Diner Reviews
  • "I had a great experience at the Kinzie Chop House. This was the perfect place to take my out of town family for a nice meal. We had a wonderful server. He was very informative, attentive to our needs, had a great sense of humor and was able to carry a conversation with my very talkative family. Our steaks were cooked to our specifications and were very good. We had a table near a window, but my one issue with the experience was that the seating was a bit cramped and the table was a little small."

  • "Thsi is one of our favorite places to dine in the city. Very nice surroundings. Very broad menu and wine list for a steak house. So many great options beyond their wonderful steaks. Easy to accomodate a broad range of palates."

  • "This was our first time here and we loved it. We definitely wanna come back. The food was PERFECT! And they gave me an amazing birthday treat unexpected! My only complaint is how small the space is. We kept running into people. And the bathroom was even smaller."

  • "Very good restaurant. We are going back soon. Excellent steaks."

  • "There are too many great restaurants in Chicago to recommend this one. Two of the four of us had to send our steaks back. The service was in a word POOR."

  • "It was very crowded, and took us a while to even get a drink at the bar. Our table was delayed about 30 minutes...........and it was still fantastic. The bartenders and servers knew they were running behind and did everything they could to make sure we still enjoyed ourselves. Food was great, and priced fairly enough for a quality Steakhouse in a great location. Will absolutely go back."

  • "Second time dining at Kinzie, and it was once again nothing short of fabulous. Server seemed busy at first and we didn't see him much, but he more than made up for it once he was able to! We always recommend this restaurant to peoe and will certainly be returning. ALWAYS ask about the evening specials; they are always phenomenal"

  • "With so many chop houses in Chicago, a visitor must choose wisely. We've been to a lot of them over the years, but this was our first visit to Kinzie's. It was very good. Nice, well-stocked bar with nice ambiance, although prices for some of the whiskeys are way too high (experienced drinker). The main dining area was hopping with lots of energetic groups. Our server gave us a nice "visual rundown" of the various steaks Kinzie is known for, and they all looked great. We were coming off the weekend, so went in a different direction. We shared the tuna tartare appetizer, which was very good. My wife had the halibut dinner, and loved it. I had the calamari chop salad, and that was good too. Overall, a nice experience at Kinzie."

  • "Kinizie Chop house is a great restaurant. Service is always outstanding and very nice atmosphere. Great selection of steaks and prepared just as requested. We enjoyed the 14 oz Cow Girl and the Rib-Eye Fillet. We also enjoy their pastas- smoke salmon rigatoni and duck breast pasta. Has a quiet and romantic atmosphere."

  • "Our family of 4 dined there for my son's birthday. We normally wouldn't choose a chop house when dining downtown-but the birthday boy is a steak-lover. However we all had great meals- fish special and scallop appetizer were perfect for my daughter. Bone in filet and filet were tender and tasty love that you can get a variety of toppings and sauces, like the whiskey peppercorn. As for my son- the ironic thing was he could NOT chew a steak- or pretty much anything- because he was "jumped" 2 blocks from his apt. Luckily no broken jaw- just a broken nose. So he asked for a "rain check" when he can chew and swallow-and not be in agony as he salivated watching us eat filets! Since it was so good we are happy to oblige, and will be back soon."

  • "I chose this restaurant to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We were hosting out of town guests. The staff accommodated our larger group warmly. The food was outstanding as was the ambience."

  • "I don't think I've ever asked as many questions and took as Lon to order as I have at Kinzie. All the questions were encouraged and answered thoughtfully and thoroughly. The options for steak cuts were presented and described before we ordered allowing the choice of exactly what would make an excellent dinner. The bread, salad (wedge) and sides (creamed corn and creamed spinach) were as excellent as the steak. The wait staff was attentive and friendly eager to please and ensure the dining experience was perfect."

  • "Very good steaks and fish. The chicken pot pie is tasty but the fact that the crust isn't baked on to the pie but, rather, just sits there on top indicates that it's not made to order. Good wines and drinks. A very good Chicago-style steak house to have in the neighborhood."

  • "We went to Kinzie Chop House for our rehearsal dinner. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They made sure that we had everything that we needed, ensured that everyone's food was satisfactory, and overall, made the night spectacular. I'd recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE!"

  • "My husband and I loved Kinzie Chop House! I am a sucker for prime rib and it was wonderful! It was a larger cut than I am used to, but I made up for it by not getting a salad. My husband's filet was cooked perfectly too. We sampled a few of the complimentary sauces they provide and enjoyed the different tastes. The service was wonderful and our waiter was very knowledgeable and knew when to check on us and when to leave us alone. We would definitely go back next time we are in Chicago and have told friends to check it out!"

  • "Kinsey Chophouse was recommended to us by one of our favorite waitors in Chicago as being a lovely, romantic restaurant for our first dinner together after our marriage. We were definitely not disappointed! Our meal was spectacular! Every dish was carefully prepared and tasted even better than our expectations. Our service was exceptional, and our waitor not only took care of our every need, but he even brought out a special congratulations desert for us and secured us a taxi after dinner. We will definitely return the next time we visit Chicago!"

  • "Kenzie's is my steak house of choice. You can't beat the price for what you experience. If you have never gone to this steak house I highly recommend it. It is a good place for a date, but even better place to go to with a group. I've been to Chicago Cuts and other steak houses that compete with Kenzie's and I would rate Kenzie's at the top of my list. It is the cheapest, and the atmosphere is much more comfortable than most steak houses. I been to Kenzie's at least five times and each experience is better than the next. I highly recommend you go here."

