A word from La Becasse MI
La Becasse is located in Burdickville, which is near Glen Arbor in Leelanau County. We serve authentic French country fare in an intimate setting which truly evokes the French countryside. This is soul-satisfying food. We have an award winning wine list, which is heavy on French wines, and features many Michigan wines as well as great picks from around the wine-world.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Authentic French-country dining experience with a smaller, tasteful food menu and a fantastic wine list. Pluses were that we weren't overwhelmed by the size of the menu (something we find obnoxious/unnecessary), the server was knowledgeable but not pretentious and the crowd was an eclectic mix of lower-key folks-- making for a very comfortable atmosphere. Minuses were that it was a bit stuffy and there were some fruit flies, which could arguably be part of the "authentic" experience, but we could have done without. Overall, a lovely meal that left everyone at our table satisfied and relaxed."

  • "We vacation in Glen Arbor and grown up night at La Becasse has become a yearly tradition. The food is fantastic and the service excellent. The wine list is very good too."

  • "We had an excellent meal. The duck was spectacular and the chocolate lava cake was a special end to our meal. We will definitely be return customers."

  • "Great appetizer (cheese plate), bad entree (eggplant), best dessert in the world (blueberry lemon parfait). The bottle of champagne we ordered was warm as warm can be. So overall the experience was disappointing."

  • "Had an enjoyable dinner here but found the place itself to be a little shabby. No real decoration on the walls, fruit flies were all over the food. The food, however, was delicious. Had the eggplant and and the whitefish, the plates were nicely presented as well. For dessert we had the lemon blueberry parfait and a the dessert special- a raspberry cake with a fancy french name that I cannot remember. Overall, I'd come back again. Just wish the place was a little nicer."

  • "The chef demonstrates too much restraint. Seasoning esp. Salt is unduly lacking. You have to ask the waiter. 3 tables asked. In a word .... Bland."

  • "This was our second time at La Becasse. The restaurant in located within sight of beautiful Glen Lake and minutes from the famous "Sand Dunes" in Empire, Glen Haven and Glen Arbor. The restaurant is simple but elegant. The food and service was outstanding. I had the duck, my wife had the lamb. We had cheese plate appetizer which included 3 different types (all excellent). We ordered a reasonably priced (under $25) bottle of Cote du Rhone which paired well with the cheeses and main courses. The service was top-notch. All in all this was an outstanding dining experience."

  • "It's a bit of a drive from Traverse City but worth it! Good selection of wines, including good local wines. Food was very good. Service was attentive--you don't get "are you still working on it?" here. A bit pricey. We goofed on our reservation but they still accommodated us."

  • "We were vacationing in Northwestern Michigan with our friends and their two teenage daughters. Our friends had visited La Becasse a few years ago and couldn't quit talking about how wonderful it was, so we decided that our "fancy" night out would be at La Becasse. We made a reservation for a Thursday evening at 6:00. When we got there, there were a few others already seated, but the place was far from crowded. Within 30 min., the place was packed, so I think we picked a good time to get there. Our meal was nothing short of fabulous. The attention to detail on the plates was obvious. The ingredients used were fresh and local, and the chef knew how to coax the best flavors from them. We will absolutely return to La Becasse next summer!!"

  • "We had our farewell to Northern Michigan dinner at La Becasse the other night -- and it was the perfect topper for a great vacation week. We really enjoyed the house-made pate and the beet salad was exceptional. Thank you for a memorable evening."

  • "New menu still brings quality local produce to the table in French style. Friendly and corteous staff ensure a pleasant dining experience which you willwant to repeat. Very much worth the no-hassle drive out M-72 west from Traverse City."

  • "We have dined at La Becasse many times over many years. Consistently very good food and service. Menu a bit limited but nice specials. Highly recommend."

  • "We have always visited this fine restaurant on our trips north - we have noticed the past couple of visits that the culinary variety is not as unique as we have so enjoyed in the past. Valerie is a superb waitress and are always pleased with her friendly manner- thanks for another fine evening ."

  • "Not only were the Duck and Veal cooked perfect, our server Becky was knowledgeable in ALL aspects of the Dinner and Drink. It doesn't surprise me they've always come highly recommended. A+"

  • "We have dined at LaBecasse several times over the years when we have been in northern Michigan vacationing. Originally referred to us by foodie friends, you have to know its there...or you will miss it. This is truly a culinary gem in the middle of the countryside in the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan. The cuisine is French, relatively simple and delicious! The wine list just won't quit; and if you are interested in an after dinner drink, they have the best of everything. The wait staff is very professional and friendly - they seem to tend to the little one's in your dining group just as well as to their parents. A truly delightful dining experience!"

  • "Drinks were incredible. The morel appetizer was wonderful. Get the whitefish. It's a signature dish and the sauce is not to be believed!"

  • "Not our first time here so we had high expectations. Hanger steak was tough and Whitefish and rice were very dry. Time to revamp menu."

  • "The menu might not change often but whatever the chef is offering up for the evening, is what we order. Great food, with interesting, tastebud teasing flavors that make you question, "how do they do that?" in a great way!!"

  • "La Becasse is the finest restaurant I have ever been to because: 1. They prepare their food simply and don't try to "wow you" with how unusual their preparations are; 2. What they do, they do exceptionally; 3. The food is always outstanding; 4. Servers are knowledgeable about the food and the wine list; 5. The ambiance is charming with its simplicity and French country feel. There is no attempt to create and atmosphere, it simplyl "is" at La Becasse. Every time I travel to Northern Michigan, I make it a point to eat at La Becasse. I have never been disappointed."

  • "Real nice experience, very quaint and reservations are probably a must. Had the hanger steak and it was decent meat, but was more impressive was that the sauces weren't over powering and well thought. Overall, met prices. Paying for very good food and you get it here."

  • "I dined at La Becasse 24 years ago, and thought we would try it again. Last time as I can remember, I thought it was excellent, this time a little different. It was very high priced for what you received. I had the hanger steak at $32, at that price I thought the steak would be out of this world and very tender. Well, it was four little pieces that was not melt in your mouth. The presentation was very nice. It came with a seasonal veg and we received two little carrots and 2 little asparagus, and the smallest amount of pototoes ever. The best part was the wine, and choc cake. "

  • "We took our exchange student to celebrate her birthday to La Becasse and we had such a wonderful meal. She is from France so how appropriate to take her there and celebrate! We enjoyed everything about our time there, the staff was so welcoming, the food was amazing and our family went away with fantastic memories."

  • "Our server was magnificent as was the meal. The chef made a special vegetarian plate for me and a vegan dish for my husband. They even knew the difference and excluded butter when preparing his entrée. "

  • "After a long and I mean long cold bitter winter it was great to finally come back to Labecasse . The food was outstanding as always and service was also great as usual. My wife and I dine all over the country and the simplicity of this place makes it our favorite. My only suggestion would be to have some Italian Tuscan wines on wine list. "

  • "Great service and excellent fare in a quaint restaurant nestled in the woods near Glen Lake. The house pate was superb and the house salad was crisp and not overdressed. My cassoulet was savory and filled with sausage and duck. The pork belly gave it an extra special touch. Great comfort food!! To die for desserts, so come with an appetite. Good wine list as well...not overpriced by the glass as is common practice elsewhere."

  • "We dine at La Becasse for special occasions. Really, though, we ought to come more - because every time we do, we have a perfect meal, are served expertly, always receive an excellent wine pairing recommendation, and meet interesting people at the table next to us. So it was on Valentine's Day. An exceptional meal!"
