A word from Knickerbocker Bar and Grill
Knickerbocker is known for its great Jazz and its 28 oz. T- Bone Steaks and is a favorite among many celebrities including F. Murray Abraham, Chris Noth and Ben Stiller. Rachel Ray listed us in her "NYC Favorites" and has praised our Shrimp Cocktail, Creamed Spinach, and of course our T- Bone Steaks. The word "Knickerbocker" itself, says "New York". Upon entering, you’ll know you're in the Village. Its wood paneled walls sport rare turn of the century posters and original caricatures by Al Hirschfield. Large leather booths line the walls and brass rails accent the 100 year old marble bar, where Charles Lindbergh signed his Trans Atlantic contract. We have survived the times by using the freshest ingredients from local markets, and offering good solid value and quality. Our wine list offers over 100 selections, most under $50. We serve until late (weekends 2:00 AM) and offer a Bistro Menu with lighter fare. We offer Brunch on the Weekends, and are open on all Holidays.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of my neighborhood go-to-spots when I need to have a business lunch. It's the perfect place with a great menu (the french onion soup is not to be missed) and attentive staff. "

  • "This is the second time we've dined at the Knickerbocker with a large group and both times the service and food were excellent. Portions are large, and every dish was deemed delicious. Our group ordered filet mignon, pasta, chicken pailliard, and burgers. One note I would make is to be sure that when ordering a kid's meal, one should confirm that it is to be billed as a kid's meal, and not as an adult's. My 10-year-old nephew ordered a hamburger after we had asked about kids' options, and he was given (and we paid for) a very large adult meal, which he could not finish. Also, the wine list by the glass is a bit limited, but I did enjoy the Bordeaux that I ordered."

  • "I'm a tourist from London and found out about the Knickerbocker via recommendation. The experience did not disappoint. The food was great, the customer service excellent. If you're a lover of steak try the T-bone...outstanding!"

  • "A group of us met for lunch at this restaurant and were very pleased that the quality of service and food was as good as it was when we dined there one year ago. On this particular occasion, the room was not full so we were privvy to the type of service reserved for VIPs. I dropped a fork on the floor and within seconds, someone appeared and scooped it up without skipping a beat. I ordered cheesecake from the dessert menu. It was especially light and creamy. I wish I'd ordered another slice to take home . Overall, it was one of those rare moments in a New York City restaurant where an ordinary lunch became an extraordinary experience. A big "Thumbs Up" to the Knickerbocker Bar and Grill."

  • "An upscale pub with deft service and a sprawling menu of comfort food. Not much culinary adventure here but a very pleasant, unchallenging experience."

  • "Knickerbocker used too be great - what happened? Our medium rare hamburgers could not have been more well done. Have you ever seen dark brown blue cheese? Well, it was a crust on the top of the burger. French fries were soggy. All of our meals (4) seemed to have spent far too much time broiling under heat lamps. When I told the waitress it was too well done and the blue cheese was awful she replied that is the way she like it!!! After years of eating here I don't know if I could bring my family back again!"

  • "We went to eat here on a recommendation and the place was superb! Food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. My two sons ate like kings and the desserts were absolutely outstanding. We shared the chocolate chip cookie in a pan and the chocolate crème broulet. I will definitely return and encourage others to give it a try if you are in the neighborhood!"

  • "Great place for a night out with the family! Our table was waiting for us when we arrived and we were met with a wonderfully friendly staff. Our waiter John was attentive and efficient. We were allowed to sit back, relax and take our time ordering dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and allowed us to speak and be heard. The food was fantastic. I would return absolutely !"

  • "A Manhattan classic. Delicious food and great ambiance. On most nights the majority of the crowd will have walked there. One of those rare gems flying under the radar."

  • "Mediocre food in a pleasant and comfortable setting that appears in need of a little refurbishing. Martinis were served in the traditional glass with a puddle of vermouth in it and a jigger of vodka on the side for us to pour. More like a vodka with some vermouth but not much like a traditionally made martini. Overcooked calves liver. Fish dishes nicely prepared. One round of drinks, no appetizers or sides, two coffees. and no desserts brought the bill close to $200 with tip for four of us. The waiter was exceptionally nice and attentive and, in fact, brightened up an otherwise disappointing evening"

  • "Good neighborhood restaurant. Roast chicken, steaks, and creamed spinach a definite choice. A bit noisy at night, but the jazz was good on Friday evenings."

  • "Was deciding between this and a more expensive steak restaurant for my sons bday dinner and was so pleased we chose this one. We had a delicious meal with excellent service and with the porterhouse for 4, which trust me the 4 of us are all hefty eaters there was still leftover steak for him to take home. Steaks were cooked perfectly. We shared a few appetizers including the caviar pie which all were delicious. The cornbread put on the table was also warm and fresh. The mashed potatoes were creamy and very buttery. For desert we had the chocolate soufflé with their warm chocolate sauce and cheesecake. Place was relaxed and comfortable, nothing fancy. Definitely a good choice without breaking the bank."

