  • "I had been wanting to try Kris Bistro and Wine Lounge for months. I'm so glad we finally went. What a great place. The food was really good and the presentation was very nice. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the wine list. Pricing was very reasonable as well. I will definitely be back with a larger group. They also have a great little area called the Chef's Table that can be curtained off for private events/dining. Something I'd love to try! Some students were in the kitchen preparing dishes for a "presentation" grade we were told by our waitress. It was really fun to watch them work."

  • "BEST hidden secret in Houston. Inside the Culinary Institute, you will find an amazing restaurant. Ambiance is polished and inviting. Plates are innovative and the mix of flavors are balanced very carefully. Kris does a stellar job. Waiters are students at the Institute and highly educated in the menu. Recommendations are always good. Will keep coming back again and introducing it to friends and business associates. Order the smoked duck to go!! Excellent with a good wine on a romantic evening at home. "

  • "This was our second time here and they hit on the bull's eye again. Yes, the location is NOT in the middle of Westheimer, but I find it darn easy to find for those of us living on I45 (Woodlands or Clear Lake) or Loop 610 (Bellaire). Take a hard right coming off the first I45 exit going north from the North Loop. You are there! The wine list is awesome and affordable (not your 300-400% makeup). We had a Gevray-Chambertin Burgandy for $60-$70. I had snapper that was cooked to perfection. All the dishes including the deserts were of great presentation and taste. The students and faculty that put this together will someday put Houston on the foody map. This dinner would compare to some of our best experiences in Seattle and Paris."

  • "We had a great meal at the Kris Bistro. Chef had just started trying out some items for the spring menu, so we both chose bright, citrusy seafood meal options. Both the salmon and the scallops were cooked to perfection The dessert however (trio of crème brulee) was not much to write home about - the crèmes were quite dense and tasted overcooked."

  • "Not being my first time at Kris Bistro, it was proved once again why this restaurant is on my top list of excellent places to go in Houston. The staff is very professional, friendly, provides "spot on" recommendations (food and complementing beverages); the food is quite eclectic and full of surprises, and the the price-quality ratio is probably the best in Houston. The fact that the restaurant is located inside a culinary school brightens the mystique and it's very well decorated. Fantastic either for romantic, business or group events. I live on the other side of the Atlantic, but when I travel to Houston it's mandatory to pay a visit to Kris Bistro!"

  • "Arrived midweek for a Birthday dinner with my wife. It was pretty quiet but the staff and waiters were excellent. Ordered a bottle of wine and then the waiter asked if we wanted to take a look around the kitchen. We met two chefs who went into great detail about what they were cooking. We sat down and eat a wonderful meal. What a fantastic evening."

  • "This was another great experience at Kris Bistro. Our server, CJ, was friendly and knowledgeable. If you like crab and they have the Gulf Crab Sphere on the menu, get it! We were going to split one and CJ recommended getting two. Very glad that he did. I'm from Maryland and this blew most crab cakes I had had back home out of the water. The Poele Black Sea Bass & Cured Smoked Escolar was so good that I want to go back before they change their menu for the next season and have it again. It was one of the most perfectly balanced and satisfying fish dishes I've ever had. If you enjoy innovative cuisine, give Kris Bistro a try."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the Mardi Gras food/beer pairing event hosted by No Label Brewery. The menu was spectacular as well as authentic and the beer was perfectly paired. Almost made me feel like I was home in Louisiana - or as close as possible :)"

  • "Go here! This is an amazing opportunity to enjoy amazing food, thoughtfully sourced, with incredible wines at rock bottom prices! Everything we ate was amazing! Kris is located inside the culinary institute. This would be a phenomenal location for a special group dinner - a true chefs table experience. All of the food was extremely fresh and full of interesting flavors. We will go back!!"

  • "An excellent dining establishment tucked away in a culinary school??? Who would have thought that was a secret to a successful restaurant. Amazing menu and a wine list that is actually FAIR in price and awesome in selection! Will certainly return. Service was better than I scored. Our situation was we needed to make a symphony date at 8:00 and the waiter was very chatty when he could have been working. I would have given him more points there but I told him we were on a tight timeframe. We arrived at 6:15 We made the 8:00 curtain by 2 minutes! Not the best area of town but just fine given that they have a gated parking lot with security guard at the door my date and I felt VERY safe."

  • "We LOVE Kris Bistro! My husband and I went most recently for the special Valentine's Day dinner. It was superb! The food was perfection in taste and presentation, and as always, was a tremendous bargain considering the quality. Our waiter assisted us in selection of a wonderful bottle of wine to pair with our meal that did not have a price tag to break the bank either. Our only complaint this time around was that service was a bit slow. Because this dinner had set services at 5:30 and 8:30 only, I think the kitchen got overwhelmed and backed up for entrees, as they rather trickled out. But, we didn't mind as it was a special dinner, and we knew that special care was being taken with each plate. We will be back again and again."

  • "We did lunch on Valentine's Day because we have been most disappointed with overbooking and less than stellar food on Valentine's evening meals at "named" restaurants in the past. Kris was lovely. The food was stellar and the service attentive and knowledgable. It is aways fun to watch the preparations going on in the kitchen."

  • "The food at Kris's was excellent. The menu isn't too extensive which always helps me narrow down a selection. The service was wonderful, as well. The only complaint I have is that the tables are very close together which takes the romance factor down a notch since we had to practically whisper the whole time so as not to impose on our neighbors conversation."

  • "Went for the Valentine Special. The Oysters Martinique were outstanding. Crab cake balls were also outstanding. This restaurant is a nice little diamond in the rough."

