Diner Reviews
  • "Three of us had dinner at Kona Grill. We selected favorites from the menu including macadamia nut chicken, Big Island meatloaf, and citrus glazed salmon. All were well-prepared and presented. For dessert, we shared a yummy key lime pie. Service was friendly and attentive. There were several large groups in the restaurant on this particular night so there was a high noise level, making conversation at our table difficult."

  • "Definitely one of the best meals I've had. My wife started with the Margarita Flatbread which was absolutely delicious. I had the spicy tuna role which honestly was very average. My wife had the seared Ahi tuna. A nice big piece of fish. Not super top quality but very good. The sweet chili sauce was amazing. it was served with baby bock choy which were delicate and great. I had the sea bass which was nicely charred and yet delicate and buttery on the inside. Fantastic. It was served with shrimp and pork fried rice. I could easily eat this for lunch by itself. It was also served with a vegetable ragout which was spicy, fresh, and amazing. I really enjoyed this meal and easily makes it into my top 10 meals."

  • "I never have anything bad to say about Kona Grill, but their calamari was a little overdone for me. Although it was tasty, it had more "chew" than I prefer. Our server did a fabulous job and took it back and brought back a better batch. Of course, I won't let this one incident stop me, but I will be more specific when ordering something like that (cook it easy, please, etc.). :)"

  • "As far as chain restaurant food goes, Kona Grill is a reliable good option. We had a large group and everything from appetizers to entrees were very good. Portions are huge if that's what you like."

  • "Kona I love this place. The prices are moderate, not cheap, but not overpriced. The service is excellent and the food is great! I work in the area and try to go there as often as possible, I have loved everything I've had and I have never had to wait long for the food or the check. Highly recommend."

  • "You must see this special place--presentation, attention, and above all quality of food were outstanding. Each person, no matter what their assigned job, went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Every request was honored without question and very quickly. This was our second time, and we'll be back! We've been to one other Kona Grill in another state, and that good experience led us to this one--well worth the trip."

  • "We sat for 25 minutes without drinks. We were just told several times that our wine would be right out. Three of out drinks finally came, but the margarita my friend ordered took another 5 or so minutes. This is unacceptable service in my opinion. The food took forever and our apps came out with the sushi rolls. We ordered the spicy tuna, spinach dip, and calamari. It was all edible but not memorable. Our server was polite enough but never apologized for the long wait nor acknowledged that we were waiting forever. Perhaps things always take this long there and so she didn't notice? Maybe there were things going in behind the scenes we weren't made aware of."

  • "Restaurant was busy and loud. Server was inexperienced. Food was OK; not amazing but not poor. Was told upon sitting that sushi would take 45 minutes to receive if we ordered it yet server took a very long time to take our order."

  • "We reserved a group of 20 for Opening Day for the Orioles game on March 31st. Our table was ready when we arrived 15 mins early and they accomodated us as others arrived later due to traffic issues. The drinks were great, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Perfect A++++++"

  • "Everything from the sushi to the entrees was amazing. If you love spicy food you won't have a problem finding something to enjoy (jambalaya, volcano roll). Service was also great and they knew all the dishes we asked about. Next time I'm in baltimore I'm definitely going back!"

  • "We consider Kona Grill a neighborhood favorite even though it is in the heart of downtown. The menu is interesting and varied. On this evening, we enjoyed the macadamia nut chicken and pad Thai. Portions were generous and well-prepared. Service was friendly and attentive."

  • "I booked a table here at this restaurant for my group , attending a conference at the nearby Hyatt Regency Hotel and what a wonderful choice that was.I loved the idea of a Hawaiian themed fusion restaurant with affordable prices, superior cocktails, and in such a convenient location from where our hotel was. The wait staff went above and beyond in accommodating our large party, offering insight from their experiences with the dishes to let us best select the dish suited to our tastes. Excellent and creative appetizers guided us into the main course, where I had the Mac Nut Chicken. I would highly recommend this location to a friend, group, couple, you name it the experience was top notch but didn't break the beak. Kudos to you all!"

  • "We went to Kona Grill to celebrate my husbands birthday. The food was outstanding. It was a bit noisy with it just being the two of us but we went earlier in the evening and I would just say it was energetic. My ONLY complaint was I didn't think the drinks were that good. I order a drink (can't remember name) that I was told was one of the most popular and it was too sweet. However, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was our first time and I would go back again."

