A word from Kunkel's Seafood & Steakhouse
The Kunkel family was introduced to the restaurant business in 1979, when Carol & John purchased a well established luncheonette located on Kings Highway in Audubon, called Del"s Luncheonette. The family lived above the business and our children were exposed to the restaurant business at a very early age. Family has always been one of the key ingredients to our success in every restaurant that we have owned or have operated since then.
The feel of family is evident throughout Kunkel's, from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted by Carol, all the way to the kitchen where son Justin is preparing some of our great meals. You feel at home in our cozy dining room featuring two fireplaces and mahogany and painted woodwork throughout, which was designed and built by John. You will also find daughter's Rachel and Tereze occasionally serving our guests, as well as son-n-law Jim overindulging on pasta on Tuesday nights.

  • "The dinner was very good. We were the first to arrive at 5:30 on a Friday night but the place was half full when we left. My only complaint was that my husband got the beef short ribs and there were 3 very small ribs on his plate with mashed potatoes. Not enough for a meal nor for the money!"

  • "As always, the food was delicious. Steaks were perfectly grilled and crabcakes were moist and packed with crabmeat. Service, for some reason, was agonizingly slow, and our server not very attentive, which is the opposite of the usual dining experience here. An off night, maybe?"

  • "Mu husband and I received a gift certificate to this restaurant for Christmas. We finally had a free night together to visit for the first time. The atmosphere was serene and relaxed. The service was friendly and not rushed. The food was spot on. We shared the Bruschetta appetizer (since he doesn't eat seafood, and that was the only non-seafood appetizer.) I had a cup of their home made crab bisque: it was creamy and decadent. For dinner: he had the Filet Mignon (Kunkel Love style) and was cooked perfectly to his satisfaction. I had the fork tender, delicious braised beef short ribs. We finished the night with espresso drinks and I treated myself to their homemade tiramisu. It's a great, quiet BYO. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "We dined at Kunkels on Tuesday night for Farm to Fork week. From the moment we walked in we had a great experience. We were greeted immediately in a very friendly manor, shown to our seats and our waitress, Maureen was right with us. Its a BYOB but they do offer Sharroit Wines by the bottle, and being one of my FAVORITE local wineries, we purchased a bottle for dinner. The 4 course meal with AWESOME! Maureen provided top notch service. I had chicken with mushrooms in a cream sauce and it was to die for! I hope its on their normal menu because I want to go back again! After dinner we enjoyed coffee and chatted with our waitress and the women who sat us (who i would venture to guess was the owner). It was an overall great night!"

  • "This restaurant ha been on my list if places to visit for quite some time, I don't think I'd visit gain. Our service wa great, our waiters was knowledgeable and friendly, but our food was unremarkable. I ordered the homemade pasta with lump crab in a white garlic sauce. The pieces of crab were nice, but overall the dish was bland. Our wine was fantastic, you can buy Sharrot winery wines by the bottle. Our bill was $78 for two entrees and a bottle if wine, just a little more than open table suggests. Most dishes are just over $30. Overall, I'd say if you want to give it a shot don't order the pasta. It was very warm in the restaurant. Perhaps we just visited on a bad day temp wise but I couldn't wait to get out of there."

  • "We had a relaxed and delicious dinner Friday night. A friend was visiting from out of town and loved the teriyaki grouper. My crab cakes were the tastiest I've ever had outside of Baltimore! I'll be going back for more and trying the lunch and brunch menus."

  • "It was a nice quaint place and clean and friendly but As far as the food: Our appetizers were good, (shrimp cocktail and clams) however the shrimp could have been cleaner the salads were just ok but lousy choice of dressings to pick from (3) but our steaks were just awful! When I pay 36.00 for a steak it should not have fat and grissle and be chewey and hard to cut my husbands was good around the outside but dry in the middle! We have had better curs of steaks at outback for way less money! We had heard good reviews so wanted to try it but we were very disappointed and we had went to celebrate our 30th anniversary! It ruined our night! We will not be going back!!"

  • "This is my first time coming here, as it is about 45 minutes away from me. The food was good, old school steak and fish fare. I had the crabcakes (big, breaded and fried with little filler) and my friend had a steak special. Very quiet on a Tuesday night. Interesting that this is a BYOB place--it has a full bar to sit at, but no liquor. (I believe they can sell bottles of Sharrott, a local NJ Winery)."

  • "My wife and I have been dining at Kunkel's or many years and they have consistently had the most tender and flavorful filet au poivre anywhere in the country. The one thing that separates good restaurants from great restaurants is consistency. This family owned and run restaurant has some of the best steaks and seafood in the area, with creative preparations across the board. One of my favorite starters is their Johnny's Wedge. It's their creative spin on the Iceberg wedge salad that most steakhouses have, only better. Even the bread in the bread basket is some of the tastiest around and served warm with an olive oil and balsamic dipping blend. Friendly and personal service adds to the total experience."

I had the tempura grouper which was quite tasty, but a little on the spicy side. The service was good, and the ambiance of the room in which we were seated was quite nice. We had a very enjoyable meal. We brought our own wine, so this cut down on the total price of the meal. We definitely would go back again."

