  • "We've been here a couple times before and thought while the decorating seems odd - we love it upstairs. We had a big group for this event - and service was terrible, food missed, martinis had vermouth when we asked for no vermouth - and we could see kitchen was backed up so some of our food was cold by the time it got to us. Big fail - and we won't be coming back."

  • "A great new find in the Arts District a week ago - I was torn between the Ahi w/sweet-chili sauce and the Macadamia Crusted Chicken (which I got on our last visit) and they were equally fantastic! Now, let's talk sushi - if you're a fan of sushi you'll like the offerings and presentation (suggest you sit at the sushi bar and watch the artistry at work). There is a considerable noise level (after all IT IS a grill) so if you're expecting to hear a pin drop, this is not the place. NOTE: Seating is limited so dinner rez are recommended for up to 4 guests; parking is validated and the garage is next door, just around the corner. Overall, the food is "ono" and service "maika'i"."

  • "The interior was nice. We had the calamari app. It was bland. The only way to get flavor was to dip in the sauce it came with. I had the chicken club with avacado and chipotle mayo that was very bland and skimpy on the mayo. My husband had the fish and chicken tacos which he felt left much to be desired. As a sushi lover, I was sad to hear my brother say sushi is not Kona Grill's forte. So sad. Tried a new resturaunt on my birthday and am really upset I did spend my time and money at a resturant I knew would suck."

  • "I found Kona through Open Table but had never been there before. I did not know what to expect. It was a very classy place, right in the heart of the 7th Street area. The food was amazing and the price was good- about what I expected for sushi. We had the Las Vegas, the Spider, and some California Rolls. All were great but our favorite was the Las Vegas roll. The fried tempura was fresh and toasty, with the right amount of crunch! We ate upstairs so we could be outside for the sunset. The weather was perfect as we were shaded while we ate. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "The drink & food menu at Kona are both awesome with so much to choose from. Really good sushi, and the angry edamame was delicious! I also had the Pad Thai which was really good, especially with a little bit of the angry sauce added to it. The only reason I gave the ambiance 4 stars instead of 5 is because we sat in front of a large window & even with the"shade" drawn, the sun was glaring in half of our table's faces to the point that we had to scoot all of our chairs to one side of the table. Besides this slight distraction everything was perfect, and I will definitely be back soon."

  • "We had a great dining experience and can't wait to go back! We had with us 2 boys, 8 and 9, and they LOVED their food and the presentation was very fun! Everyone enjoyed their food very much. Our special reservation request to sit by a TV so that we could watch the TCU game while we dined was also arranged and waiting upon us when we arrived. Great experience!"

  • "Had a great family birthday celebration here. Tried the BBQ flatbread and avocado egg rolls for starters--very good! Entrees were all enjoyed as we'll -- macadamia breaded chicken, pad Thai, pork sliders and a vegetarian noodle dish. In fact, they had a separate vegetarian menu which was a nice touch. Crime brûlée was on the house for my daughter and I as a birthday treat. Highly recommend. I will say the noise level got pretty intense as the restaurant started filling up."

  • "My wife and I tryed it because we'd heard that it was pretty good and boy was it ever ! I had an amazing spider roll with soft shell crab and my wife had yummy shrimp pasta! The server (Deshawn I believe it was) talked all night about the carrot cake, so we had to try one. The carrot cake was big enough for four people and pretty frikken amazing as was the passion fruit creme brûlée. Overall great food, service, dining experience and view of the museum district from the rooftop patio!"

  • "Our table of four enjoyed the yummy drinks and each of our dinner selections. Two had sushi, two had the traditional menu. We did have to wait awhile for our food, which was Ok since we were enjoying the drinks. That is until our waiter asked 3 of us for a drink refill but ignored the fourth one. By the time we finally got his attention much later, our food was being served and he was pretty disappointed. A manager came around later to ask how everything was and one of us told her the situation and also gave some suggestions. The young lady did not look very professional and did act it, either. She just went along with what we said but did not offer any apologizes or thanks for menu suggestions. Still, we all really enjoyed our food."

