Diner Reviews
  • "Our group of 5 had a spectacular dinner on Saturday evening at the Kinzie Chop House. Sam, our server was excellent - friendly, attentive and caring, but not overly involved - a perfect balance. The food was excellent and really made each of us very happy. We will be back!"

  • "Besides the delicious food, the service was excellent. Our waiter Javier was spectacular. Very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. "

  • "Kinzie Chop House is a steady performer in terms of offering a solid selection of good entrees. No matter what you order, you are very unlikely to have a bad meal there. The service is generally good, as well. Still, the place is overpriced for the level of quality that they deliver. I'll go here a few times a year, almost always for a business lunch, but it's not on my go-to list."

  • "From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted by all hostesses. Our waiter, was extremely attentive and excellent in providing recommendations. It was a great place to celebrate a birthday!"

  • "Had dinner there on 4/12 with 3 colleagues. Good experience. My bone-in tenderloin came out medium rare, just as ordered. Brussels sprouts side was very good. Wedge salad was uninspired though. Large wedge with a spritz of blue cheese and bland whitish dressing. I asked for more dressing and blue cheese which was cheerfully delivered in a tiny cup just like Applebee's. Disappointing. But, the steak was pretty good. Better than I had the previous evening at a nearby Chicago steakhouse."

  • "With the plethora of steakhouses in the Chicago area, choosing one over the other can be a daunting task. Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Smith and Wolensky are nationwide chains and can be found anywhere, so I decided to try something with a more "local" flavor. Tucked underneath the "El" train tracks, the exterior of Kinzie is not overly inviting, but stepping into the restaurant definitely has a neighborhood feel. Our waiter, Marcus, was outstanding, attentive, and knowledgeable. Kinzie features a typical great steakhouse menu, with favorite standards, and the food does not disappoint. All in all, Kinzie is an excellent choice for a Chicago steakhouse."

  • "We found this restaurant close to our hotel during a vacation trip. Short story: the place is compact and cozy, our waiter was friendly and very competent, and the food was great. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Tucked beneath the "el", this River North gem boasts neither a fancy exterior nor a glittery entryway. Inside, it's a meat lover's heaven, with fare served by some of the most knowledgeable, and gracious, restaurant staff in Chicago. Accommodating to both locals and out-of-towners, they go out of their way to serve you some of the best meat and accompaniments in Chicago. Great food, nice people. What could be better? We're from New York City, and we make it our business to visit Kinzie Chop House every time we visit the Windy City."

  • "Great meat presentation, good service. I am from Spain and came for work for a week. As I am used to top level cuisine I was not disappointed by this restaurant - returned twice this week."

  • "I have had dinner here many times but hadn't been in a few years. I took a female client for lunch. Food was great. We were able to hear each other talk. Menu was diverse. Service was great. Looking forward to coming again soon."

  • "While in Chicago, we went two days in a row for happy hour. Was very pleased with food and assortment of drinks. Very good happy hour menu."

  • "The food was ok, good but not great. Service was above average. We went a little out of our comfort zone with the flat iron steak and the center cut rib eye. The dipping sauces are a nice touch but we tend to have our steaks plain. The sides were ok, nothing special. In this competitive category there are better choices."

  • "My husband and I came here on a Sunday night for some steak. We were visiting from out of town and the prices and menu choices looked good. I ordered the filet and I think the husband had the ribeye. Both steaks were cooked to perfection and delicious. Best part about it is it came with 4 different dipping sauces, which was a unique and nice touch! We ordered a side of mac-n-cheese and that was also very good. When we are back in Chicago we would definitely like to come here again."

  • "Kenzies went above and beyond to help make our night special for my wife and I celebrating our anniversary! At the end they brought out a fabulous chocolate chip cookie pie with Happy Anniversary wrote on the dish! Very thoughtful!"

  • "Less hectic than other steak houses in Chicago, the food is excellent and one can actually carry on a conversation. It is our favorite go-to steak house in the city; although I generally order the ahi tuna and my husband orders the pork tenderloin. A must -try if you have never been!"

  • "Our server was excellent - he explained the menu and steak options very well. He was prompt and pleasant in his service. The steaks were done to perfection - 2 filets and 1 NY strip. A little pricey, but not too bad for donwtown Chicago. Nice decor, multpile rooms so not just one giant room."

  • "I was very excited to try a new Chicago chophouse and Kinzie did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in the door I knew it was going to be awesome. The atmosphere was amazing and the food even better. I had been told the Delmonico was the steak of choice for Kinzie so went with the dry-aged Delmonico, it was perfect! Great sides in the wild mushroom risotto, asparagus and a fantastic bottle of Cab to set the meal off. Very much high point of our weekend in Chicago."

  • "Too many other options in Chicago. Steak was okay, when I was expecting much better. Service was good, but I will go elsewhere next time."

