Consistent food, nothing fancy,
but solid burgers and interesting spins on thai cuisine. They rotate the wine list frequently which also keeps things interesting."

Seems like there is something for
everyone on the menu. I am usually wary when a menu has too many options, but they seem to be able to pull it off. The short rib tacos were really good, the dancing queen was uninteresting, but fine. Ahi Scoops were tasty, and the millionaires way was a decadent delight."

There is a mixed bag of things to
order on the menu. At times I am a bit hesitant when eating at places that serve the more than usual variety of cuisines. I am a fan of fusion/infusion of cuisines but Kitchen Story did not have fusion type dishes. Came with a friend who had been here a couple time sin the past and she mentioned that everything she order was average and after this visit I am going to agree with her. We both order a version of their panang curry with roti and rice. Not too bad, not too bland. It was filling as almost all curries are especially paired with carbs. The samosa were also just ok... and quite pricy for only two pieces. Better restaurants in the area."

Disappointed that even though we
had a reservation, we were unable to be seated timely. In fact, we would up sitting at the counter which wasn't all that comfortable. Good food, disorganized restaurant staff."

The food was absolutely fantastic.
We had the ahi scoops, pumpkin fries, and sweet caroline eggplant dish to start. Our entrees were equally good, and my short rib tacos tasted great on day two as well. Everything was wonderful. Our server was sweet but not terribly attentive. The lighting is low and intimate which always makes for a pleasant evening for me."

Booked a late Friday PM dinner,
got a table, seated immediately. Food really good, nice presentation. Waiter forgot my wine but brought it right away after realizing. Clean. Nice staff. Definite eat there again."

Be careful of sitting near loud
groups of women at this restaurant - they can get quite loud! Makes it uncomfortable for other diners when the restaurant does nothing to keep them quiet. Overall, the ahi scoops were tasty, but the wines by the glass are overpriced relative to the selection (especially in SF where people know their wines...) The KS noodle soup was good, and nicely spiced with a good helping of seafood in it. I enjoyed that thoroughly. But the service that evening was semi-enthusiastic and we kept having to remind our waiter to take our order, bring our drinks, bring our second refill, etc., etc. I'm thinking the staff needs to be reminded that good service is a large part of what makes local restaurants successful."

After a 7 hr flight from Boston,
our family of 4 devoured the most memorable meal on a Saturday afternoon. We started with the ca. Yellowtail sliced paper thin with crisp shallots, lime & Thai basil (yum!) Had the slanted door spring rolls (think:Cheesecake Factory "thai lettuce wraps" style but add crispy halved spring rolls instead of chicken) super delish!! then a side dish of stir fried fresh/organic Brussels sprouts in a toasted sesame oil (amazing!) kids ordered the organic chicken clay pots with brown rice (flavorful), I had the grapefruit & jicama salad with red cabbage, carrots & candied pecans (to die for.... alive/freshness!) All I can say is that I wished I lived in SF! Food glorious food!"

Kitchen Story is so fit for
foodies! The flavors and spices are expectional. There is a wide array of choices that make your mouth water as you read the menu. The entire menu is great for sharing as well if you don't want a main for yourself. I will go back whenever possible to enjoy this wonderful cuisine!"

First time here. I think the
appetizers and small plate stuff get the highest marks. They are the most inventive and flavorful. The mains are just okay versions of good old standbys. The chicken noodle soup was okay and the chicken dry and tasteless. The pad thai was okay but skip it here and go to a Thai restaurant. The tofu salad was very good and the grilled eggplant dish was also an excellent blend of flavors and textures. Their version of mango sticky rice also gets high marks. Service is friendly."

This is the second time we've
dined at Kitchen Story. It's a perfect mash up of Asian, Indian, and American foods. I can't say that I've had anything that missed the mark here. It's all perfectly paired. The Millionaire's Bacon really is as good as the reviews say it is. I loved the fried chicken dish- crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It comes with a yellow curry dipping sauce, but the chicken is good with or without it. I highly recommend this place if you're tired of eating "New American", and are looking for something a little more inventive and different."

Kitchen Story never disappoints.
The food is solidlyand consistently good, the portion sizes are very large, and the service is well intentioned. I always enjoy the curries, pad thai, and the burger is worth the $18 price tag. Sweet potato chips are always brought to the table, and as for appetizers, the Castro Tower and pumpkin fries with dipping sauce are excellent choices. It gets crazy at brunch time (and they do not accept reservations for brunch), while dinner is still a well-kept secret with no waiting."