  • "After hearing mixed reviews from friends, we decided to give the place a chance. It was, to be kind, a mixed bag. Two couples ordered one appetizer to share, three different entrees and one dessert large enough to share. The appetizer was very good. The entrees ranged from very good to what were they thinking, with the one in the middle being, "What happened? This was big enough to share at the Austin location." The key lime pie was huge! Unfortunately it was not that great. The filling was okay, but didn't knock anyone's socks off. The biggest problem was the almost inedible crust. The deal killer was the loud from music the bar area and totally clueless service. The consensus was we'll give it another chance, but not too soon. "

  • "Excellent food-not so good on service. After placing our order (party of 5) we were told that our meals would be out in about 15 minutes. Actually closer to 30! Our server disappeared for long periods of time during the meal. The décor is interesting but the noise level is way too high! We'll return for the food and hope that we get a better server next time."

  • "This was probably my fifth time visiting Kona. I always enjoy the food and the ambience. Our waiter was quite good; however, he was not aware that the calamari was spicy. I am not able to eat spicy food due to a lack of saliva. I specifically asked if the calamari itself was spicy. He thought it was in the sauce rather than on the fish so I ordered it. The staff should be better informed, or taste the food before being expected to accurately describe it. The wind and the misters combined become irritating. I will be back and still recommend the Grill highly."

  • "Kona Grill on University and Crockett remains a mystry to me and others. While the general package of service, food quality & ambience was above average, I don't see crowds & energy. The roof top dining is fun and the uncluttered, modern decor, downstairs, is beautiful. Price point is good. But intangibles lack; wait staff perhaps untrained, greeters stiff, but Konas's main objective, eclectic menu & good food is worth trying. I have never been unimpressed with the taste, freshness and quality. "

  • "We went to Kona Grill Ft. Worth on a Friday night, and after having dined at the Austin location several times, we were expecting a similar experience. The decor was really nice (better than Austin) and the food was the same (good), but the crowd was questionable. Lots of little kids (with bar lounging parents ignoring them while they cried). The crowd was on the trashier side, with a mix of the normal West 7th dining regulars. Being a regular West 7th patron myself, I can't help but think that it's because Kona can be seen from the main road. And the hostess didn't do whatever she was supposed to do with my open table reservation, so I got a notification that I did not honor it and am not getting my points. We won't be returning."

  • "Thought he could remember everything but kept forgetting. Asked for water at the beginning did not get it til we were 75% done. Asked for sauce finally had to ask someone else to get it. Food was incredible, atmosphere was great but the waiter was horrible."

  • "My wife and I decided to get sushi here for our fourth anniversary, and were not disappointed. Started with 5 strips each of whitefish and yellowtail sashimi, followed it up with a Las Vegas roll, and polished the meal off with the best Jambalaya either of us have had. Our server was always right there when we needed something, and even went out of his way to get my wife a sour apple martini."

  • "We ate at Kona Grill on a Sunday evening, and were looking forward to the meal, based on the reviews. We had 2 orders for the Sea Bass and 1 of the Tuna. The Sea Bassers loved their dish. The "Tuna" doesn't like raw fish so requested that it be cooked med. to med. rare. When the tuna was delivered it was seared only, so was sent back. Ten mins. later, when it returned, it was well done, not done well. It was edible, but was cooked beyond what was requested. The desserts are AWESOME; we had passion creme brulee, key lime pie, and apple bread pudding. All were delish, and HUGE. Service was OK, and managment was swarming. There is nothing Hawaiian about this place except the name, a little ethnic confusion, based on the menu."

We had the pad thai with Shrimp, they brought it to us with chicken. they made us a new one , but the noodles were really rubbery. I felt they made it to fast to try and get it out quickly because the other couples food had already come out. I was not pleased with that. I would rather have sushi at Piranahs."