  • "I made a reservation for a large group over 24 hours in advance. They called vas we confirmed that reservation. After we were seated it took over an hour to get drinks from the bar and over two hours to get our food. The manager was arguing with another table near us. Once we got our food, two people at our table waited an additional 15 minutes for their lost orders. As we got our food, I asked our server to bring our checks right away. That took another hour. And, all of our bills had the incorrect drinks on them. We just paid them anyway. We got free desserts to go, but that was a chaotic process and they were out of several desserts. There was no apology and no sense of urgency to help us. I will never go back and never recommend."

  • "Food was great. Service was very good. Sushi was quite tasty. I however was most impressed by the expansive children's menu with great "real" food items to select from. That alone made me want to return for family outings, after work events, & date night with my husband!!!"

  • "I have been living in MD for about 8 months now (originally from CA), and I have to say that out of all of the restaurants that I have been to in MD, this one is the best! I am a vegetarian so I was very very pleased to see a lot of options for me to taste and enjoy. The ambience was very relaxing, yet not too mellow to where I was falling alseep. The food was excellent, the service was great, the prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere is perfect for any occasion. This will definitely be my go 2 place from now on."

  • "The Kona Grill is in a convenient location in the downtown Inner Harbor area. The Happy Hour specials were fairly nice - there was a large selection to choose from. However, I would rate only 50% of our food choices being tasty. The potstickers and lettuce wraps were not liked by the table. The sushi roll and shrimp dish were very nice. Additionally, we found the wait staff a bit rude. Happy Hour specials were only available when dining at the bar. Due to this, we waited to be seated, but then were told this and moved to the bar. Overall, I might go back if in the area and needed a small bite to eat."

  • "While visiting for a conference I visited the Kona Grill. The staff seemed to be extremely overwhelmed. It took nearly 20 minutes to talk to the hostess and then an additional 10 minutes to be seated. There were 4 severs working in the restaurant and there was no manager around. Our appetizers came before our drinks from the bar came. We had no silverware. We waited a significant amount of time for our entrees to come. Others around us waited over 2 hours for their food. The waiter was friendly and trying to do what he could, but the entire staff were just too overwhelmed. The quality of the food was good, but the service needs to be improved."

  • "The best part of this dining experience was the attentiveness -- but not pushiness -- of the waitstaff. Very well trained. The food was very good, but needed a better hand in the kitchen. The potstickers are wonderful. Made with ground chicken; they taste as if they might have some chicken liver included to add to the richness. But the dipping sauce was right out of the refrigerator, and cooled off the potstickers w-a-y too much. The Hawaiian steak was also wonderful. It came with amazing string beans and a wonderful potato mash. But the medium-rare steak that I ordered came somewhere past medium. The flavor was great, but it could have been much better had it come the way I ordered it. All-in-all, I was glad I went."

  • "This is the 3rd or 4th time I've been here and it's always good. I love that you can get sushi plus a full menu of other interesting and tasty food options. Good portions, quick service, and also delicious desserts. Never done the outdoor seating in the summer but seems like it would be a great atmosphere too"

  • "We had dinner with clients before going to the Hippodrome on a Friday night. We were seated promptly and our drink orders taken immediately. We shared the avocado eggrolls and some fresh sushi. Both excellent. The house salad was chilled and crisp with delicious Gorgonzola cheese crumbles. Two of us had the fresh fish special and the others, the Ahi tuna. The dinners were fresh with perfect portions. The dessert portions are ENORMOUS, like 1/4 of a cake big! The four of us could have shared one serving and not finished. Our service could not have been better. We were never rushed but were able to enjoy a great meal and still make it to our show on time. There is valet parking for $10 on the corner of Pratt Street,"

  • "Kitchen was sooooooo slow. We don't usually dine on Saturday evening and probably won't return on a Saturday. It took 45 minutes to get our sushi appetizers. Our entrees also took forever. Our awesome server kepted up updated on food status apologizing for delay. It was clear kitchen was understaffed."

  • "This was my first time to Kona and I can say I enjoyed it. The ribeye was cooked perfectly the flatbread was delicious the bread pudding was outstanding. Service was good drink was watered down and my friends filet took a couple of tries but I plan on making Kona one of my regular spots and would advise others to try them. They won't be disappointed"

  • "I dined at Kona Grill to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary. The food was divine. My only complaints are that the sushi chefs were running behind so our appetizer arrived about 45 minutes after ordering. Also we were seated in a booth close to the bar and there was no place to hang up our coats and it was a party of six. Naturally the booth was quite crowded with coats, purses, etc."
