  • "We went to L2O for our anniversary. It could not have been a better experience. The staff, from parking valet to wait staff, were all top notch and supremely professional. The food was excellent and each presentation was more stunning than the last. I would who heartedly recommend this restaurant for anyone desiring a world class dining experience."

  • "I think the title says it all. I feel quite bad for writing this review as the front of house did a superb job. But when you spend this much on a 2-Star Michelin restaurant, you expect your palate to be delighted. I love seafood, heck, I love FOOD. But the flavors at L2O did not play out well. As a Yelp review recently put it, they used way too much gelee. Textures and taste did not jive. After our meal at Abac (2-star michelin in Spain) I felt clean and pleasant, the science supported the food. However at L2O it seems the flavor was forgotten for presentation. Please refocus your energies back on the flavors, I wanted so much to like the meal. If in Chicago, I'd instead recommend: Alinea Longman & Eagle Union Sushi Chef Table"

  • "I enjoy fine dining and have no issue spending money for good quality food. This restaurant was not quality food and the experience wasn't enjoyable. The portions were small as expected but in my opinion it was just OK. Nothing was spectacular especially for the price. The best thing was the dessert that was complimentary. I wouldn't go back. I had high expectations for this place and ate better food at my hotel restaurant at the four seasons."

  • "This is a restaurant worthy of its Michelin stars. The service was excellent. We appreciated that they followed our lead as to the pace and level of interaction we wanted. The food was fantastic, some of the offerings were more to our liking than others but everything was well executed and beautiful to behold. FYI the pigeon is served with all of its parts; it is not for the squeamish. The cocktails were a pleasant surprise, we are glad we took another reviewer's advice and ordered a few before dinner. We had a wonderful experience and look forward to returning."

  • "We went for my wife's birthday. Absolutely the best restaurant we have ever been to. Food was fantastic, beautifully presented, service was impeccable. Phenomenal experience. They made a special night unforgettable. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "One of the best overall dinning experiences we have ever had. From the second you walk in and are greeted, you just know you are in for something special. The open-air high ceiling room is perfectly arranged with spacious seating, we felt extremely comfortable the entire evening. Colors and lighting were perfect, the noise level was just right. We started off with a perfectly mixed and presented cocktail, then ordered the 4-course pre fixe menu with wine pairings. The dinner also included amuse-bouches with wine, an intermezzo and special candies and sweets, plus a take-home treat and menu. The service was amazing, done with precision and care to every detail. The food and wine was spectacular, L20 is 5 stars all around."

  • "This dinner could not have been any more superb. The service was impeccable, every last detail taken care of and with a friendly manor. The staff were very knowledgeable of the menu, and were happy to explain preparations and presentation of the food. I will undoubtably be back to this amazing restaurant when the menu changes! A must eat when in Chicago!!!"

  • "We had the prix fixe menu and everything was delicious. If a chef is offering an additional special course, we will usually try it. L2O offered an additional course, it was a fresh scallop rolled with truffles in a truffle butter sauce, wow, it looked amazing and didnt' disappoint in flavor! We had a great time and the staff complimented the food:)"

  • "Unfortunately I wasted 5 hours on this dining experience...3-hour-roundtrip drive plus 2-hours in the restaurant. I won't return. I was amazed at the underwhelming flavors, the ridiculously overpriced 8-course tasting and extremely marked up wine list. An expensive mistake in a city with world class restautants."

  • "We went for Valentines Saturday. Not my first visit. The ambiance is extraordinary. The dining room is elegant and open, but the noise level is low with a feeling of privacy and intimacy. The service is impeccable. Each new course is presented with a detailed explanation. We went early prior to the theatre and our courses were served promptly but not hastily. It is far better to take your time and not rush. But that was our choice, not theirs and they graciously accommodated. The food was outstanding. The creativity and talent of the kitchen brings delicious and at times playful creations that are well worth the price. I highly recommend L20 for any special occasion, romantic evening or anyone who simply wants to experience the very best."

  • "We had a splendid evening experience the personalized service and great food tasting here. Made our anniversary special. We received great guidance from the sommelier on wine selection. The chef tasting menu was well paced and explained well. For the most part, every item was delectable. Of course there was that 1 dish that I wouldn't eat, just because I don't like bone marrow. But other than that, all was good. Our captain even escorted us to our taxi to cap the night off wonderfully. Check it out."

  • "We had first eaten at L2O just after Michelin had demoted the restaurant to 1 star when they lost their chef. We liked the restaurant then but the food and presentation with the current chef, Matthew Kirkley was exceptional. The food was complex and perfectly prepared. This was coupled with careful and artistic presentation of the dishes. For example, the ahi tuna tartare had individual carviar eggs rowed on top. The staffing for the front of the house was abundant and service was attentive, professional and friendly. The restaurant currently holds two stars but, if the quality continues, I would not be surprised if they gain their third star in the next couple of years."

  • "Prix Fixe menu: excellent food, with several extras. Phenomenal service - fussily attentive but still fun. A great place for a very special occasion, but be prepared to spend $500 for two."

  • "Amazing menu and presentation. Food here is truly an art. Portions are small, so after dropping $300 per person you could actually leave hungry? Skip the extra cookies and multicourse dessert and add an ounce or two to the main entree please. Wine list is expensive and overwhelming so we opted for the pairings. Service was a bit stiff, affected and somewhat cloying. Decor is pretty stark and sterile. Nice to have checked this off the list, not sure it was worth the cost."

  • "We were hoping for a very good dining experience, but the whole night knocked our socks off. The food was artfully presented, fantastically flavorful and the service was choreographed to perfection. And in true, wonderful Chicago form, our server who was a complete professional asked us what our Super Bowl plans were, proving once again that stellar service can come without pretentiousness. Great night all around."

