Diner Reviews
  • "...But it shouldn't! This is a stand-out seafood (read: OYSTER) joint on an increasingly busy strip of 5th ave. Go! They have the best east coast oysters (especially Long Island/Montauk oysters) in the city: bright, saline and bracingly fresh."

  • "Great oysters. Good drinks. But our server was distracted and forgetful. We had to ask repeatedly for simple things. It felt like he was trying to do everything without ever finishing one thing."

  • "Great place with fun vibe. Food was spectacular- everything we tried was artfully crafted and delicious. I would recommend the lobster deviled eggs!"

  • "Fun and inventive place with unusual small plates."

  • "We came here after being treated like dirt at the John Dory, so the enthusiasm and hospitality of the staff was appreciated. Our waiter was very busy, but he brought our food in a timely manner and let us sample some new wine on the list. Unfortunately, their list was quite small/expensive and they were out of some wine, but we were pleased with what we ultimately ordered. I have pretty high standards for food when I eat out, but this place was casual and has a very tasty double brussels starter and lobster BLT. Thank you!"

  • "Cute lively restaurant with wonderful food. Unfortunately, the service was so slow and poor that it cast a pall over our experience. Since I enjoyed the food and the ambience, I may give it another try with the hope that the problems with their service will be resolved."

  • "Diverse menu of seafood, though the oyster selection was limited at the time of my seating."

  • "I've eaten here four times. The first time the service and food were on point. However, the past three times, the service was not up to par. For example, check your bill carefully because items that we did not order were tacked on; server forgot to put in items for our order; fail to course out our meal properly as promised (everything came out at once); we had to ask for plates. So unfortunate that the subpar service overshadows the food. Hope they figure it out soon."

  • "The food was really good especially with the Blackboard Eats deal. However, service was a little slow that night. It could've been because it was a Friday, but our waitress took a bit of time to get back to us to order. The oysters were great. I had the salad Niçoise, which was really good."

  • "Overall I found the L and W Oyster Co., to be a very nice establishment. The Service was great and the atmosphere was very friendly and energetic. The food was very good. The Montauk Pearls are very good, melt in your mouth oysters. We tried four different selections from the menu and all were very good. The price was very reasonable for a dinner for two. I would recommend friends to try it."

  • "We went here with another couple on a Thursday night and we all had a really good time! The service was on point and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We came here with a Blackboard Eats deal and they happily accommodated it without being awkward, which is always a plus to me. We ordered a couple of platters of oysters, which were super fresh and came with very delicious condiments. The lobster BLT was amazing too! The specialty drinks were very unique and tasty as well, although they are a little pricey. Not too much more than your typical NYC bar. Definitely would go back!"

  • "It was not at all crowded when we arrived moderately busy when we left- didn't really need a reservation. Raw clams were fine. oysters 2 out of six not so good. Lobster BLT ok but homade chips bland and rubbery. Salad Niciose Very disappointing - Under seared white tuna, greens over drenched with dressing no olives or small potatoes- not a Niciose… expensive for such mediocrity. No wonder they didn't participate in Restaraunt week… Kitchen needs a boost"

  • "My colleague and I took a few clients out to lunch that worked in the area. None of them had ever been inside. We showed up early for our 12:30pm reservation and they gladly seated us anyway. It was empty when we arrived and packed by 1PM. The hostess was friendly and checked in on us, the waitress was sweet and accommodating. Our group loved the oysters and ordered all of the ones on the menu. Everyone loved the lobster BLT's and Lobster knuckle sandwiches. We polished off everything including 3 desserts, one which was brought to us free of charge by the chef. We all spoke about how great L&W was and that we most definitely will be returning."

  • "Sat at the bar around 6pm on a Friday night. Loved the 2 way Brussel sprout salad! Was average on the meat sliders. Also there was a slight miscomunication on what was on special for Happy Hour-we ordered a wine that was not on special and would have liked the bartender to have pointed that out before ordering. But they did adjust the bill which was appreciated."

  • "Went for brunch -- creative drinks like a bloody Mary made with maple syrup and Candian Club were fabulous. Oysters were varied, really fresh and cold and came with cocktail sauce and mignonette sauce and egg dishes were just fine though nothing to write home about and seemed a little skimpy. GREAT French press coffee!! Very nice overall."