  • "great waiter who was attentive to our group of six. He gave a wonderful primer on the types of steak available that was the talk of the table. None of us had gotten a 'primer' on steak before. We could hear each other talk, which is something lost on to many restaurants these days. Overall, a great meal and an enjoyable time"

  • "I took my Mom and brother here during a visit to Chicago earlier this week. Pretty traditional steakhouse menu, but the ambiance and feel are less heavy-handed and pretentious than other big bucks restaurants. Excellent wine list, by the glass or bottle. Superb glass of Cabernet before the meal, and a more complex, subtle Shiraz that went with the food very well. Blackened scallop appetizer - not to be missed - very fresh, sweet sea scallops, dusted and blackened with Cajun spice, with a Dijon cream garnish. Steaks were prepared exactly as requested, medium well, well done and medium rare. Sides - mushrooms, spinach were delicious. Service was how I like it, attentive but only there when we needed it. Nicely prepared desserts."

  • "We arrived at 1930 and were seated promptly. Service was slow throughout our dinner. Steaks were great and the smoked pork chop delicious. We had three different waiters. One was young and forgot much and two were condescending. It was a forgettable experience. There are many more dining options in Chicago. We will not return."

  • "Took my dad here for a nice Father's Day Meal - It was our first trip to the Kinzie Chophouse. It had been recommended by a friend and was very near to our hotel (Kinze Hotel). My dad received a free wine flight and dessert due to it being Father's Day. Our steaks were wonderful and the sides were big enough to share. I brought my 6 year old daughter as well….they offered a kids menu and coloring page. Knowledgeable server. Great atmosphere and location. Will be back again!"

  • "This was our second time here and the service was amazing. We had a reservation, but were about an hour late and they still seated us promptly (it was 9PM). The waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable about the items on the menu and offered his suggestions. The front desk staff was nice and very attentive. The ambiance is unmatched for a small, under the L, restaurant. It was romantic and candlelit with soft music. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the meal the chef creates. Overall, it is a great atmosphere, calm vibe, and great customer attentiveness and service."

  • "Love the béarnaise sauce though the steak didn't need it. I would say I should have ordered my usual filet mignon- but the waiter (and my aunt) did persuade me the rib-eye filet would be more flavorful. I am a foodie, but I couldn't tell the difference except in chewing. They encourage you to split sides, which is a good idea as they are large. Good wine selection by the glass, and some very reasonably priced bottles as well. All in all a great experience. Waiter very attentive (they introduce you to your steak) without being intrusive. Had no idea naked bike riders would be evening entertainment...from the looks on everyone else's faces, neither did they! Seating was a little tight. Thank you for the surprise, complimentary cheesecake!"

  • "The restaurant had a prix fixe menu with a very reasonable price. We had the beef medallions and shrimp and chicken. The beef medallions were wonderful but the chef had substituted fried popcorn shrimp for the advertised jumbo shrimp and those were very disappointing with no flavor. They should have simply provided another steak medallion instead. The chicken was excellent. Dessert was average on the fixed price menu. Other choices seemed nicer that were not available in that menu. I would visit this restaurant again. Excellent service."

  • "We have dined at this place several times. Every single time our Service and Food has been excellent. We have tried many things on the menu and haven't had anything but exceptional food every time. Our waiters have been great as well. Every time we have a guest come in town we take them to Kinzie. Thanks for being Awesome guys. You make a great dining experience every time!"

  • "Food was very good, quiet for good conversation, and service was excellent. My only complaint is that the table for 4 should have been a table for 2 or 3. Not big enough to accommodate all the tableware, breadbasket, shared appetizers, and sides. "

  • "I was looking for someplace special to take my daughter, who just graduated High School, for a celebration dinner. I reviewed lots of options ranging from the restaurant in the Hancock building to a lake cruise and decided to opt for good food instead of the city views. This restaurant was recommended to me by a co-worker who is a life-long Chicagoan and said it's the best steak in the city. Well I have to agree. Everything was wonderful from start to finish and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her special night out. "

  • "Drove in from out of town and arrived an hour prior to our reservation. They immediately (not 15 minutes, more like 15 seconds) accommodated us. The service was simply top notch. The food was excellent. Not some of it...All of it. Will definitely be back next time we are in Chicago."

  • "When I was in Chicago on business, I was determined to find a great steakhouse. Happy to report that I did...I conducted a Yelp search and Kinzie Chop House came up with rave reviews. Got there on the early side, the service was top-notch, very attentive server, but he didn't hover. I can honestly say the Ribeye Filet steak I had was just about the most delicious I've ever had. My daughter's filet came out a bit more well done than she liked, and it was whisked away promptly and a replacement, which was prefect, came out minutes later. The manager came to the table and was very apologetic. All in all, a wonderful meal experience. "

  • "From the moment we walked in this evening was made special by the staff at Kinzie Chop House. The bartender (with the Irish accent) was very friendly and poured an excellent drink. The hostess was very nice and provided us with an excellent booth to celebrate our special occasion (graduation and job promotion). The porterhouse steak was fantastic and very flavorful. My girlfriend had peppercorn halibut and it too was outstanding although she was told to go light on the peppercorn and it was very light. The house bought us a congratulatory dessert that was perfect. The food and staff made this night a memorable winner."
