Kutsher's TribecaThe Catskills Comes to ManhattanI was very curious to see (or should I say "taste") the food at what was, at least in my mind, a tribute to the Jewish mecca of summer resorts known as the Borscht Belt aka, The Catskills. I had the scrambled eggs with lox and onions which was yummy. My one friend had the homemade gefelte fish and it was an entirely different experience from that stuff that comes in a jar. Delicate, flaky and flavorful, served with sliced beets. My other friend said her Reuben was the best she'd ever had. And we all shared the potato latkes; maybe not quite like mom's, but very good nonetheless. The Duck schmaltz fries were another hit. My chopped salad was not as wonderful as it has been previously (they forgot croutons and dressing was not outstanding) and I thought the waiter recommended cheesecake was boring and tasteless, should have skipped dessert when they were out of everything they wanted. Everything. The potato latkes were just perfect- not greasy , very light and delicious..
The pastrami eggroll was also a hit served with a horseradish mustard.
Our favorite main course dishes were the brisket and Romanian steak( skirt steak).