  • "The Ribeye steak was extremely poor and lacked flavor you would expect form a steak house. However, my guest did enjoy the salmon very much. In my opinion I would pass on this restaurant and try another steak restaurant. One added note, the spinach side was good."

  • "My boyfriend and I were visiting Chicago for St Patricks Day weekend. We wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner but didn't want to spend a ton of money! Kinzie's was fantastic! The food was incredible and the wine and beer menus were great too! The only complaint that I have was that we sat at a really small table in the corner against a wall which was nice because it was private, but it was a tight squeeze when you try to cut steak!"

  • "While visiting Chicago, I went to Kinzie Chop House for the first time and it was excellent. From the time to walking in, to the table service, to leaving, they knew how to provide top notch service. The waiter took the time to bring out the various cuts of steak and explain each one. During my next visit to Chicago, this will definitely be on my list to return."

  • "I made reservations for three, my two adult sons and myself. We were originally taken to a table directly in front of the kitchen door. It was not crowded. I asked to be moved. We were given a little better table and eventually moved yet again. Orders were taken only to be told shortly after that they'd run out of two of the meals ordered.Food was delivered and we all experienced the same in that vegetables were not really hot. We chose not to complain. Seemed to us the more we spent, the more responsive the staff became. I think we were given a free dessert for all of the inconveniences. Likely a lovely place for those they know that frequent the place. I don't think that when I'm in town again, I'll frequent the place."

  • "Fantastic. Everyone liked their food. I tried the mahi mahi, the dry aged rib eye, and I had the bone in pork chop. The pork chop was the best, but only because it was on of the best pork chops I have ever eaten (not hyperbole). The steak was really good too. The only think I will say is the risotto was not my favorite, just to creamy for my taste. Someone else at the table ate it and thought it was really good. Just preference I guess. I even thought the menu was a pretty well priced compared to other steakhouses."

  • "Our most recent destination in our tour of Chicago steakhouses. They had some interesting steaks that I wasn't familiar with and the waiter brought several cuts out to help us compare. I went with the dry-aged Delmonico. It came bone-in, which is not what I was expecting, but it wasn't a big deal for me. The steak was excellent, among the best I've had here so far. The lady ordered the 8oz filet. It was a pretty weak cut, most likely from the end of the tenderloin, and it appeared very flat on the plate. It was so-so. After the steaks were brought out the waiter basically disappeared so we had trouble ordering wine. Never saw the guy again, I hope he's okay."

  • "We enjoyed the meal we had there. The steaks were seasoned well, and were cooked as ordered. The value for the meal served was moderate, but worth it. The sauteed spinach with mushrooms were very good, and I personally liked the wine (I had a cote de noir). I'll definitely go back."

  • "This was my first trip to Kinzie Chop House for a business lunch meeting. The food and service was very good. Next time I would asked to be seated further away from a table of 4-6 to avoid group conversation. Will definitely return in the future"

  • "Maybe it was an off night. My husband has gone for lunch and loved it, but I was pretty disappointed. We had the staples - mac&cheese, asparagus, caesar salads, key lime pie - which were all solid. What we came for - the meat! - was only so-so. My filet had a piece of fat that was impossible to cut through and it was almost too charred on the outside, although they got the medium rare right. The bernaise was almost inedible. The service was so-so...the guys bringing out the food kept mixing up our orders with the table next to us, which got annoying after awhile. The ambiance was romantic and cozy for a steakhouse, which was great for date night. Glad we went once, but I won't be going back."

  • "I've been sto several steakhouses in Chicago including Sullivan's, Gibsons, Morton's and Primehouse-this ranks with those. The appetizers (oysters and Grilled Shallots) were amazing and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend Kinzie Chophouse!"

  • "Wanted a 'real' steakhouse experience-not the usual chain. The reviews were mostly positive about food and service--and very pointed about this being elegant but without the canned chain experience. They were spot on. Was there with my daughter when I was in town on business. Had a terrific meal. Steaks were done perfectly and very tasty and sides and wine were outstanding. My only disappointment was we were not offered the explanation of the different steaks and preparations as mentioned in the reviews and as we saw being done around us. Next time I'm in Chicago with my wife, I will definitely take her there to get the Chicago steakhouse experience."

  • "We were seated in the quiet back room, which had beautiful photos and wall-mounted lights (two light-fountains, and a mini gas-fireplace). Our server struck the perfect balance of professionalism and charm - being available as needed without hovering or interrupting. The steaks were perfectly cooked, as were the sauteed brussels sprouts and asparagus. The dinner service was timely, but not rushed and allowed us to make our show across the river at the Palace Theater. Overall, an excellent evening/dinner (and the final check was quite reasonable for a Chicago chophouse, which was nice, too)."
