Diner Reviews
  • "The food was excellent. The bread and the olive oil, garlic and parmesan cheese they bring in the beginning is to die for! That was just the beginning. Five of us were in our group and everyone was raving how good the food was. Our waitress, Susan, was superb! Will go back for sure."

  • "Everything was ideally prepared, but don't understand the use of beach towels as table clothes. Even white butcher paper would suffice."

  • "My wife and I both had a fillet mignon; they were simply the best. The sides were also excellent. Wines were superb. The two meals with 3 glasses of wine came to about $170 after tip. Will definitely be back."

  • "Went for brunch on Sunday. Server was very good. A great garlic, cheese, oil and bread appetizer was enjoyed by all. This is a favorite any time of day. One member of our party had the Poke and enjoyed it. Eggs Benedict had way too much sauce -- dominated the plate. French toast was sections of a loaf of French bread served vertically on the plate. Thickness was probably 4 inches. Tops were soggy with egg mixture since they couldn't be browned like slices of bread. Syrup was already poured on the plate along with large dollops of butter. The best food we have had here is appetizers and cocktails on the deck overlooking the marina. A fun place for sunset get together with friends. Won't be going back for lunch or dinner."

  • "This restaurant is very small. In spite of that, management has apparently decided to see just how many people they can cram into this tiny space. The result is that it feels like the people at adjacent tables are part of your conversations. The scenic view of the marina outside is great, but not worth being crammed in like sardines. The food and service was good, but it took plenty of time to get it. We sat for dinner at 7:30, and didn't get out until almost 9:30. We finally gave up waiting on our dessert after over 20 minutes. While the food was good, it wasn't worth the wait. It especially wasn't worth the price. Two of us managed to rack up a $200 check without ordering wine or fancy cocktails. We definitely won't be coming back."

  • "Maybe the best on the island and we like a lot of places. While beach towel table cloths are certainly unique, we would recommend something less bulky than terrycloth -- colorful/beachy sarongs?"

  • "Very small and cozy. Food was delicious although the bone-in filet minon was over priced. The lobster pasta was fabulous! So was the hot fresh, salted-crust bread and dipping garlic-infused oil. Was so much looking forward to their popular dessert, the bread pudding, but sadley it was over-cooked and burned around the outside."

  • "This restaurant continues to produce a quality dining experience. This time the Diver Scallops were wonderful--and the brussels sprouts were so good that one of our party was convinced they could be worth eating! Their filet is always perfect. We always find a wine we enjoy from their interesting wine list. We were glad we made an Open Table reservation as they were busy."

  • "Must go! The food was wonderful, great atmosphere great service limited seating which is awesome, I've only been here the one time but I will continue to go back!"

  • "I don't like to focus on decor too much but the Beach Towels used as table clothes and fiber towels used as Napkins are Very Distracting in a nicely decorated, ship salon style restaurant, those items should be used at a beach bar/grill. I ordered a glass of wine from the list, they no longer stock it, the waitress chose a substitute and seemed irritated that I did not like it. The lobster crab cakes to mushy and breadie the sweet corn was good. Now to the biggest disappointment, Lobster Mashed Potatoes at $15 for 1 cup: dry, potatoe lumpy, actually garlic mashed potatoes with lobster thrown in and the garlic over powdered the lobster I took three bites hoping the taste would improve. I am out of room. Eat outside order simple appetizers."

  • "We visited on a Friday night during off season in Port. Aransas. We were seated immediately at a quant table overlooking the pool. We ordered a wonderful cheese plate and two entrees. I had the Lobster Fettucine (which was to die for) and my husband had Lobster cakes. Our meals were excellent and we had enough left over for lunch the next day! We were in and out in about an hour and 15 minutes. Our server was informative and had just the right sense when we might need her. There were some rowdy folks at the bar but they didn't bother us at all. Overall, this was a great way to celebrate my husbands' 52 birthday!"

  • "Great dining experience. Table setting was attractive with lighted candle, table cloth, and harbor view. Wait staff and Hostess were friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was excellent, the bread and garlic/dipping sauce that accompanied our meal was a one of a kind taste experience. I ordered the Spinach salad and the Beef Tenderloin Fillet, and my wife ordered the grilled shrimp as a meal. Wine, Pina Colada, and Coffee were also ordered. One of the very few establishments that offers raw sugar with their coffee! The food presentation was only exceeded by the taste! No wait for our 7 PM Friday night table reservation. Food arrived hot. Nothing but compliments for this establishment."