  • "The food was fantastic! Flavors blended together well. Although the place was packed, somehow we felt as though we were in a small intimate place where the serving staff were knowledgable and present at just the right moments."

  • "Thus restaurant would be impossible to stumble upon driving past it as it's inside a culinary school. But font let that discourage you. Your meal is prepared by alumni of the school and they know what they are doing. The food is first class and the atmosphere is lovely."

  • "We went on a Tuesday evening for a birthday. There was only one other table that night. Service was great since nobody was there. I think this is more of a weekend kind of place. Food was very nice. However, steak frite fries were cold. Endive salad had a weird texture - only dish that was off."

  • "We have finally found a eating establishment that can be considered a top class restaurant. I thought I had left my taste buds in France, before i went here. The food is absolutely delicious, the combinations were wonderful, and the service exceptional. The interest that the waitress had in the food was inspiring. There is real food passion here. We live North of Houston and I am overjoyed that I will never have to eat at the overpriced nonsense restaurants in The Woodlands again. We went to Kris as an early Valentines day treat. Allow me be your cupid. If you really love someone and want that someone to be your Valentine, forget about, gimmicky gifts and expensive flowers, take them to Kris and and they will never forget it."

  • "We had been to other restaurants for wine pairing dinners but Kris Bistro pulled out all the stops showing off Chef Chris' exquisite French cuisine. The delectable 4-course meal was paired with Louis Bernard Wines: Chateau Noel Saint Laurent 2011, Luberon 2007, Cotes du Rhone 2011, Cotes du Rhone Villages 2010 as well as Chateauneuf due Pape 2010 were featured. Smoked seared tuna and escolar, an antipasti of 2-yr. cured Mangalistsa ham, a Schiacciata pizza, braised oxtail bolognese lasagna in béchamel sauce and excellent cheese course were all superbly presented. We would highly recommend Kris Bistro for any dinner but this particular wine pairing dinner was truly a memorable event. Our deepest appreciation to Culinary Institute LeNotre!"

  • "This was my second visit and it did not disappoint! Fantastic food and service in a very comfortable setting. I tried the new appetizer "Herring salad" and it was delicious. Our group of 8 had nothing but praises for the food, wine and staff. Between the 8 of us we tried most of the items on the menu and I saw nothing but clean plates go back out.. I can't wait for my next opportunity to visit Kris Bistro."

  • "This was our second time at Kris Bistro. The food is simply amazing, it is a dining experience. I tried to talk myself into something different, but I had scallops again. They are too good to pass up. Very reasonable priced. I would definitely recommend and we will be back."

  • "Four of us tried Kris Bistro and found the food and staff to be outstanding. Beautiful food presentation and wonderful flavors. Staff was friendly, and with our encouragement, enthusiastically explained interesting details of the food, the Institute and French language and cuisine. The escargot shooters were unique and amazing. Both food and wine were values for the prices."

  • "This was our second time at Kris Bistro and it was fabulous! We attended the special "Champagne and Sparkling Wine Dinner" and it was superb from beginning to the end! From the exquisite hors d'oeuvres over the sweet bread piccata (what a nice surprise to learn that sweet bread had nothing to do with bread, but represented one of our favourite foods from back home: kalfszwezerikken - ris de veau!! ), delicious foie gras and then lobster! All of our favourite things served with some very nice sparkling wines, a real feast! Thank you very much, Kris Bistro, for being here in Houston! We will definitely be back! It's the best restaurant for French (Belgian!) cuisine in Houston for a very reasonable price! We love you!!!"

  • "Service at Kris Bistro is always faultless. Their bread (warm, crispy, rustic, flavorful) and butter (yes, real butter served at spreadable temperature) is irresistible. The bread has no sugar added which is a big plus!! The menu is varied - beef, poultry, fish and sometimes vegetarian - combinations and accompaniments are always interesting and everything beautifully presented. The portions are very small, however, but you can always have more bread:) Pricing is mid range but food quality is higher range. Although the location is not great and you are indoors under artificial light, I always leave feeling I have been somewhere special and enjoyed a real treat."

  • "My husband and I have been to Kris' a few times before, and it has always been fantastic. Great wine selection and prices...The food and service can't be beat! We recently brought our 2 children for an early dinner, and the entire team at Kris' made it a great event. The kids were allowed to ask questions about the menu and meet Chef Kris. Bev, the pastry chef, allowed the kids to assist with their dessert preparation. It was a great experience for the whole family; we can't wait to go back!"

  • "Very pleasantly surprised with Kris. The restaurant is like a movie set situated within a culinary school where the diner views the teaching kitchens while enjoying a great dining experience. The staff is very attentive and knowledgable of the menu and wine pairings and the food was amazing from the hand made foie gras to the veal medallions and freshly baked bread. The prices are noticeably low for what is offered. We will definitely be back."

  • "This place is a hidden gem. The neighborhood is not where you would expect to find such a place. I never thought it would be so good. Great service, and the food is outstanding! I was very pleased over all. I will be returning, without a doubt!"

  • "This restaurant in the middle of Le Notre Culinary Institute will charm you. The restaurant allows the culinary students gain valuable experience running a restaurant but you'd never guess they are students (except that they are more enthusiastic than most restaurant workers). Everyone there is enthusiastic and happy to have you there. Recipes are complex and beautifully executed. The wine list is an incredible value, as is the food. You have the option of choosing any appetizer, entrée and dessert for $34...an incredible value considering dishes such as fantastic tartar, mussels, sous vide short ribs with ale reduction, trio of crème brulee. It is just a lovely restaurant. Can't wait to go back!"
