Diner Reviews
  • "I have been a regular diner at Kona of The Woodlands since it opened. I am not sure if I was suffering from puppy love, or if the service at this restaurant has just not ever been acceptable. Either way the service is definitely not acceptable any longer. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, this visit disappointed. Even though I stated I had lunch reservations for four. The greeter attempted to push Sunday happy hour seating onto my party. In hindsight she was probably right because this meal was nearly serve/help yourself. No plates. No utensils. Slow slow food delivery. One of the four meals wasn't delivered to the table and I had to point that fact out to the waiters. Unfortunately this was not unique to this visit."

  • "We our patents to two small children and do not get away much no when we do, we make the best of it and try to pack as much into one night as possible but we're enjoying ourselves so much we didn't have to go any where else! We had such a wonderful time at Kona! We were celebrating my husband's birthday and we're treated like royalty :) our waitress was classy abs efficient, knowledgeable and patient with our first time guest questions. We stayed the entire evening and had a blast. The food was incredible and the manner Helen brought several sauces to try. She was so kind and really made us feel special. We soo appreciate the excellent experience! Thank you and we will be recommending you!!"

  • "We enjoyed the meals and ambiance when we dined at the Kona Grill in Kansas City and expected to have the same experience at The Woodlands location. Big disappointment! We had to wait for someone to Valet park our car, my husband's drink order was messed up, my Cosmo was very weak and almost tasted watered down, and the food was just ok. We could tell our waiter was new and inexperienced which added to our frustration. There are too many dining options to choose from which makes it very unlikely we will ever return to The Woodlands Kona Grill."

  • "Was a bit concerned since there are so many recent unfavorable reviews. Had a group of 5. Bartenders were not overly friendly, but service and drinks were decent. Later at our table, service was good (not outstanding) and everyone was for the most part happy with the food. My dish was very good - the sea bass. Will definitely be back!!"

  • "Kona Grill is beautiful! The location is excellent, the ambiance is electric, and the food is pedestrian. The sushi was lackluster. I ordered one of the signature dishes (Hawaiian Ribeye), and could not have been more disappointed. The steak was not trimmed or marinated well. The sides were cafeteria-esque, and the onion rings and pineapple on top were both superfluous and incongruent. In all, the meal simply did not deliver. On a positive note, the service was excellent!"

  • "I'll have to say, most of the time I come to Kona I have a pretty great experience overall. Unfortunately this time, not so much. First they sat us in a dark corner right next to the bathroom and when we asked to be moved they moved us literally 5 feet away. The foot was good but our waiter kind of cut us off of drinks by suggesting one of us needed to drive (which we had literally had two drinks a piece)."

  • "My oldest daughter had been asking to try out Kona Grill ever since it opened. We decided to surprise her with lunch there on her 20th birthday. The food was delicious. Portions were decent for the price and the service was friendly and good. Overall, a great experience for our special occasion."

  • "Service was poor (slow); food was very below average; after spending over $300 will not be back"

  • "We have previously enjoyed dining at Kona Grill in San Antonio and were expecting the same great food and excellent service at The Woodlands location. Didn't happen - service, food, and bar were all lacking. We will not be back."

  • "This place is terrible. From the wait time to barely any alcohol in our drinks, it was awful. The sushi was the worst sushi I have ever eaten and probably the most expensive. I think people assume if it's in a prime location in the Woodlands that the food will be good....WRONG! I would rather eat at a taco truck off of Navigation than to go here again. Good luck if you brave this place after my review!"

  • "Went with three other couples.. Great food, little slow service at first but got better. But, it was way to hot in restaurant with the bar area wide open. It had been raining earlier and it turned into a sauna after. They tried to make it cooler by adjusting a/c but it wasn't much better. So overall, great food, drinks, and sweets but leaving there with my dress wet wasn't so fun."

  • "The food and service were both very good and prices were reasonable, particlularly considering the location in the waterway area. We will go back. The ceviche was excellent, as was the key lime pie. The sea bass was good but not great."

  • "We met friends for dinner here recently and enjoyed it. Our only complaint concerns the food. As food is the reason for going to a restaurant, it's a big deal. We don't understand why the food comes from the kitchen with so much salt. In case the chefs don't know it, there is salt on the tables for customers to over-salt their food, it doesn't HAVE to come from the kitchen that way."

  • "This was my first time at any Kona Grill. The restaurant was moderately loud but with the table arrangement you could hear what was being said at your table. The food was great and the perfect lunch size."

  • "I came to this location (1st time) on father's day and I fell in love!! Amazing interior design with a chic, sleek ambiance. We just loved the aquarium. Will definitely be back. Complimentary valet as well."

  • "We had lunch at Kona for the first time the other day. It was ok but not near as good Uni's. Food was ok, my sushi did not taste super fresh. Nice atmosphere and close to my office but nothing that makes me say man I cant wait to go back. Plus I thought it was very expensive. Dumplings alone were $10 and they only give 5. When a couple orders to share there should always be 6 to share. Will probably stick to my Favorite."

