Excellent local classic. Bolognese is quite good. Service is very professional, reservations highly recommended. Can't go wrong here. Food well executed and nice menu though not radical or cutting edge if you are looking for that. Located just of Union Square, very easy to find. Have been here several times over the decades, always a positive experience.

For the price we paid, and ambience we expected, the seating was poor. There was an elevated bar, with railing next to it and sits after the railing.. people were walking around the bar area, standing there, servers walking up and down. and other side is asmall lane.. over all the seat was quite horribl.e

Through the years I have visited San Francisco many times for pleasure and with every visit I have dined at Kuleto's. It was recommended by a business associate. This restaurant continues its high quality of food and ambiance. I ordered one of the specials, halibut. It was nicely prepared and cooked just right. I look forward to my next visit to San Francisco and Kuleto's.

We used to love dining here whenever we visited. But we wont be going back ever again. The food was way over salted and the service pathetic. We think there was an ownership change and the new owners have ruined the place. If by union square go elsewhere.

Sorry to say but the quality of the food here is just not what it used to be but the price keeps going up. I had the Halibut special, perhaps the portion was 3 oz, overly dry and salty. All I tasted was salt. The service was wonderful. The bread basket - something we looked forward too also seemed a bit stale.

Presentation of food was fine, quality of food was good but not distinguished - just average, but one would expect far more from this iconic SF restaurant & at these price points. Our waiter was not the most professional - friendly but disappeared for long periods, didn't clear the table between courses, or stay aware of wine needs - which is puzzling since this boosts profits and tip levels. Too many other options to bother going back.

We were celebrating a friends 50th birthday. It was great. The food was excellent and the waiter brought out a nice free desert for the birthday gal. I have been going to this place for many years and whenever I am in san francisco in this area it is my go to place. I also was impressed that one of the Bar tenders was still there after all these years..shows what kind of place it is if they can keep their staff happy..

Kuleto's is one of those places that you always want to return to. The food is great and the wait staff is attentive but not overly so. The only negatives I could possibly come up with are that they share restrooms with the hotel next door, which is a little inconvenient and the booths near the front (which are very comfortable) are noisy because of their proximity to the bar.

Really disapointed!!!! had a 6pm reservation for 6pm. The restaurant was less than half full. When seated we waited for 20 minutes before we stopped a bus boy to find our waiter. And. when the waiter finally showed, he couldn't have cared less about our experience. Once he took our drink orders he disappeared again and it took 20 minutes more to get 4 glasses of wine... Waiter had zero personality and made us feel he was doing us a favor. Waited for our food for another 40 minutes... Outrageous.... When we finally asked where our orders were.. (another waiter, our was MIA) he responded that their were three orders ahead of ours... The experience ruined our evening. This restaurant need serious management.. What a disgrace...

Kuleto's has been always on our list for which to visit and dine at. What a wonderful surprise that the food was amazingly fresh, right from the orchard and farm from the olive oil to the salad and the entrées. It was our 8th wedding anniversary that they treated us like GOLD. Love it, great night, and will be back.

We enjoyed our pre-matinee lunch, as always. However, our waiter was less than friendly or attentive. He often neglected requests and seemed annoyed. This is unusual for Kuleto's but it seemed to early in the day for this kind of aloofness on the part of the waiter.

Our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated immediately. They had some lovely specials but we had salad, minestrone soup (which was excellent) short ribs and veal scaloppini. All dishes were very nice. It got busy as time went on but we never felt hurried. Felt we could stay as long as we want. Location of course is great!! This is an excellent upscale California/Italian downtown restaurant. The physical aspect of the restaurant is good, the food is flavorful and rich. The service as the first two diners for lunch, was excellent. On the basis of a business lunch, I'm going back. The wife looked at the menu and said, " A little too California/Italian fusion and we went elsewhere that evening, but we'll go back again on my call. Especially if they remove the snivel about the surcharge for providing employee benefits to the staff. Expensive, but totally appropriate given the neighborhood.

I went to Kuleto with my husband for dinner. He ordered the duck breast and I had the shrimp and scallop risotto. The duck breast was very tender and delicious. Sadly, the risotto was mediocre. The rice didn't seem to be well cooked since it was still hard, but the shrimp and scallop was pretty good. We ordered cherry cream brulee for dessert. Upon trying it, I noticed that the cherry is missing, so I asked the waiter. He told me that it's not cherry season anymore, so they ran out of it. Instead he served us a regular cream brulee. I wasn't really happy about that. He could have told us at the time when we ordered it and not after being asked. I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew I was gonna get a regular cream brulee.

Went on a saturday w/ 2 teenagers and & mom. Saturday night reservation was honored on time. We were seated and bread immediately arrived. Apps and drinks ordered efficiently and the waiter was quite friendly and attentive. We had fried calamari (standard - but good, with batter not too oily) followed by house pasta (my duck ragout was very good and the older girls fresh tomato-based sauce had several plump plum tomatoes well cooked - meaning still firm on the outside and gushy on the inside). We could have lingered longer, but with kids, at the end of a long day - we were in and out in <1 hour. It looks like the main room has smaller more intimate tables - but for what we wanted, we were well fed and well attended to.
