We make it our must stop place whenever we are in the Dubuque area. Never had anything but a wonderful meal and experrience at L-May. I just wish it were closer to where we live ( Des Moines) so we could go more often.

The crab cakes and bruschetta appetizers were delicious, as was my monkfish. I also tried the filet, which was prepared perfectly and was only $26 for an 8 oz., including a side and salad. May for the first time on Saturday with a group of friends for dinner. We had a great experience! Lexie, our server, was awesome, providing food and wine recommendations and joking around with us and sharing stories about the restaurant. The food was outstanding, the osso buco was a favorite. We also had a vegetarian in the group with high standards and polenta provencal was also excellent.
I look forward to returning to try the bacon crab mac-and-cheese pizza!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTrying Something NewL May has been my favorite local treasure for years. I pride myself on ordering the osso bucco each and every time; and I am never disappointed. But, this week, I tried something new - polenta cakes with tomato vegetable sauce. It was just as delicious and even more appropriate for spring time...just loved it. The tables could have been placed better, it felt a bit cramped.
I have never ordered pork out at a restaurant and it was superb.
My husband likes his steak well done and has experienced many dry steaks but his filet was tender and juicy.

The people at L. May were very warm and welcoming. We had a very good waitress, and the food was very good. We split the pork, and the Dubuquer Pizza. Our only complaint was that while the pork was very tender it lacked a good supporting flavor. We'd eaten the crispy, sweet-and-salty "Figgy Pig" pizza on previous visit, and it was also delicious, as expected. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the warm brownie with vanilla bean ice cream was a good recommendation for a dessert to split. The blueberry pomegranate martini was a really hit. We ordered the salmon with couscous, the lobster stuffed orange roughy, and the cioppino. It was all delicious and beautifully presented. The house salad and the warm bread with red pepper butter, wonderful. When the desserts appeared table side we couldn't resist the chocolate mousse and the goat cheese gelato, which was a unique taste treat, and our favorite of the two choices. We were seated promptly at our reservation time.
