Diner Reviews
  • "This was my second visit to Kona Grill and it was good, but not as good as my first visit. Worried that they are slipping. Restaurant was also not busy. Not sure if it was due to Easter weekend?"

  • "Was our first time and here is how it went: 1. We pulled up and the comp valet parking guy immediately took our car, no waiting 2. We walked in and they immediately honored our reservation and took us to our table 4. Water and starters immediately taken care of - fast and efficient service 5. Waiter came and quickly took order, made good suggestions 6. Food arrived in timely manner, hot, well prepared and very tasty 7. Price is very reasonable for such a classy place - great atmosphere inside and out 8. Took our check but did not hurry us to leave, lingered over Lattes and desserts 9. Took our valet tag and car was waiting for us when we went outside All in all an outstanding experience. "

  • "Friends wanted to take us for dinner and I suggested Kona Grill as I had previously had lunch there and enjoyed it. The décor and ambience is excellent. However on the evening we were there, the food was less than stellar. Letuuce wraps had little flavor and the potstickers were so-so. My shrimp penne was good but my husbands jambalaya was so spicy it was nearly intolerable. I did not hear our friends rave about their dishes. This was followed up by a cup of stale , re heated, lukewarm decaf coffee. I felt badly that our friends paid the bill for food that was mediocre at best."

  • "Food was delicious and so much to choose from!! Great, friendly service too."

  • "Looking for a place around the woodlands with good sushi that won't break your bank account? This would be my go-to."

  • "Two visits. Service great on first: not so great on 2nd. Food well presented. Flavor not so great either trip. Somewhat overpriced relative to quality & service. Mixed drinks good. Would recommend, but with some reservation."

  • "Service was awesome, good gluten free menu, noise level can get a little high. Food was good, nice presentation. Upscale setting with outdoor seating. Will be back!! Manager stopped at our table and chatted for a while. Staff seemed genuinely wanting to make sure we were happy. We will be back!!"

  • "Made a reservation through the opentable app. Restaurant had our reservation but forgot to give us our points. This was corrected but not a positive way to start. The waiter was very slow greeting us and the manager had to come apologize for his lack of attention. The waiter was nice but extremely slow as we were dining on our lunch hour. Service seemed to get worse as the section became more crowded. Waiter didn't get the order exactly right as we request fries instead of chips. The food overall was good but not what we expected for the money we spent. We did not try the sushi menu but have heard good things about it. We will most likely try this place again in the future and hope we will enjoy it more."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful. I'd had a wonderful lunch at the Kona Grill, but for dinner on Friday night was overwhelmed by the noise. Our waitress appeared to be under the influence of something or extremely exhausted. We were surprised our food arrived as ordered. One of our guests asked for extra crispy flat bread pizza and it was definitely that -- burnt. The seafood was great. So we have to give this restaurant a very mixed review. Not for children or the elderly -- definitely a young crowd."

  • "Parking was such a nightmare the meal was ruined before we even started. I hear they have valet service in the evening...still, the food was good but not stellar."

  • "Not my first time to Kona, but Shayne (the manager) and his staff always take great care of us whenever we come in. I schedule this for a business meeting and the service was exceptional. Thank you!"

  • "My wife and I were excited to go to someplace new in the Woodlands. Booking was easy using OpenTable and upon arrival we were seated quickly. You immediately note the modern design and energetic atmosphere.. followed quickly by the unbelievable noise level! Throughout the night, the noise level was atrocious. The waitress was really nice and pleasant, but we often found our water glasses or drinks empty with no refill on the way. The menu was perplexing and suffers an identity crisis: seafood, sushi, Cajun, Hawaiian influenced, Thai, etc. The kitchen was swamped and wait for food was long. The taste and quality were both nice, but for the price you really expected to be wow'd. Overall a nice experience, but not one we'll be doing again."

  • "My first time dinning in Kona Grill at the woodlands was an excellent experience, very nice place to go with family and friends, Service was friendly and effective, food tasted wonderful and right amount for dinner. The place is good for adults as well as kids, I really recommend this place to go and have a very good time with family or friends."

  • "Food was great and service was awesome! We had an 8 to a 78 year old and someone allergic to seafood and we all found things on the menu we could enjoy! Great dining experience!"

  • "Great place to go for a good drink and food. Great happy hour specials...get there early as it gets busy!"

  • "We enjoyed sitting at the bar and the mojito made with coconut run was fabulous. Like the atmosphere and the breeze blowing in from open bar. Pretty patio. I would compare the food to Cheesecake factory which I happen to like. Avacado egg rolls were good and the puled pork sandwich was good. We will go back and sit at the bar. A little noisy though, and a little pricy."

  • "Took my fiancé out to dinner for her birthday, it was a Thursday night and the place was pretty happening. Got there about 10 minutes before reservation were seated instantly, the good was amazing we split the angry edemame, a order of potstickers, a wave roll (very fluffy and light)and the soft shell crab po- boy sliders. It was all very good food and the waiter was very attentive."