  • "This is our neighborhood go-to place - for hanging out, delicious burgers and steaks, a menu that is sure to please anyone and everyone. It's comfortable and relaxed. The food is well prepared. Their t-bone steak is as good as those at any steak house but you're not limited to steaks."

  • "From appetizers to dessert, everything was excellent. The beet salad with 3 types of beets and goat cheese was delicious as was everyone else's salads and the lobster bisque soup. Bass was broiled to perfection, as was the skirt steak. The standby t-bone for two (also comes for one, three or four) with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes was outstanding as always. There is also a very nice wine selection by the class or bottle. We ended with the choclate mousse cake for the table. Even with four of us we could not finish it. Our wait person was personable, efficient and a delight. We will be back often."

  • "Pricey for tough steak and ok sides. Nothing to write home about. It was loud, cramped and pricey. Really wanted to love it but it fell VERY SHORT OF DELICIOUS! Will not return."

  • "When a long time NY resident says it is their favoritr restaurant, that is a lot to live up to....but Knickerbocker did. we were told it was a "cocktail kind of place" and that held true, too. One small miss on one food item...and not a wine place...but other than that, perfection. we will defintely be back!"

  • "I took my fiance here for his 30th birthday because we both love this place and are very fond of it. It never disappoints...the food is great, the clientele is classy but not stuffy, the service and staff are pleasant, and the overall ambiance is just right. If you want a steakhouse that doesn't have a bunch of roundtables of dudes in suits, but isn't a "scene" either, then this is the perfect place. We've also noticed that there is a celeb in there almost every time we go, and they're treated just like any other neighborhood friend. As someone who has lived in NY for 10 years, I feel like Knickerbocker is that perfect spot for feeling at home while also feeling special and like it's a treat."

  • ". Nice atmosphere. Good food. Service odd. Not attentive to how our table was dining. Would hover, then would be absent for lengthy periods. Timing off. Had to return tomato bisque soup as it was quite cold. Took an extremely long time to bring back to the table; and then only tepid (a microwave would have solved the problem). All other food was quite good."

  • "Good steaks, but that's about the only good thing there. Waaaaay overpriced. Had a reservation and still had to wait over 20 minutes. Were seated and had to actually ask for menus. Then asked for the wine list, and waited really long for it. Then asked for a cocktails list and had to wait again. It was impossible to get anybody's attention because they were really busy and dramatically understaffed. Once we ordered (notice -- an hour past the reservation time) we were told that "we are very busy, so the steaks will take about an hour to get here". SERIOUSLY??? And to top it all, we got charged for staying past 9:45pm, which is when the music starts. We didn't want to stay so late -- they made us by taking so long! Hated it. So sad."

  • "Crowded, Noisy and Lousy service. The waitess seemed nice enough, but where was the food!!!!! All we ordered were burgers...I think they went out to kill the cow!!!!!"

  • "On a visit to New York my sons wanted to experience a New York steak house, and the Knickerbocker Bar and Grill lived up to its positive reviews. The steaks were great and the service was friendly. The restaurant combines a refined look with a pleasantly informal atmosphere, and is nicely located (Greenwich Village). We would come again."

  • "We take all our out-of-town guests to Knickerbocker. There is something on the menu to appeal to everyone. Great food, great service, cozy, clubby atmosphere... everyone loves it. Very "New York." Excellent Sunday brunch. Very nice bar for an early evening drink with friends. The staff is very accommodating."

  • "My husband and I are always checking out new steakhouses around the city. Sometimes we are in the mood but want to stay local. Knickerbockers always fits the bill. Starting with a shrimp cocktail was perfect. The T-Bone for 2 or a filet - our expectations are always met. The creamed spinach is a guilty pleasure. Our waiter was a tad patronizing but we did ok anyway."

  • "Low key, neighborhood place. Jazz on weekends, old school atmosphere. Been going here every trip to New York annually for the last 25 years. Wonderful steaks, food will not disappoint. Friendly staff, great bar, wood paneled walls, Hirschfeld prints and interesting entertainment posters."

  • "Food is great taste and big portion. The truffle french fries are so good. I love my overstuffed sandwich and my daughter loves her burger. We had a great time and sure will go back."

  • "From appetizer to dessert the dining experience was wonderful. The T-bone and Filet were excellent, as were the Monk fish and calves liver. We had a server, John, who was terrific; attentive without being over bearing, while his guidance was spot on."

  • "But we went for New Years - Let me caveat with I eat here weekly and love the regular menu. The New Years menu was a limited version of the regular menu, but was missing out on favorites. And while i know it's a steak place, we had one vegetarian in our group and there was nothing on the menu for her to eat and the chef grumbled that he had to accommodate her. Lastly the music charge was $28 and when we sat down at 9:30 the musicians went on a break and didn't come back until 11pm. I think Knickerbocker could be great for New Years with a few tweaks."