  • "My first visit was very disappointing. Our food selection was Pepperoni Flatbread, Two selections of Sushi, and one kids Hamburger meal with French Fries and Macaroni. The Flatbread was highly salted and mushy. The Macaroni was watery and had no flavor. Part of the Sushi was not eadible due to texture. We were wanting desert, but decided to go home and maybe come back and just try desert by itself. The view of the Anadarko and area might be worth the second visit. "

  • "I went to the Kona Grill for Mother's day and I must say, the service there was on par! The waiter we had was very nice and he made sure that we were having a good time and enjoying our food. The food at Kona is very good and the only complaint I have is that I couldn't stay longer! My mom enjoyed her time here and we will be coming back!"

  • "Outside of picking up a great lunch for myself, Kona Grill is a perfect place to bring a company or family group. Atmosphere is the best, food is excellent, service is polite and fast -- a perfect place to gather and talk while having a great meal. Some places are so loud you cannot hear anyone at the table unless they are sitting immediately to your left or right. This is not what you receive at Kona Grill. Perfect for relaxing, enjoying a wonderful meal, and visiting with your group."

  • "The restaurant was bustling but not crowded, we had an Open Table reservation and were seated immediately. Our little group was having lunch and so there were salads, sandwiches & burgers served. We all enjoyed the food and the service - no complaints. "

  • "I had lunch with 2 co-workers, all of our food was OK, I have had the Kona Salad (with macedamia nut chicken) twice now, first time was fabulous, but this second time it was soggy with too much dressing, and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while with dressing on it (next time I will know to ask for dressing on the side). The worst part of our lunch was the service, my water glass never got refilled and towards the end of the lunch, my co-worker knocked his glass of ice over onto our table & the floor and NO ONE CLEANED IT UP -- there was ice everwhere on our table and the floor, we were right near server area of the bar & they just walked around the mess. "

  • "Came here for Easter Sunday lunch and it wasn't crowded by any means. We sat outside (it was a gorgeous, windy afternoon) and had drinks and sushi. The waitress was very helpful in helping my mother decide of happy hour drinks and sushi. I went the same way I do with a Gin and Soda (Hendricks) and a sushi with nothing fried but something spicy and new. Got the checkerboard roll which was very tasty but not as good as the one with jalapenos and sirachi sauce (forgot the name). All in all, always a great time and the manager is quick to check on you EVERY time. "

  • "This was my second visit to Kona Grill and it was good, but not as good as my first visit. Worried that they are slipping. Restaurant was also not busy. Not sure if it was due to Easter weekend?"

  • "Was our first time and here is how it went: 1. We pulled up and the comp valet parking guy immediately took our car, no waiting 2. We walked in and they immediately honored our reservation and took us to our table 4. Water and starters immediately taken care of - fast and efficient service 5. Waiter came and quickly took order, made good suggestions 6. Food arrived in timely manner, hot, well prepared and very tasty 7. Price is very reasonable for such a classy place - great atmosphere inside and out 8. Took our check but did not hurry us to leave, lingered over Lattes and desserts 9. Took our valet tag and car was waiting for us when we went outside All in all an outstanding experience. "

  • "Friends wanted to take us for dinner and I suggested Kona Grill as I had previously had lunch there and enjoyed it. The décor and ambience is excellent. However on the evening we were there, the food was less than stellar. Letuuce wraps had little flavor and the potstickers were so-so. My shrimp penne was good but my husbands jambalaya was so spicy it was nearly intolerable. I did not hear our friends rave about their dishes. This was followed up by a cup of stale , re heated, lukewarm decaf coffee. I felt badly that our friends paid the bill for food that was mediocre at best."

  • "Service was awesome, good gluten free menu, noise level can get a little high. Food was good, nice presentation. Upscale setting with outdoor seating. Will be back!! Manager stopped at our table and chatted for a while. Staff seemed genuinely wanting to make sure we were happy. We will be back!!"

  • "Made a reservation through the opentable app. Restaurant had our reservation but forgot to give us our points. This was corrected but not a positive way to start. The waiter was very slow greeting us and the manager had to come apologize for his lack of attention. The waiter was nice but extremely slow as we were dining on our lunch hour. Service seemed to get worse as the section became more crowded. Waiter didn't get the order exactly right as we request fries instead of chips. The food overall was good but not what we expected for the money we spent. We did not try the sushi menu but have heard good things about it. We will most likely try this place again in the future and hope we will enjoy it more."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful. I'd had a wonderful lunch at the Kona Grill, but for dinner on Friday night was overwhelmed by the noise. Our waitress appeared to be under the influence of something or extremely exhausted. We were surprised our food arrived as ordered. One of our guests asked for extra crispy flat bread pizza and it was definitely that -- burnt. The seafood was great. So we have to give this restaurant a very mixed review. Not for children or the elderly -- definitely a young crowd."
