Kushi Izakaya & Sushi1 of the Best Japanese Restaurants!Excellent food and service!!! I give Kushi my highest recommendation for anyone looking for a taste of Japan.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the visit.Pork belly and pheasant sausage very good! Overall, it was super tasty.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMDC IzakayaDon't go expecting a typical sushi restaurant as it's definitely more of the traditional Japanese "pub" food. The sushi is good but they're known for their bbq items. It makes more sense to order family style because when you order individually, things come out at different times and you must remember exactly what you ordered as the servers don't always remember. And you order many items in order to get enough to eat as each item is small. Therefore, it's pricey. The bbq items were good as was the sushi. Don't need to go back, though.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Great ServiceThe food was delicious and the service was great, but it was too loud in the restaurant. The decor and seating was poorly done. Definitely not a place for a romantic dinner, more like a spot for a couple of friends to have a few drinks, while nibbling on good small bites of food.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought the food, drinks,I thought the food, drinks, and service at Kushi were great! I think the only drawback is that, because of the open indoor grilling, the entire restaurant is smoky. My eyes were tearing by the end of the meal, and everything on my smelled for days. Other than that, I thought it was great!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI love the place, the decorationI love the place, the decoration and layout is really nice, the place have a big tables as well as small ones. We make a reservation because were not sure about how busy will be, but there were plenty of open tables. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The slow grill pork was delicious, my favorite dish was a spicy tuna over sushi rice, simple but amazing. We also try the cold udon noodles with sesame and wakame, which was refreshing and tasty. Service was well-timed and friendly, the waiter help us to navigate the menu and was eager to suggest dishes and help us to choose from there selection of sakes. Overall was a great experience, is was a bit expensive, but for us was a special occasion so we were willing to splurge.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent-quality sushiThe quality of the sushi was great, very fresh. They also had a wide variety of other Japanese dishes that we fantastic as well. One of the specials on the menu was whole, live sea urchin, and it was amazing.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDC's Best Japanese RestaurantKushi has a young, hip vibe. We went on a Saturday night. The restaurant was crowded and very lively. It is fun for groups or a date. We had a window side table with wooden stools near the bar. The sushi and yakitori/kushiyaki (grilled items on a skewer) were both excellent. The service is good but not great; they forgot one of our dishes. I would rate it as the top Japanese restaurant in the DC area. However, it is pricey at over $50 per person with drinks.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMUnfortunately, they removedUnfortunately, they removed the Wagu Beef and Kobi Beef. Those were my two favorite dishes!!!!! Please bring both of them back!!!! Otherwide, the food, service and ambiance out outstanding!!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's hands down the best sushiIt's hands down the best sushi in DC. Great space, great vibe, great food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeI simply love this place! Try to sit at the bar if you can - it's great to watch the food being cooked. Actually this is how we found one of our favorite dishes - the crispy duck thigh - on a previous visit. Don't miss the fried chicken - it is the best I have had in the area.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything I have orderedEverything I have ordered here has been amazing from drinks to food to sushi to dessert! I love this restaurant and will continue to go4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery authentic Japanese izakayaVery authentic Japanese izakaya fare but expensive.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great service andAlways a great service and wonderful food! Great value and a trendy place.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMKushi is one of my favoriteKushi is one of my favorite dinner spots in DC. Great food and great service!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, though you needGreat food, though you need to know how and what to order.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Wednesday dinner with friendsWent to Kushi on a quiet Wednesday night to catch up with some girlfriends. Coming in at 7pm, it was pretty quiet and our waiter was fun and attentive. We started with a round of cocktails -- good but the saki blossom was a bit on the sour side -- and then switch to Kiran on draft. Food wise:
The good:
Spicy tuna roll (one of the best I've had in DC), shrimp tempura roll, pork belly skewers, brussel sprouts, mini chicken bowl
The not-great:
Rice balls
In all I will definitely go back, service was much improved over my last visit. Next time I want to branch out into nigiri sushi as well -- I've heard good things about the white tuna.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMKushi is a great spot. TheKushi is a great spot. The food is so good and there are a ton of different options. The sushi is great, but I like to get things off the wood grill as well. And the sake options are great.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my third visit toThis was my third visit to Kushi and the food as usual was superb. For the first time the service was off--a member of our dining party added another Donburi bowl to their order mid-way through the meal. The bowl never showed up. While the waiter did apologize for the mistake he brought the pork belly skewer to the table instead of the pork belly bowl. Otherwise the experience was great.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMToo many changes in so little timeI've been to Kushi multiple times. I live 2-3 blocks from it so it's a shock to me that they had their renovations to accommodate people and forget about the ambience which adds up a lot in a restaurant's service as well. They removed the sushi bar and squeeze them all in their barbecue spot in their massive kitchen. I missed their wide variety of sushi. Don't get me wrong but their food is still awesome. They added some but removed a lot though.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your ordinary sushi placeNot your ordinary sushi place and thats a great thing! Sashimi, seaweed salad, skewers . . . . All fantastic!. We were there for a business lunch and our sever handled everything perfectly.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