  • "Kunkels is the best kept secret in Haddon Heights, NJ. We invited our relatives to dine with us and we had a lovely time. Half of us ordered steaks, which were cooked to perfection and delicious, and the other half tried the neighbor night out menu and tried the burgers, best burgers we have ever had, and reasonably priced. I was the lone holdout, and ordered a chicken caesar salad with the homemade dressing and this was delightful, the chicken was cooked to perfection and the dressing was out of this world. I will always pick Kunkels Seafood and Steak House for our family dining. I told our bookkeeper at work about it and her and her fiance went, and had a fabulous time. I will keep going and recommending it to friends. Its the BEST"

  • "This is a really nice place with terrific food. Went for an early Mother's Day dinner. Got the filet Mignon and it was a generous cut, cooked perfectly. Another in the party got the rib eye which appeared tough. Salads are good with nice choice of dressings. The house wine list is sub standard but that is not their fault. The wines are from NJ in a program that allows eateries to sell NJ wines to promote the state's wineries. They have a looooooong way to go. This is a place where you can bring your own wine and I forgot to do so. "

  • "I let my 11 year old step daughter pick a place for dinner and she picked a gem. We ate outside on a great night. Service was spectacular. Chris was wonderful! My ribeye was perfect. The calamari was perfect. Her lobster tail melted in her mouth. We had no room for dessert so we will have no choice but to happily return!"

  • "Kunkel's Seafood and Steakhouse is our FAVORITE restaurant and Saturday night we once again found out why. We arrived for our reservation at 6pm and were seated promptly. We had a lovely table by the fireplace in the front room, it had a very nice ambience. We purchased a really nice bottle of wine and then ordered our meal. We had steamers in red sauce the best we have ever had, and you need tons of bread to enjoy the fantastic sauce. We then got our meal two fabulous filets cooked to perfection, baked potatoes, and mixed vegetables, who could ask for anything more. Then came DESSERT - the CHOCOLATE CAKE FOR TWO - Oh My Gosh it was mouth watering. I cannot say enough about the service it was great!!! Thanks Kunkels"

  • "I really wanted to like this place. My party of 6 ordered steaks. 2 fillets, 2 NY strip, and 2 ribeye. All were bland. Honestly no flavor or seasoning at all. So disappointing. The restaurant was nice, the service was good in the beginning but then as tables started to come in our waitress disappeared. The salad was good but the balsamic dressing was entirely too sweet. Such a shame."

  • "When I want ambiance, delicious food and a 'special' place to dine, I think of Kunkel's. It is on the top of my 'favorite' list. Carol, Chris and the staff are always a delight as the wiz around the dining room making certain all their guests needs are met. It is the 'go to' place for special occasions or for just an impromptu lunch. I used the website to make my reservation for a birthday celebration, party of 7 last week and it worked very well. I will use that service again for future parties."

  • "So we thought it was restaurant week, we were a day early. Not a problem. Started with the Johnny salad, a wedge salad, great blue cheese and the restaurants own dressing, almost a thouisand island- russian, but lighter. The filet with the kunkel love was cooked to perfection, albeit the sauce was too peppery for my taste but I still managed to finish all. The salmon, teryaki and bok cho was also cooked perfectly. The waiter however failed to ask if we were interested in dessert. We weren't, but.... he should have asked anyway. All in all another good dining experience."

  • "Well done! We dined at Kunkel's during Restaurant Week and will certainly dine there again. The overall experience was wonderful. Our server, Sarah, was terrific. The mussels fra diablo alone were worth the price of admission. And the sun roasted tomato soup was hands down one of the best soups I've ever had (and I don't like tomato soup!). The entrees (grouper and salmon cakes) were equally delicious. And the hazelnut cake! I just can't say enough about the entire meal. Excellent!"

  • "I ordered the grouper. It did not taste extremely fresh but had a fishy taste when it should have been mild. I've never had grouper, but everyone tells me it's very mild tasting. All sides we had were excellent. The haricot verts were cooked perfectly. The bread pudding and hazelnut cake were both excellent. The wedge salad was served with bacon, also a great choice."

  • "We ate there and it was just ok, one of the steaks had to go back as not cooked to order YOUR A STEAK HOUSE, also some food was not hot but arrived warm. Service was spotty. Over all it was ok but here is the kicker, I made a reservation for Easter dinner which was accepted and they wait till the Wednesday before Easter to tell us they are not open Easter. The owner's wife made some lame excuse to my husband but really is this how to do business! Don't think we will be back as there are many very good well run places around."

  • "What a great place! There were six of us and we all had a great time. We were seated at the "chef's table," and it was nice and private. Our appetizers were delish as well as our meals, and the desserts were fab! They have a variety of food for every palette. The workers were very pleasant and attentive and the atmosphere was warm and comforting. I would definitely go back and recommend to anyone!"

  • "Although the place was nice, and the waitress was very friendly, there were a few issues; First, the hostess was rude to my wife when we identified we were there. We were 15 minutes early, and the hostess made a comment about us being early, based on her facial experssion, she wasn't happy about it. Next, I ordered a soup as my first course. The soup never arrived, my wifes appetizer did, as well as the salads, but not my soup. Finally, I ordered the Filet Mignon, it was the first Filet Mignon that I was ever served that had FAT in it. As a rule, I never return my food, and typically don't comment to the help unless it is not eatable. In this case, the meat I was served was ok, but it could not have been Filet Mignon."

  • "Try to request seating near one of the fireplaces. Very romantic. Although the tables were quite full, the noise level was still intimate. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable; the food is outstanding - the oysters are amazing! Meals can be adjusted for special requests, but is normally not necessary since everything is flavorful. BYOB and be prepared for a wonderful dining experience."
