Diner Reviews
  • "I've been to Kona several times and always have had a great experience. It was fairly busy last time I went though so that was the only downside...the noise. oh and being seated near the door it was a little cold. other than that, wonderful"

  • "We had a group of 8 and requested quiet dining area. We were seated near the fireplace which was very nice. They just changed their wine list and found the choices to be very good. People especially enjoyed the Tilapia and Buffalo Shrimp with the best blue cheese ever. Very good service."

  • "I had two rolls of sushi, my friend had pad Thai and we both loved our meals. It was half-priced-bottles-of-wine night so we got a bottle and it was good too! It was all around a great experience."

  • "Not the best place to go when happy hour is going on...very loud and busy."

  • "My friends and I had a wonderful birthday evening at The Kona Grill - very very good food, but my only objection is they put too much dressing on the salad - it took away the good flavors of the chopped salad. They had a nice selection of wines and desserts to make it a nice birthday for my friend! We go there quite a bit, and I always enjoying going."

  • "The saki marinated Sea Bass melts in your mouth like butter, and has an incredibly buttery flavor as well. The way it is broiled gives it a beautiful brown crust, and paired with the chicken/shrimp fried rice with pineapple and veggie stir fry - outstanding!! My dinner companions raved about the sushi, and we all enjoyed the creme brulee and bread pudding. A great night out celebrating our daughter's 14th birthday!"

  • "The food and service were great, the ambience a little odd. Our lights kept dimming on and off, about every half hour."

  • "Food was great. Menu has a large selection and good variety. Service was good. Our server had a great sense of humor!!! A little cold in the booths by the window."

  • "We ordered calamari and clam chowder. The calamari with the Chipotle aioli was delicious albeit a bit undercooked with a raw flour taste. The chowder was good but it was served with oyster crackers on top that got soggy so I removed them. We had the fish special - a Corvina with cucumber salsa - that was dry and flavorless but the shrimp & pork fried rice substitution for white rice was good. My wife had the macadamia nut chicken salad but the honey mustard dressing was too bland. The manager eagerly offered new entrees and recommended the sea bass, which was outstanding! He even comped our ice cream dessert so my wife wouldn't have to awkwardly watch me eat my 2nd entree. It's clear they want you to leave happy and impressed, and we were!"

  • "It would appear from our visit that Happy hour is the best time to go to Kona grill, there is half off specials on a lot of their sushi and appetizers, as well as, drink specials. Our food was fantastic their spin on classic sushi was great (called their Kona rolls), everything we had was delicious and our time was well spent there."

  • "Had made reservations a few days in advanced and when my guest and I arrived the power was out. I understand that that is out of their controle but I would have appreciated a phone call that the power was out so I didn't waste my time to driving an hour out there to just have to turn around. Very disappointed."

  • "Had a good time at Kona. All staff were attentive including greeters, bartenders and waitresses. Very busy night and full bar, but were able to get a drink before dinner and we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time. Food was good but not great. Ambience was very nice, good buzz of conversations but could still hear each other at our table. Well done to the staff and management."

  • "A great location to celebrate birthdays for the young and older set. Of course the sushi is amazing, but standard menu offerings from the calamari and pot stickers, to the meatloaf and pasta dishes are tremendous!"

  • "The Kona Grill has something for everyone and excellent sushi for even the most discriminating sushi-lovers. We like to come here for lunch because one of my friends likes beef or pasta and I never miss the opportunity to have good sushi. Please note, be sure to make a reservation! I once made the mistake of dropping in over the lunch hour and was relegated to sitting at the bar with my griend And not that that's bad, it was fun just not comfortable. The host staff at that visit gently chastised me for not knowing that a reservation was appropriate for the lunch hour. I have had one every visit since and with Open Table it could not be easier. Also, 11:30-ish is good, after that, parking becomes an issue."

  • "We came for a birthday celebration with 6 people 3 of which were celebrating birthdays. We had sushi and the sake' sangria to celebrate. It was the perfect atmosphere for a night out and the service was great! Not to mention the complimentary birthday dessert was a red velvet cupcake! Will definitely be back for dinner soon."

  • "I had been to Kona Grill in San Diego but it was new to my husband. We had great service and outstanding food. There is variety for everyone....meat, fish, sushi, sandwiches and more. Will be sure to come back."

  • "Slow service. We waited over an hour to get our food. As working professionals, expectations need to be that we only have an hour to eat. Not an hour to wait for our food."

  • "They have a great food selection for happy hour, but wish they would have had some more wine options. My friend and I got there on a Friday at about 4:30 and it was packed with no empty tables in their huge bar/lounge! We ended up sitting at the bar, which worked out great. The flatbread, was a little dry, but their happy hour appetizers are great. I would also recommend the bread pudding for dessert!"

  • "Saturday night birthday dinner for my wife along w/ adult kids. Sushi & entrees were great. Cocktail service was inexcusable. It's bad when the conversation has stopped and all 5 people are drumming their fingers because the mojitos ordered 15 minutes ago have still not arrived. Counted seven wait staff queued up waiting for drinks from the bar. Floor managers seem oblivious. This is not the first time it's been slow but this time was much worst than the past. We will go back, but if the bar is not dramatically improved, it will be out last."

  • "Great restaurant often overlooked by foodies. Fish preparations are excellent. Sea Bass was perfectly prepared. Full bar selections. We also had the avocado egg roll as an appetizer. Never had that before. It was fantastic although they forgot to bring before the main course. So, they comped it for us. This is the second time they have forgotten to bring the appetizer. Curious. Restaurant has a bit of a chain feel to it (because it is) but beautifully appointed."

  • "Sometimes restaurants in the suburbs don't always have the best reputation as being a place with great food. Well, that is NOT the case for Kona Grill. My date and I were celebrating Valetine's Day, a day late, but had a wonderful experience. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly; gave great recommendation on the sushi, which was tasty. The appetizer - spinach dip came out hot and gooey, the perfection combination. Based on the food and experience at Kona Grill, we would definitely come back again."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants. They have it all right - food, service, ambience. Went there for Valentines Day celebration and it was delightful. My husband had sushi which is excellent - very good sushi chefs. I had one of their salads which I love and topped it off with a huge piece of red velvet cake! yum!!!"

  • "I met to have lunch with 3 retired women I bike (bicycle) with in the summer. We all ordered soup that had to be sent back because it was not hot enough. They graciously got us new bowls of soup, 2 managers check on us to make sure everything was good then they rewarded us with a HUGE piece of Red Velvet cake. We actually ordered a Red Velvet Cupcake and the waiter said "Opps!" with a silly smile on his face. Kona is my favorite place to eat. Not only is the food great the service is great also."

  • "We keep trying new dishes, this time some sushi, pot stickers and chicken chili. AND we would have them again and recommend them. Service and wait staff very attentive. And we shared a free birthday red velvet cupcake. Everything about Kona keeps us coming back.."

  • "I've been to kona a handful of times and haven't had any problems until my last visit a few days ago. I usually go on Sunday's for the all day happy hour pricing (it's also a little more kid friendly on Sunday's, so it's a good time to bring the family) but we decided to try a date night and were less than impressed. It was quite noisy, the hostess had to practically scream the specials to us and our server was exceptionally short with us. We weren't Picky diners by any means, two drinks, two sushi rolls, and dessert. We felt like such an inconvenience to her that it was an extremely awkward dining experience. The good is great, the decor is fun, the wait staff just needs a little customer service training."