I went with a Party of 3. The
samosas and Fried calamari were very good although the dipping sauce for the calamari was really bland. I was the happiest with my entree. I ordered the Pop Belly which was delicious. My friends were not that impressed with their choices. While the service was friendly, the main dishes did not come to the table anywhere near at the same time. What?! Come on. We go to restaurants to to eat "together"."

A friend wanted to take me to
dinner in my 'hood in honor of a special birthday. I chose Kitchen Story because I had enjoyed it in the past. It was a quiet evening, which kept the noise down and allowed the staff to be relaxed and attentive. I've ordered one of their signature appetiers, the spicy fried calamari in the past and really enjoyed it, but this time it was saturated in oil and not very tasty. The salmon was dry and lacked flavor. Although we chose not to order dessert, no mention was made by the staff of my "special" birthday, though I had noted it on the reservation. It wasn't an unpleasant evening - just not as good as it could have been."

I was in search for the perfect
birthday brunch locale. I got a reccomendation from a friend first, but later a website article given to me by a foodie confirmed it was possibly the best idea. I was sold as soon as I saw breakfast was served all day and of course the bottomless mimosas for $16 bucks. Last, but not least the Fransico Benidict was so tasty with avocado and bean sprouts! I will say for not being very busy we were sat in the way back and continuously neglected by our server, but despite this I was satisfied with my meal. I will be back and recommend Kitchen Story to others."

This is the second time I have
dined at Kitchen Story. The first time I had a fine experience. Nothing amazing but I did have my 4 year-old daughter with me and they were fairly accommodating so that was a plus. This second visit, I brought my friend who is gluten-free (not by choice). Neither the waiter or the chef(s) were helpful in suggesting recommended GF options. It was rather stressful and my friend ended up with a salad, dressing on the side. So, I give them poor ratings on the service and the food was just average."

Went here for New Year's Eve and
it was a busy night but the staff and service was very good. Everyone loved their entrees and it was a fun night for our group of 6. A bit on the noisy side since its a small place and one table was pretty loud. But I think it's a real neighborhood gem and will be back for sure."

Interesting place best if you are

Every experience at Kitchen Story
has been wonderful with it's friendly and attentive staff and deliciously interesting menu. When faced with bringing foodie friends out for dinner before a show at Civic Center, Kitchen Story was my pick. My friends specified their preferences. It needed to be delicious (check!). It needed to be easy to get to and park (check!). Finally, it needed to be intimate and quiet unlike the Civic Center restaurants that are crowded and noisy during pre-performance evenings (check!). Well deserved, Kitchen Story just earned three new admirers. My guests raved about the food and how perfectly our experience added to a special evening."

Had to find a place for a quick
breakfast on my way out to Napa, had the frisco benedict, it was very good...very filling but not heavy. the portions are a little too huge, but thats fine....the millionaires bacon was sooo good."

The food is just not good. Of my
table of four, the pork shank was the only thing that was edible. The salmon came out dried and crusty with a rubbery texture. My scallop sandwich was covered oil and mayo that was insufficient to cover the fishy smell of the scallops.Their bacon is amazing, but it overpowers the flavor of everything around it. The restaurant itself was cute, but it was really cold (the table next to us had a space heater!). Maybe their brunch is better, but I wouldn't go back."

It was really surprised that the
food was so great! although, it could be a bit cheaper. it seems as if fusion always adds another $3 per entrée. also, it was a bit off putting to get sparkling water served out of a plastic bottle. im all for down home style...but at a down home pricetag. okerrr. service was superb. waiter was super cute. and our city supervisor was dining at the table down from us! what a special treat! I hear its amazing for brunch too. definitely get the tuna ceviche with avocado and the fried chicken. the bacon is overrated but still quite delish. and the portions are generous. a shared app and a shared entrée will do the trick (and save on the bill!)"

I think this restaurant is worth a
try. While I recommend it, I don't recommend it highly. I found that the service was great and the food was average for SF. It wasn't bad at all. In fact, the flavors were tasty. I just left wanting something more. I felt that I ate someplace different from the other reviews. Some examples were that the batter on the fried chicken wasn't cooked all the way through, the dipping sauces were not too dip-able (a bit thin), and the best part about the meals were the fries (says something right there). But, I would say that the service was quite attentive. In the end, I liked the food less than others and liked the service more. But, I would agree, the noise level is beyond reasonable."
