Diner Reviews
  • "An interesting blend of Hawaiian, Asian and Portuguese cuisines, it is fusion cuisine at its best, offering some very tasty appetizers, delicious entrees and heavenly desserts. There is a very good selection of wines, and both the food and wine prices are reasonable. The service was friendly, knowledgeable in both the wines and the food, and attentive. We never felt rushed or pushed in any way. The atmosphere is quite casual, although you could certainly make it a special evening should you wish, but ask for a pool side seat. We enjoyed our dining experience at Ko and it certainly made our last night in Maui a memorable one."

  • "The Lau Lau fish special that we ordered was very nicely executed and very tasty. The Lobster Tempura is a delicatey done and never disappoints. Elegant & casual atmosphere with cheerful and pleasant staff."

  • "We absolutely loved this restaurant. It was laid out in a way that each table felt fairly private. It overlooked the pool, which was quiet at night. The service was great, and the food was unique. The only reason for the 4 star rating overall is that on the urban spoon website, the price per entree is listed as $15-25, however it is much higher. This was not a problem for us, but I just think people need to know. Our total bill for two people was $140 before tip, and we did not have any drinks."

  • "There are better, expensive restaurants at the four seasons and grand wailea that are a short walk from this hotel. Skip it."

  • "Overall I would rate our experience a 4. we were seated at an end table by the entertainer and it felt crowded. There were 5 of us and the table might have been set up for 4 people. Just our drinks the space was already full."

  • "We went to Ko for a special dinner in Maui having dined the previous nights at Spargo's (at the Four Seasons) and Tommy Bahamas Restaurant (at the Shops at Wailea). Spargo's & Tommy Bahama's were excellent. Ko was appalling! We had tropical cocktails - my wife's was supposedly Ko's "signature cocktail", mine a pineapple martini. Both were harsh, tasted more like margaritas than martinis, and were overly acidic. I opted for their seafood paella. The dish lacked cohesion - it was not a true paella which fuses many flavors. Rather it was simply decent shellfish sitting atop a bland bowl of saffron rice, with lumps of dark chicken meat thrown in. My wife had the lobster tempura. It was more like a large shrimp than a lobster."

  • "We had dinner here twice while staying at ths Fairmont. They have a great Kama'aina discount. The fresh catch is excellent!"

  • "great food, great atmosphere but more importantly we had a great server (John) who made the experience more memorable. It was my fiance's birthday and he acknowledged it and made it special for us. Would definitely recommend it to friends."

  • "Chef Tylun Pang is amazing. The Kobe beef poke is one of my favorite appetizers. Wow! For our entrees, our table of 4 had the Lobster Tempura, Chap Chae (new on the menu), the whole fried fish (my wife's favorite) and the Ginger Hoisin Pork Chop --everything was amazing. (We passed our plates around so we could sample each dish.) For desert, the Pao Doce Frito is just unbelievable! It's a Portuguese sweet bread doughnut stuffed with coconut gelato, rolled in vanilla sugar and with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. It was ono (delicious)! The staff is one of the most knowledgeable and friendliest that we have ever encountered. Misty is a great Ambassador of Aloha! The food and service makes for one of the most memorable dining experiences."

  • "We stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani for 5 nights in March and tried all their dining options. We booked KO as our fine dining evening and we're very disappointed. As we learned, the restaurant is more of a casual dining option for families with young children - which is fine - but I think the sheer number of guests overwhelmed the kitchen. It took over an hour for us to receive our appetizers of miso soup. After that another 30-45 minutes for the main course. The servers apologized many times saying the kitchen was backed up. We thought the food was ok - nothing great. We also at at Nicks - which had better service. My advice - skip this restaurant."

  • "My wife and I like to sit at the bar for dinner and this is our new benchmark for dining at the bar. Excellent service. Outstanding wine list and delicious food. We'll be back, over and over again."

  • "I can not exactly put my finger on it but it was a disappointing dining experience."

  • "The service was excellent, and the location and view is quite nice. Overall I enjoyed the food quite a bit. The menu is a blend of Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and others who worked in the plantations back in the day, the result is a nicely varied and interesting selection of choices."

  • "This was a great find for a restaurant. The food was excellent. The service was pretty quick. There isn't an special view which was the only disappointment."

  • "Seating too high. Because seating is too high, table is even higher. Table service could be a little quicker and server could be more attentive. Appetizers came out quickly but waited for main entre another 30 minutes after. Calamari too salty. For money spent, expected more."

  • "We loved the new restaurant and enjoyed having somewhere nice to eat while in the hotel. The food was good and so was the service. It is definitely an improvement."

