Koi Restaurant and LoungeGreat timeThis place was great. The food was great and sushi was to die for. I recommend the miso crusted black cod or kobe beef. The only slighty negetive part was the noise. The lounge is attached to the dining room so it was very loud. I thought it was going to be a little lore intimate then that. But once you got use to it, it wasn't bad. The music made for a fun enviroment. Overall this place was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better time!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly Surprised!We booked Koi for dinner our first night as we were staying nearby and saw some good reviews. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We shared the creamy rock shrimp appetizer, which was scrumptious. The portion was very generous & enough for a light meal for one person. I had the black cod entrée and my husband had the sea bass special. Both dishes were very elegantly presented & delicious. Portions were just perfect. Pricing reasonable. The staff were friendly & accommodating. The noise level was pretty high with pounding house music from the bar area. If you want to talk, request a booth on the back wall where it's not too loud. My short ribs could not have been better. My wife's ahi was excellent and cooked perfectly. Our dessert was a chocolaty delight. And I wish you had spell check on this. The food was fantastic, the staff was helpful and attentive, and the drinks were well made.
The one curious element was the speed of the service. We were a party of seven, our final bill was 550. But we were in and out of the restaurant in about 50 minutes.
The restaurant was probably about 3/4 full from what I could see. Our reservation was for 8 pm on a Saturday night.
At no point did the staff appear to be pushing us out the door, but the pace of the food service was very fast as they brought new rolls out fast on the heels of the previous plates. As a result, we each only had one drink. Not complaining, just surprised.

The place is so beautiful, and the staff, from Armando, to Fernando, our waiter, to Chef Tim's amazing creation was all just off the HOOK! The lobster tacos were delicious and the baked lobster on California roll was awesome. We also had many other delicious creations and finished up with a palette-cleansing Ojai Pixie Tangerine sorbet, which was the perfect finish.