  • "At L2O, the dishes are front and center, masterpieces of art and science. Each plate is an artistic virtuoso of shape and color, as well as blended tastes and flavors. Our party ordered every option available, and we were not disappointed at all. The caviar perfectly set high expectations for the remainder of the dinner. The tasting menu adeptly advances the diner through each plate in a progression that complements yet also builds upon the previous courses. The wine pairings recommended by the young sommelier were brilliant at coaxing further fine notes from each dish. The service was prompt, well-trained and talented. The minimalist interior is meant to spotlight the food, but more ambience could have complemented the experience."

  • "our evening at L20 was truly amazing. the dining room is a serene space unencumbered by lots of "stuff"...a perfect backdrop for the amazing food that came throughout the evening. we chose the 4 course menu with pairings. each course, and the little surprises in between, was a visual and taste delight. our server leah was informative, fun and enjoys what she does. aaron's parings made a wonderful dinner even better. he too was energetic and we enjoyed visiting with him. kudos to chef matthew and his team! fantastic service, beautiful room, kind staff, spectacular & creative food and an evening that will be talked about for some time!! thank you."

  • "We had the 14 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The sommelier did a fabulous job of matching the wine with each course. It was one of the best pairings we have seen. The service moved along at a comfortable pace-- it was not hurried or too slow. The wait staff operated like a well oiled machine. They knew how to do several jobs and could step in on a moments notice to help another member of the staff out. This wait staff is very highly trained and knowledgeable. Lastly, hats off to the kitchen staff. Each course was fabulous. The flavor combinations and presentation were perfect."

  • "I not only enjoy good food, but having the incredible service to go along with it, as well as fabulous ambiance - L20 hit the bullseye! My husband and I went together with my sister and brother-in-law to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. L20 had Joe's name imprinted on the menu which was a special touch. Not to be missed, is the table side presentation of cocktails - which were all phenomenal. We each had the prix fixe menu and it was excellent. We also shared the special preparation of the scallops with the truffle sauce - to die for!!! Every dish was presented beautifully and tasted delicious! This restaurant had by far, the most superior service we have ever had while dining!"

  • "I surprised my boyfriend on our anniversary with dinner at L2O. The restaurant was exceptional in making our anniversary an extremely special occasion. All the staff that catered our table from the second we entered the restaurant was aware and wished us a "happy anniversary". We were even presented with CUSTOMIZED MENUS with our names and anniversary printed on. That was a surprise for me as well :) The food doesn't really need a "review" other than it was DIVINE! Every course on the tasting was absolutely DELICIOUS. (They accommodated our dietary needs and altered the menu accordingly.. we are both pescatarian) Overall, this was THE MOST MEMORABLE restaurant experience I have had thus far."

  • "Great restaurant! Definitely deserve their 2 Michelin Stars! Food was a little too rich and salty to my tasting but they are all extremely well done dishes from coordinating ingredients to presentation! And surely please don't discredit their taste due to my personal preferences, because my companion do enjoyed every single dishes. Service was definitely extraordinary, you will be treated from the moment you walk in till the very last moment you get onto your taxi cab. Not to mention it is a very stylist setting for dates or occasions. L2O was definitely the highlight of my trip to Chicago! A must try restaurant!"

  • "I can count the restaurant reviews I've bothered to write on one hand. I felt my L2O experience was deserving of recognition. L2O is foodie heaven. Right-sized portions of exquisite preparation that left you satisfied by the taste and aroma experience. Probably the best wine pairings I have ever had. The staff were professional yet personable. It is a little tough on the wallet, but certainly worth it for those special occasions that demand near perfection."

  • "L2O was an amazing experience. We started with a glass of the best champagne I have ever tasted and a complimentary appetizer of blue crab in "chip" form. My husband and I got the 16 course tasting menu and it was wonderful. I had heard that the wine selections were outstanding and we enjoyed the one we got so much that we ordered a case of it when we got home. I had also heard that the rosemary croissants were delicious and we just couldn't get enough of them. The servers were very helpful, attentive, and gracious. My husband especially liked it that the valet and the coat check girl were expecting us to arrive. I will look forward to going back for the prix fix menu which was a very tempting choice. A stellar experience!!!"

  • "When you dine at a restaurant as pricey as this you expect the flavor of the food to be an unconditional WOW. In the case of L2O, the flavor of the food took a backseat to the presentation. The food looked GRAND but it tasted BLAND. We kept wanting the flavor to be a WOW but it never came close...and we were there for four hours waiting."

  • "Perhaps my favorite special occasion restaurant in Chicago. I cannot understand why it is not listed up there with Alinea, Grace, etc. Perhaps their focus on seafood. The food is excellent and the service always impeccable, including the sommelier. Having your valet parking tied to your reservation, so your car is always ready when you are is a nice extra touch."

  • "There are a number of first rate restaurants in Chicago, but the L2O experience is a near perfect one from the service to presentation and taste of food. If you are looking for the best choice for a special occasion, L2O should be one your short-list"

  • "Over the top experience ! Even if a bit pricy, creative presentation, high quality service and delectable food compensates !!! Choice of 2 menus (a long one and a very long one !) and optional of wine pairing. Pure joy for taste buds :o)"

  • "We had a wonderful night for my birthday. Food was amazing, very subtile, fresh and creative. We took the tasting menu which is very well organized, we never wait. Every body was very nice. We even had the chance to discover the kitchen and to meet the Chef! Thanks a lot for that dinner, it was a delightful experience."
