaten here before a few years ago so we were pretty excited to return. Meal, however, was noticeably not as good. Several of the dishes were poorly seasoned. Had one with a broth that was watery and almost tasteless. Another was seasoned with large crystals of salt as my wife and I both bit down on several. Beef dish was very tough and smoked fish left us with a fishy taste that lingered for several more courses. Really disappointed as we had such a wonderful experience a few years ago. When you are paying $150 for a tasting, you expect much more. Will not go back."

  • "We come La Belle Vie to celebrate special occasions and have for many years. The food is outstanding on it's own, but the pairing of wines to the food is special. I highly recommend sharing this special place with someone you love."

  • "I haven't been to La BelleVie since they relocated to Minneapolis but have to say the beauty of the location matches the food!! We were simply amazed by the Chef's tasting menu and service. I would recommend it for anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion with a mind blowing meal"

  • "Not many restaurants can sustain their game over 15 plus years? La Belle has been one of an elite few that has delivered excellent food, attentive yet discreet service and an over all superb dining experience since it opened in Stillwater 17 years ago. My Boulliabaise was impeccable. If I could have I would have licked every drop of the broth from my bowl. While the restaurant has remained true to it Mediterranean cuisine the whole time, Tim McKee has found ways to create surprises at every visit I've had to this restaurant. La Belle does everything right. Keep up the great work Tim and Bill!"

  • "We went here for our one year anniversary, and it is definitely a splurge in our minds, but great for a special occasion. The food is phenomenal, portions are small, but amazing. If you're willing to splurge, it's definitely an experience to remember!"

  • "From the moment we walked in, the experience was memorable. Our server, Patrick, was incredibly knowledgable and welcoming throughout the entire meal. His attentiveness was outstanding. We did the 8 course Charlie Trotter meal with the wine pairing and were well informed as each course and it's respective wine was introduced to us. Each bite was delicious and we all left incredibly satisfied."

  • "We celebrated our 40th anniversary at La Belle Vie. It was a perfect dinner. Quiet conversation, relaxed paced, very helpful wait staff, EXCELLENT food. We had the middle-sized tasting menu with the accompanying wines, we enjoyed all the courses without feeling overstuffed. We were glad we had the tasting menu; we really liked a couple of the courses that we wouldn't have ordered otherwise. We'll be back, and won't wait for the next special occasion, a getaway weekend in Minneapolis will be all the excuse we need."

  • "My husband and I splurged over the weekend by taking in the eight-course tasting and wine flight. It was an expensive and generally lovely meal, up until the final course. We had long finished the dessert before the sherry arrived. The waiter was unaware we had had dessert and explained how lovely the sherry is with it. I asked if it was meant to come after dessert and he said, "No, with it." Then, I said kindly that we had already had our last course and the plates had been cleared. He looked dumbfounded and said that couldn't have been the case, but I explained the dessert we enjoyed. He didn't say anything further, didn't actually acknowledge the mistake, or even apologize for it."

  • "La Belle Vie missed the mark today. Generally very bland and the wine pairings left something to be desired. I would not recommend the grand tasting menu."
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "Several foodie friends recommended this place to me. I finally went with my wife. We had the Chef Tasting menu and it blew us away! So many flavors, textures, and the wine pairings were fantastic. We were filled with the Chef's menu and don't know how we could have fit in the additional courses that were on the Grand Menu. The price point is quite high at this restaurant, but if you love food, and the experience of learning about your sense of taste... then you should definitely go!"

  • "We often dine at the bar, but we enjoyed the main dining room on this visit and the excellent tasting menu. It's a wonderful treat to get some many interesting tastes - paired with just the right wines. When you want a special night out, try out the tasting menu - always a treat."

  • "I have been coming to La Belle Vie in Stillwater and Downtown Minneapolis, both for business and for romantic dinners with my wife. I have never been let down. Outstanding food, very personal waiting staff with character and outstanding environment. I am going back for more!"

  • "Still my favorite restaurant in the twin city. Everything is perfect."

  • "Keeping it short. chef's tasting menu was delicious, well prepared and plated. The flavor profiles were distinct and creative. If I could have one thing before I died, it would be the pickled Foie Gras... so delicate, creamy and flavorful."

  • "Very ambient atmosphere to dine and have dinner conversation with our friends. The courses were well timed with impeccable service by the wait staff who were also extremely knowledgeable about the food and wines. We all opted for the eight course tasting menu which provided delectable samplings of a wide array of exquisitely presented courses including fish, rabbit, lobster, cheese, and sorbet. My favorite was the braised rabbit agnolotti with poached rabbit loin and crispy kale, and the unexpected bolognese sauce that surprisingly blended well with the subtle rabbit. I look forward to a return engagement and it doesn't have to be a special occasion."