  • "This was our second time to dine at La Barataria. Again the food was amazing! Even something that you would imagine as simple like carrots are prepared in such a way that you just keep wanting more. I highly recommend the chateaubriand for two. It's quite a feast and an excellent value. The lobster mashed potatoes are to die. Our server was excellent always appearing at just the right moment when we were in need of a wine refresh. The wine list is great, too! Leslie, the owner is so friendly and always makes it a point to come out and say hello to everyone in the restaurant and make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. If you have not tried La Barataria, make the drive. You won't regret it!"

  • "went here for to celebrate an anniversary dinner. it was lovely, quiet, and intimate. the food was delicious; the ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the lobster cake had nice big chunks of lobster meat in it. our waitress was patient, friendly, and helpful, without being too overbearing. it was kind of expensive, but with a yelp deal, it wasn't too bad on the wallet. for a special occasion, the restaurant really met all our expectations."

  • "This is such an amazing gem located in on the water in Port Aransas. We had the chef special dinner for two. 16 oz of filet with lobster mashed potatoes and two sides. All I can say is WOW! The flavors are mind blowing and the steak was prepared and cooked perfectly. The fresh baked bread is delicious. And the bread pudding dessert was outstanding. They also have an excellent wine list. This was my first time there. We live in Houston and I am very familiar with excellent food. I will most definitely be returning and can highly recommend this as a must try place for dinner."

  • "The plates of food are too big. Everything could be split by two diners. It has a nice atmosphere and the service is good. If it is very crowded, the meal will take a long time to come from the kitchen. That is not the server's fault. Relax; you're on the island! Monday is half priced wine by the bottle."

  • "I'd not been to the restaurant in the Island Moorings Marina in Port Aransas in many years and decided to go this past weekend. If you are looking for a small place with a nice view of a marine, a great sunset, excellent food, a good wine list, a knowledgeable and friendly staff, and are willing to spend Houston/Austin/Dallas/San Antonio prices for a great evening, then this is a place for you. As one example of the service, the particular Pinot Grigio that I'd selected was not available but rather than come back with the wine list, our waiter brought back three alternative wines for us to taste that had been selected by the Chef based on what we'd ordered for our entrees. One was a perfect fit and paired well with our meal."

  • "We had a fabulous brunch. The menu items for brunch are very unique. The Dutch pancakes are wonderful. The servings are ample along with great presentations. They have a small staff which were attentive. The kitchen is tiny so if your in a hurry you will probably need to go somewhere else. Take your time to enjoy your meal and the views."

  • "The best food we've had in Port A. We go to Port A at least twice a year and we were thrilled to discover La Barataria. We will be sure to go here every time we go in the future. I had a sashimi medley of three kinds of fish and it was outstanding. Lobster cake appetizer was wonderful and their pizzas were amazing! Highly recommended!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at La Barataria. Service was excellent, not rushed, but always attentive. Had a nice glass of wine that was recommended by our waiter. The bread basket was delicious, especially with the roasted garlic. Also ordered the olives and there was plenty to take home w us. Our entrees were the snapper and lobster cake, both delicious. The view was beautiful, we will return for sure!"

  • "The first surprise was the charge for bread on the menu. After getting some I would have paid double their asking price! It was AMAZING!!! The Caprese salad was big enough to share and quite good. My wife had the filet and loved it. I got a Mahi Mahi dish but was not impressed as it had too much soy on it. The sides were delicious and especially the carrots! Overall, a nice evening meal while on vacation."

  • "Since this was our first visit we were not sure what to expect. We read several reviews both positive and negative. We both opted for a glass of ice tea, which I must say was very flavorful and not watered down. So we were off to a good start, As an appetizer we chose to share the bread basket which included an olive tapanade, roasted garlic and grated romano cheese, very good I must say. I added the cherry tomato salad enough for two people and then some. We then ordered the lobster cake dinner and 8 oz filet dinner and added some grilled shrimp, perfection is all I can say, the place is excellant. We can't wait to return."

  • "One of the better restaurant meals I've ever eaten..really...I had the broiled tuna dish, with light cajun seasoning..wonderful. My 3 companions all had the prime rib...pretty good (what can you expect for basically a seafood restaurant?). Nice wine list---many by-the-glass options. Was there on a Friday evening...they were pretty busy and I think they were short one waiter/waitress, so service was maybe a bit slow. Small indoor dining room...they have outdoor seating, but it was too chilly/windy in February. Overlooks a marina. You can find a cheaper restaurant in Port A, but not a better one. I'll be back next winter."