  • "We have been looking for an exceptional restaurant in Maui for quite some time and now we have found it! Ko is everything we hoped it would be, from impecable service to the best in food preparation and taste. Our appetizers, Stir Fried Peppered Shrimp and Poke Bowl were a perfect blend of flavours. My Ginger Steamed fish was the best I have ever tasted. This blend of flavours tantalize the palette. My husband and daughter in law had lamb, cooked to perfection and again the most tender and tasty cut imaginable. Our son chose the rib steak and remarked that it was the best steak he had ever had. Our desserts were excellent. Our server Luiz was the best. We will be back."

  • "Beautiful gem of a restaurant hiddem away in the Fairmont Kea Lani. Excellent preparations and presentations of the food. My husband and I stayed at the Fairmont for 4 nights, and ate at Ko for 2! Only reason we didn't eat there all 4 nights, was because we didn't book early enough! lol Love it! Can't wait to come back. Extremely knowledgeable and courteous staff."

  • "The planation themed menu was interesting and it was fun to try some different takes on traditional items. Atmosphere was noisy. The room was very stuffy and hot with no air circulation. Service was inattentive and indifferent. With every course all the silverware was cleared and with each course, no new silverware was set. So we had to catch the eye of staff and request silverware with each of our courses. For the price, this kind of poor service should not be."

  • "We dined here on Valentine's day, and had a fabulous meal with wine pairing. The main course of sea bass, lobster/crabcake, wasabi mashed potatoes and asparagus was fantastic, and a giant portion. The dessert was delicious as well. The restaurant is open air, but we were stuck back in a corner, so I would recommend asking for a table out in the open."

  • "Our first time to KO, and it will not be our last. Just trying this restaurant out as a change of pace during our stay-cation at the Kea Lani, and it was an outstanding find! The food was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and informative of the menu and cuisine. I had the Lamb Chops, and it was amazing. My comment to our waiter "It is so good, I want to continue to chew, savor the flavor, and not swallow it!" It was my wife's birthday, and they brought over an amazing birthday dessert. We have been to some of the "finest" restaurants on the island (Mama's, Lahaina Grill, Nick's, etc.) and this was up there, and if not better than some. On top of it all, an amazing Ka'ama Aina deal! See you again real soon! Aloha!"

  • "I had the sugar cane sbrimp and scallops which were not seasoned at all. Very blanf and I was very dissapointed. My brotger and my mothers meals were excellent though. The waitress was amazing and we were very relaxed."

  • "Had the vegetable tempura. It was tasteless and over-priced. For the entree, had the scallop and prawns over noodles. The selection lacked seasoning of spices. Enjoyed the banana wrap dessert."

  • "Delightful preparations of local seafood with Asian flair. We had calamari with gochujang, opa steamed with ginger and shiitake, and japchae with shrimp and chicken. Nice portions that are worth the prices. Service was disconnected; no knowledgeable wine service and the fact that we had so many different servers throughout the meal, we never felt well attended to. Otherwise, a highly recommended dinner."

  • "We walked over to Ko from where we were staying to have dinner and the walk was the best part. We were anticipating good seafood and got uninspired food, terrible service and a really poor view. There were screaming kids, it took forever to get a drink or place our order. Would not go back."

  • "We are vacationing in Maui and a friend recommended Ko. The food was very expensive, which we don't mind if it is outstanding. It was not. If you must go there choose the appetizers over the entrees."

  • "The courses were amazing and varied in cusine types from all around the owrld influnces on Hawaii. Great sized portions tasty servings."

  • "Appetizers fantastic! Ahi poke, Kobe poke, calamari terrific. Bread, Portuguese roll, rice cake, with lavender butter, hummus, barbecue tasty and nice presentation. I had Chop Chae, with pork skewers, tasty shrimp, vegetables and yam noodles, husband had lobster tempura, both very good. Will go back again. Beautiful, relaxing setting. Service attentive. Not too busy, so able to have a 2 hour dinner, just right amount of time."

  • "I almost didn't give five stars all around for the food being outstanding and the live music so enjoyable because the four tables occupied next to us all had active toddlers. I love children but not when I'm trying to enjoy a $100 meal. I would blame the restaurant for not seating them in a separate section but I realize the problem lies with the parents' lack of consideration for other people trying to enjoy their meals."

  • "Unfortunately this was our 2nd time eating at Ko. We really enjoyed the food and service the first time we ate there, which was a year ago to celebrate both occassions. But this time around, my husband and I were disappointed with the VERY slow service and quality of food that was ordered!"