The server offered to split our items for us....OFFERED....it was incredible....so enjoyable !!!! great hidden neighborhood gem- great liquor selection, great specialty cocktails- and the OYSTER SELECTION is awesome!!!!!"

  • "Don't get me wrong, the oysters were fab, but the non-oyster options were similarly delicious. The seafood chowder was amazing and the fondue was perfect for sharing. Oh, and do yourself a favour, try the cocktails - yum!"

  • "My wife and I have eaten here twice in the past month and absolutely love L&W. The decor is spirited New England crab shack mashed with vintage downtown chic. Small, well stocked bar in front with booths running along the wall and tables in back. Food is outstanding, with modern takes on traditional seafood fare. Fantastic Lobster BLT; spicy barbecue clams (twist on clams casino), fiery Angry Crab cake and succulent oysters. Great beer selection to wash down the homemade cheddar goldfish while you wait for your meal. Service is excellent, friendly and relaxed but attentive. This is definitely one of my current favorites."

  • "I've eaten here many times and the quality is inconsistent. I've had good meals and also soggy un-browned fried fish and uncleaned mussels."

  • "Love this place! Great ambience, great service--- very quiet- just really really nice. a very special place in this neighborhood. very unique menu, but a very laid-back atmosphere-- a favorite!!!!"

  • "Outstanding food &service. Oysters are served with a clockwise list so we knew which ones we eating. The fresh shaved horseradish was a welcome change from the bottled, watery stuff you get elsewhere. The Brussels Sprouts Caesar is one of the most delicious salads I've ever had. I loved it so much I dreamt about it & went for lunch again two days later! The hot chocolate is rich & creamy; it defies normal adjectives. The one downside for me were the Mahi Mahi tacos I shared with my friend. The smell was unpleasant to me. My server noticed as I pushed my plate further & further away. She took my half away & offered me a replacement. They only charged for half an order. That's class; I will be back often. (My friend loved the tacos.)"

  • "This is the 2nd time I've eaten at this place, and I'm glad to see that quality hasn't dropped an iota. Food is delicious. Service is friendly and dependable. Atmosphere is casual and homey (but the booths are tiny). And the name isn't just for show, the oysters here are fresh and terrific."

  • "we want as a group of 6 and had a great time… the oysters where fresh and the beer was cold… a day at the beach NYC style!"

  • "The food was fresh and fun. The menu was interesting and the portions were enough. Share a bit of everything and get the full taste. The service was helpful and present. They helped us share and were knowledgeable about the food and wine."

  • "The food and service were great. Our server helped us make excellent choices. Outstanding Brussels sprouts 2 ways! A must have if you like Brussels sprouts."

  • "Interesting, low key place as most of the staff wore flanels, but all were very friendly and accommodating; somewhat limited menu (only three real entres), but they change every day according to our server. Therefore, what you see on the website should only be viewed as a guide. That being said, they do have several standard items as well, like the oyster's, which were fabulous and at least 4 different varieties."

  • "We're foodies from the hood and we had a great time. Service was fast and friendly. Cocktails were tasty. White wine by the glass could have been a bit colder. - The kusshi oysters while small very delicious, with great sauces. - The lobster deviled eggs were bursting with flavor, but not with lobster flavor, still very good. - Tuna Ranchers were a witty take on jolly ranchers and very tasty. - The shrimp corn dogs were another satisfying appy, yummy comfort food. - We split the Lobster BLT. This lobster was very tender, at just the right warm temperature, in satisfying big pieces, and delicately flavored. The bread was amazing, buttery, crunchy outside, soft inside, slathered with their sriracha aoli, and fantastic bacon. Order it."

  • "We went to L&W for brunch. Their Oysters are pretty good (as one could expect from the name). Food was good, too. I ate the angry crabs benedicts, which made for a nice breakfast. The atmosphere is nice and cosy with little boothes."

  • "We used a blackboard eats deal and had free bloody marys with our excellen brunch this weekend. Though I couldn't eat any more but couldn't resist butternut squash gelato with homemade graham crackers with black pepper. Will certainly be back."
