A word from King's Arm Tavern
After Jane Vobe opened the King’s Arms Tavern in 1772, it became one of the town’s most genteel establishments. She once described it as a place “where the best people resorted.” Today, the tavern remains true to her words. From the finest furnishings to the most gracious service, the King’s Arms Tavern offers musical entertainment in an elegant environment.

Enter the rustic reproduction tavern and be greeted by a server dressed in the fashion of the 18th century. Hear “the news of the day” from a citizen of Williamsburg. Choose from a chophouse menu, featuring prime rib, pork chops, and roasted lamb.

We made reservations, and couldn't quite remember exactly what the atmosphere was like from our last visit about 15 years ago. We were visiting with "foodie" friends and this was there first experience here. We were not disappointed, everything as we remembered as we walked into the door and back into time!! Waiter was just wonderful and entertainment perfect. The best salmon we have had in a long time. My prime rib was perfect!!!

It is always enjoyable to dine in historic Colonial Williamsburg as our founding fathers dined. The food was delicious, my wife and I both had the prime rib! And the atmosphere, waitstaff and entertainers truly take you back to the colonial times. They all stay in character to give you an "historic experience"!!

No trip to Williamsburg would be complete without dining at one of the Colonial style restaurants in the restored area. This visit to Williamsburg included a dinner at the Kings Arms on a cold and windy Saturday night. As usual the service and food were quite good and returning to eat there is like a seeing an old friend after a long absence. The entrees are expensive but the food and ambiance make the dining experience worthwhile. My wife and I both ordered the prime rib along with the usual additions of vegetables, potatoes and bread. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and were hot when served. Our server was quite friendly and knowledgeable and provided a good bit of conversation during our meal. We've never been disappointed in the quality of food, the atmosphere of the restaurant or the entertainment at the King's Arms and will likely return there when we visit Williamsburg again.

Kings Arms is in historic Williamsburg and waiters/waitresses are dressed in period costume. The food as well is geared to the colonial period. Food is excellent and servers are very knowledgeable of the historic period they are presenting food from. There is a strolling minstrel that goes through the rooms. It is best to make reservations or you may not get in. Could be quite pricy if you are a family with a number of children. I highly recommend The Kings Arms and plan on returning.

My family loves to stop here when we are in Colonial Williamsburg. The atmosphere is delightful, all wood paneling and lit by candles. The food is always delicious, whether ordering off the menu or a nightly special. The pecan pie is my favorite ever.

A must -do as part of the "Williamsburg Experience". Annecdotes, music, history, costumed servers and staff were entertaining. The food was very good, just not outstanding. I had the prime rib and there was an excessive amount of waste. My tablemates had seafood macaroni and salmon which were probably the better choices. All staff were extremely friendly.

My wife and I have been visiting Kings Arms for over 30 years. We have never had a bad meal here. All of the food is authentic, flavorful, and prepared to order. The decor brings us back to Colonial times, and the period entertainment makes for a great meal. We dined on fresh Salmon and Prime Rib, and bothe were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The baked meringue dessert is one of my wife's all time favorites. This place never disappoints. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing remains constant - you always get a delicious meal that brings you back in time. I only hope I can keep coming back to Kings Arms for another 30 years. It's that good.

We traveled 3000 miles on a trip which included a dinner at the King's Arms(with reservations) only to find the restaurant had a mechanical problem (?) and we were herded to Campbell's Tavern into a crowded room with mediocre service and passable food. Expensive. Not a good restaurant and a disappointing experience

  • Kings Arms or Christiana Campbells?
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 11/2/2014
On a recent trip to Wmbg. with my husband & 3 grandchildren, I made reservations for Kings Arms well in advance for the 5:15 seating. Upon arrival, we found out that Kings Arms was having technical difficulty and we would be eating at Campbell's. We got no text to advise us of the change ahead of time so that we could make the adjustment (an important factor with 3 small children & no car). Once at the restaurant, we were seated in a back corner of a porch & our food took a very long time to arrive. I made arrangements ahead of time for one gluten free meal for my granddaughter. That request could not be honored at Campbell's. With all my advance planning & for the expensive prices, this was a let down.

I grew up in Richmond in the 1950s, and the family has visited Williamsburg and dined at the King's Arms over the years. My memory might be fuzzy, but I thought that the menu used to do a better job of re-creating recipes from the 18th century. Except for the Game Pie and a few other items, most of the offerings can be found at any other restaurant. I think that visitors really are ready to try an adventure by dining on dishes quiet unfamiliar if indeed authentic to the Colonial period.

We love this tavern. The food is not "foodie"' but the whole meal was delicious. We both had the beef collops (don't know if that is spelled right). The meat was perfectly cooked and tender. I could eat a bucket of the creamed spinach. We don't usually eat dessert, so I can't vouch for that, but our server was Russell, and he was very attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, a wonderful evening.

We live here in Williamsburg and were anxious to give our visitors from the mid-west a bit of the feel for colonial dining. Kings Arms Tavern did just that from the server to the strolling balladeer. The only light in the room is from candles inside of hurricane globes on the dining tables. Kings Arms provides history and the atmosphere that a visit to Colonial Williamsburg should include!

They really go all out with only candles to provide light during your entire experience. Enjoyable food, and the roaming musicians make the experience all that more charming. I was actually able to have a conversation because music wasn't being piped in the entire time! No frills in the presentation of the food, but the tastes are out of this world no matter what your pleasure.

setting was nice with candle light and pretty tableware. Period costumed servers. The food was a bit pricey. Servings were generous so made up for in that regard. Desert was huge! Plan to share if you order cake or bread pudding. Food was good with nice flavors and as we expected. While this meal did not knock our socks off, it was still a solid 4. We preferred Chownings the night before. Quieter and a bit tastier. It was fun to hear from the servers some interesting facts about 18th century dining. Took good care of one picky kid eater with Mac and cheese or non- commercial chicken strips. They were well turned out.

We really enjoyed the unique ambiance. Servers are dressed in period clothes and explain some eating habits of the 18th century. At night the only lighting was by candlelight which made it dim, but romantic and seemingly authentic. For this reason, I would NOT recommend dinner time for very young children. We tried the peanut soup for lunch and both got the chicken pie. The soup was surprisingly rich and delicious! Hubby wanted The Hunter's pye, so we decided to go back for dinner! Using my phone, I used opentable.com to make reservations. The chicken mushroom soup was also good. He enjoyed his Hunter's pye. Save room for pie. Their pecan pie, which is made on site, is fantastic! From now on, all pecan pie will be measured by theirs!

I visited the King's Arm Tavern with family last week and we were all extremely impressed with our entire experience. This is the quintessential gem as far as Colonial Williamsburg is concerned; tucked into the heart of the old historic district, this restaurant encapsulated everything that an old tavern should. Everything from the soups to the side dishes to the entrees were spectacular, though I would certainly highlight the Hunter's Game Pie, as this is very well made and a very unique find. Expect to be impressed with the beautifully antiquated ambiance that takes one back centuries, and to be serenaded with live traditional music near your table. Our server John was a true professional and really helped create an unforgettable memory.
