Diner Reviews
  • "We've dined at Kuleto's on many occasions while in the City and have never been disappointed. From the bread basket to dessert we know we will be enjoying a quality meal. Kudos to Kuleto's!"

  • "Typically, I enjoy the food at Kuleto's. This time, I was disappointed. My spinach salad was bland and the sole was very salty. I love the atmosphere in the restaurant and the service is fantastic. Maybe, it was just an off day for the kitchen."

  • "As often as we have dined at Kuleto's it never fails to surprise us by providing delicious and deeply satisfying food, impeccable service and an atmosphere of elegance and of great comfort. It is so very close to the American Conservatory Theatre that it has become a natural for us to reserve for dinner there before our theatre outings. Kuleto's has become one of our very favorites in The City."

  • "The food was excellent. My daughter and I had the risotto for lunch. It was the best risotto I have ever had. Our waiter was also wonderful. A truly wonderful experience."

  • "Last night in San Francisco and found this great Italian restaurant around the corner from where we were staying. Service and food top notch!"

  • "Overall the recommendations by the waiter were excellent and the presentations were very good. My sea scallop was a tad on the rare side but it was a big one and the chef chose to err on the side of caution so no foul. Highly recommend for their Italian offerings."

  • "My steak was cooked exactly as I requested, and the service was very good. The glasses of wine that I tried, 1 white and 1 red, were very good and went well with the meal."

  • "We enjoyed returning for our regular before ACT lunch! Kuleto's has now become our "GO to" before our regular Wednesday ACT matinees."

  • "I love Kuleto's and try to eat there whenever I am in SF. The food is consistently good and their wine list is deep and solid quality. We ate in the main dining room (adjacent to the Hotel Villa Floence, separated by windows). It's a great open room, with a perfect noise level. Not too quiet, not too loud with great energy. Once our waiter knew that we were in no rush, he backed off his early frequent vists, and just let us enjoy our conversation. Highly recommend for a business dinner."

  • "This is a fantastic lunch venue, I wish I had the opportunity to eat here for dinner. The appetizer gnocci was fantastic. Perfect little pillows. The waiter was attentive, but not imposing. He also recommended a good glass of wine to go with the food I had selected."

  • "Kuleto's was a very pleasant surprise consisting of GREAT food, good service and fantastic ambiance! The service was fast and efficient. Once we told the server that we had to be in and out within the hour because of a show we needed to attend, the server did her best to get our order and food to us as soon as possible. The location is in the heart of Union Square which offers high tourist traffic so we were a bit skeptical about the quality of food. However, the food was amazingly delicious! The Sole was the tastiest and freshest fish I've had and the Pasta Bolognese was very flavorful with handmade pasta! An wonderful restaurant that we will visit again!"

  • "My friend & I were in The City to see Macy's Flower Show on Saturday & decided to try Kuleto's Prix Fixe Meal offering for lunch. It was great, consisting of a fresh greens salad, a salmon entrée (a pasta entrée was also available) and dessert. The service was attentive & our dining experience was most enjoyable."

  • "We have been to Kuletos a few times before but it had been a while. Now we remember why it had been a while. The ambiance is great and the food is very good. The problem is the portions are tiny! It was all delicious but my husband and I could have eaten another meal easily! Lesson learned:don't go to Kuletos starving unless you plan to spend extra on more food! Our dinner was a appetizer each, a coule glasses of wine, shared a salad, and each a meal and it was over $200! On top of it, our main course took 45 to come out causing us to be late to our event. Sorry, we wont be back."

  • "This restaurant was spectacular. The food was reasonably priced for the level of quality. The atmosphere was very calm and upscale, but not stuffy. The lighting set the mood very well."

  • "We had dinner following a theater matinee performance; Kuleto's location is handy to the theater district. We started with the beet/arugula salad, a favorite of ours & it was delicious. A nice basket of assorted fresh breads accompanied our meal. I ordered the duck entrée off of the March menu & my husband ordered the sole. Both entrees were very good & quantities were generous. We splurged on a nice bottle of chard to round out our dining experience. The service was attentive. Overall we enjoyed a very nice dining experience at Kuleto's."

  • "Fifth time we have eaten there when in San Francisco. Never disappointed! Great food and service. We were in SF 4 days and thought it was our best meal. The short ribs and calamari were both great. You really feel like you are in SF at this one."