  • "This restaurant chain is new to the Woodlands, but already buzzing with activity. We have been twice for happy hour and once for dinner and have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. The soft-shell crab sliders are outstanding! Crisp, meaty, seasoned perfectly, with an unexpected andouille sausage topping that somehow compliments the other flavors beautifully. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Bama roll was bland and disappointing but avocado egg roll was unique and tasty. BBQ chicken flatbread was enormous, but a bit too spicy and heavy on the sauce for my taste. Wednesday "wine down" is a great value with an impressive wine selection. Servers were all warm and friendly."

  • "After making our reservation three weeks in advance, we were called at home the morning of our reservation to confirm our attendance. We were told that if we arrived later than 5 minutes, our table would not be guaranteed. This took me aback since we had no intention of arriving late. We were 15 minutes early for our 5:30 reservation and were shown to a table in the main room where my husband had to sit with his back to everything and everyone in an almost empty restaurant. The ambience is nice if you can see it. The food was good with generous portions. The waitress unenthusiastic, my husband's drink was watered down. I think their desire is to cater to a younger bar crowd, but, is The Woodlands the best place for that? I think not."

  • "Although the food was good (Sea Bass was cooked perfectly, but the rest was too much like a chain), the service was terrible. This restaurant recently opened, and must have sent the corporate support home too soon, because it was being run by children that clearly have no clue how to run an higher end restaurant. Specifically, bar drinks tasted watered down, waited too long for wait staff attention, no water provided until requested twice, dirty dishes left on the table, even after positioning them for removal and even when the waiter came to the table and left them there, and a server brought other food and left them there, and finally, the main course arrived before the appetizer... Will not return."

  • "First time to Kona Grill. Expected it to be more upscale. The patrons were dressed from very casual to clubby (reminded me of Cheesecake Factory). The food and service were ok not spectacular, waited 15 minutes for waitress to bring a soft drink while waiting for table reservation. It was very busy (new place to go in The Woodlands) the table server was attentive. The overall experience was ok but I arrived with higher expectations given the location and expense in building the place. I really need a good reason to return."

  • "Good place, this was our second time there. Service has definitely improved/gotten into the groove. Kitchen is still a bit slow...last time our entrees came before the starter arrived. Had a combo of nigiri and roll for starter...very good. then split a Surf and Turf with mahi mahi as substitute....the filet was a perfect MR+ as ordered. My wife and I had the cerviche at the bar beforehand...I had just recently visited Lima and I think Kona's version was definitely OK. We each had a couple of cocktails (the skinny cosmo for her and the rock coconut mohito for me....liked them so much we each had a 2nd! The place is a bit loud....but we enjoyed the buzz. We'll definitely be back..."

  • "This was the perfect place to celebrate Valentines with our friends, exceptional service, and great food!!. We always enjoy the atmosphere and with the weather getting warmer each day will find ourselves spending more time on their outstanding patio. We always enjoy our visits here!"

  • "Hubby and I wanted to celebrate Valentine's a couple of days early. Made res online 5 min before arriving; were seated right away. Greet time exceeded almost 10 minutes; had to flag another waiting and he was great helping until our server finally arrived. All was very nice including the half price wine on Wed. Just wished I had a better server."

  • "The Woodlands deserves better than this! If you want good sushi got to Uni and if you want good seafood make the drive to Houston and go to Reef. The wait staff was pitiful and continually rushed us even though the restaurant was empty. We will Never go back!"

  • "I walked in in a hurry so I didn't get a chance to really look around, but I enjoyed the lighting and layout of the restaurant. We sat at a 2-person table and there was enough room on the table for all of our food and drinks without being crowded. It was packed and we could still hear each other well. The specialty drink I had (raspberry something?) was wonderful and our waiter was great. The food came out quickly, artichoke dip app was so flavorful and seasoned well, sushi was great quality. It was too cold to sit outside, but it looks like it will be a great patio atmosphere with the restaurant part itself and the surroundings."

  • "Had the red fish one night and it was excellent. Went back another night and the server recommended their Chilean sea bass, outstanding! Liked the passion creme brulee much better than the bread pudding. The avocado egg rolls were very good. Also had an excellent pinot noir that was very reasonably priced. love the place."

  • "The restaurant looked pretty cool, but that was about as good as it gets. The service was unenthusiastic and slow. The sushi was very bland and had almost no flavor. One of the rolls we ordered was the voodoo roll, which was supposed to be spicy and full of flavor... Ive had spicier apples. It would be a good place to go for a drink, but nothing more."

  • "Tried Kona for first time and was impressed. The food was consistently excellent from starters to entrees to desserts. Service even in the bar area was attentive and engaging. The vibe is alive, the crowd young & old, families and groups. It is definitely now on our rota for date nights."

  • "Twice in one week I had dinner here. Each time, the service was EXCELLENT. The different dishes were beyond wonderful and beyond what I had hoped for. The menu is varied....the spices delicately applied. No other Woodlands restaurant is serving this menu or this quality. LOL...ok, so the desert celebrating a friend's anniversary could have been plated better....but the portion was HUGE and delicious!"