  • "When to celebrate with a friend and it was quite nice. The service was very good and the food was great. What stood out was the fact that we were able to stay and linger over our meal without being interrupted until we chose to leave. We will be back!!"

  • "We had a good mael at Kuletos. Not great but good. The service was great. Waiter very attentive. We were attending the theatre at 8 and service was fast and efficient. Great spot for pre theater meal."

  • "We enjoyed the restaurant and the service was very good; however the noise level was very high.. We would have liked a table out of the way of traffic since we had made reservations. I have an allergy to milk and the chef was good enough to prepare a meal for me that was different and without milk products. It wasn't just the vegetarian alternative what I often get. I was truly gourmet."

  • "I have been eating excellent authentic Italian food for years and I was after something good during my interstate visit to San Francisco recently. Kuleto didn't disappoint. Good combination of flavour, flair and presentation won the evening for me."

  • "My guest and i celebrated a quiet pre-birthday after symphony and both enjoyed pastas and pinot noirs. Good service, glad to be asked re water rather than just served it automatically. Too full for dessert, though they looked delish. Very fine evening. Thanks."

  • "I've loved Kuleto's for years but this was disappointing. Special pasta was cool, fish okay but nothing to write home about, mediocre service. Sad."

  • "Kuleto's has survived so many ups and downs of the San Francisco restaurant scene, and continues to serve delicious food and drink that is current, generous, and relatively affordable. We have been coming to dine here for nearly 30 years (can that be correct?), and have rarely been disappointed-- sit at the counter and watch the line chefs for entertainment, cosy up to the fireplace for a romantic get away, or just enjoy the booths for an old-style SF restaurant feel. Good Italian, good fish, good wine, good olive oil, good bread. And at times, amazing roasts and pastas."

  • "Amazing service & great food. Couldn't ask for much more than that! Champagne was delicious. Had the salmon ravioli & it was amazing. Only issue was the group that sat behind us. Very loud and obnoxious but that's the not the fault of the restaurant. I will definitely be coming back."

  • "We had dinner before attending an evening performance of Napoli! at ACT. Kuleto's had a special Neopolitan menu to correspond with the play's theme. Our waiter was perfect. He paced our courses so we had a relaxed dining experience with excellent food and got to the theater on time."

  • "We are a group of 5 ladies with ACT season tickets. We've become disenchanted with our regular meeting place and decided to try Kuleto's. Though worried a little about some iffy reviews, we took the plunge. The meal was delicious (4 of us had the crab salad over polenta)!!! Will order it again. The service was perfect, and we were able to hear each other as we chatted. A little pricey, but well worth it. Can't wait to come back. 5 stars for Kuleto's!"

  • "The meal was absolutely wonderful and paired well with the wine i brought. The salmon was awesome. The problem was the server. I ordered a gibson before dinner and wasnt asked on the rocks or striaght up. Plates were being cleared before completion and our glasses went dry. i guess high expectations for a union square restaurant? Again - the food was incredible!"

  • "Tired menu and food prep. Tired atmosphere. Weak drinks. Time to remodel, rehab and recharge. It's the 21st Century."

  • "We've always enjoyed this restaurant. This time we invited two guests for a celebratory lunch. We had such a wonderful time that we were at the restaurant for two hours, and no one asked us to leave. The food was delicious, and the service excellent."

  • "As we were going to A.C.T. the excellent service was appreciated. My Salmon dish on squash risotto was a little bland in spitting of lemon aiole. My husbands seafood risotto was much tastier. The seating felt crowded and unless we ciuld have more room I don't wish to return."

  • "This is an oasis of quiet elegance and fine Italian cuisine amid the bustle of Powell Street. The cheese polenta was perfectly smooth, sweet, and rich. Never had anything quite like it! Duck strips were tender. Ahi tuna as an antipasto was nicely mixed with tomato and well seasoned. My daughter and I shared a dessert of ice cream topped with espresso. As it happens, we've been there before and will certainly dine there again when in San Francisco."

  • "Five of us had lunch at Kuleto's recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Two had the prix fixe menu, one a hamburger, one a large (!) salad, and another the grilled radicchio. All were really good, though we had to admit we were having such fun being together that we didn't focus on the food. The large, round tables at Kuleto's are so comfortable for groups that it's my go-to place for such events. We saw an oval table of 10 women, and all could converse. Their conversation, amazingly, did not impinge on ours. How do they control the acoustics so well? Kuleto's is a treat, especially for groups."
