  • "First impressions are everything to me. So I have high expectations for my first visit to a restaurant. I had heard great things about the food at Kingfish but otherwise did not know much about the restaurant. I had made a reservation so when we arrived we were greeted and seated almost immediately. The server, Chris, was entertaining and full of knowledge about the food. My guest and I both had cocktails; and they were amazing (French 75 and Bramble). From the appetizer to the main courses, we were grinning from ear to ear. The menu provided us with many options to try things we had never eaten before and our meals came out cooked to perfection. Very impressed with my first visit meaning I will be back soon."

  • "Service was attentive, prompt, and friendly, and drinks were spectacular. Though praised by a friend, the food was just okay. The cracklin's were good, though a little cold and more chewy than cracklin' (the best piece was at the very bottom of the dish). I expected this app to be on the greasy side (it is fried skin after all), but hoped it would be a bit crisper. Instead of smoky, the Alligator Wings Confit were simply too sweet, consisting mostly of breading and bone. The Pickled Mirliton & Corn Bread Dressing had very little of the squash (and I couldn't detect any of the pickling). It was tasty, but I hoped for more balance between vegetable and bread."

  • "5 of us made a 9:15 reservation. We arrived a bit early and they had a spot for is so we sat right away. Our waiter was knowledgable and really enthusiastic about the food. He anticipated a few questions and gave us his favorites as well. The cocktail list gave us lots to choose from. It is inventive and everything was delicious. I had a bourbon/champagne with muddled jalepeño. We ordered apps and mains to share. Fried green tomatoes were especially delicious as was a pork belly confit. The mains: pork shank, boursette (little pasta purses) with cheese and crab, grilled flounder over crawfish risotto, and scallops were excellent. The service was perfect - attentive but never rushing and we closed out the restaurant a little after 11."

  • "We had a lovely dinner, sand although menu seemed limited, there were good choices. My companion's pot pie looked great, and my fish was cooked to perfection. Our server was knowledgable and gave us good guidance. Sweet potato waffle shrimp appetizer - wow! Good time and good food for all!"

Although could have something to do with the enormous pimms cup one of us had first. Dishes were flavorful and presented well and staff was friendly and informed from the hostess to the servers.   • "We waited a around 25 minutes for our table (reservation was at 9:45) but the bar & bartender made the wait worthwhile. Opentable made it easy to make the reservation online & we were fortunate to find a reservation at short notice (we made the reservation at 6:30). Location was easy to find and there are several parking garages nearby. The hostess was very friendly and knew where we were at the bar when it came time for our table (didn't have to say our name).We would definitely come again when back in New orleans. A lovely place and would highly recommend."

  • "The first time I went to Kingfish--about 10 months ago--it was outstanding from top to bottom. A return visit this past week was less than stellar. Spotty service, sloppy plating, a dish missing components, and a few other things really soured me on returning again."

  • "I love the food here in NOLA, and I understand there may have been a Chef change, but.... The Gumbo was without flavor. I've never been tempted to put salt and pepper in Gumbo, but I was here... Taste your food before sending it out. The Cedar Plank Drum was ok, and Drinks good. Final opinion, not worth the money."

  • "Had heard Kingfish was famous for their cocktails. Our drinks were dissapointing as they lacked flavor and pizazz!. We had the 2 entrees that were recommended by other reviewers - the Gulf Fish on Himalayan Rock Salt which was good and the duck with ramen noodles. The duck meat itself was tasty but got lost in the very oily and salty mess of the ramen noodles. The noodles were overcooked and had too much soy sauce and duck grease. Too bad! The bartenders were both very friendly but the waitstaff, although nice, seemed awfully rushed. Would not return to Kingfish as there are other better restaurants around. Location is very convenient in the Quarter."

  • "Lived up to the other reviews. Cocktails were excellent - thanks Brigston - meal was also very good. Crab Chop actually had tons of crabmeat and can see why its a favorite - butternut squash-lobster bisque - man-0-man; drum was good - a tad mushy but very flavorful - many return visits planned - especially happy hour 2 - 7 with $8 small plated and 1/2 off wine & beers"

Order drink and he hovered asking repeatedly if we wished to order our mains. Not even if we'd like to order and appetizer. Wish we had more time to sit and enjoy the view and conversation with our guests"

  • "Eight people in my party. I'd say that everyone was satisfied but no one was "wowed." We're a tough group to please however. I had the rabbit which had a very nice reduction. Somewhat salty and others in the group said their dish was also too salty. We ordered one of each desert and got an extra one which we did not order which I thought might have been complimentary. However it was on our bill. We ate it of course and I just paid for the extra desert but it should never have made it to the bill. Service was professional."

  • "Kingfish was OK. After a long day, all I wanted was a drink and some time to relax and peruse the menu. Before we could get a word out, the waiter proceeded to take 15 minutes to explain every dish on the menu. Had I had a drink in my hand, this might have been tolerable. Thirsty, it was unbearable. Also, despite there being several open tables in nicer spots, we were given a table near the wait stand and by a sliding glass door. I am beginning to wonder if Open Table clients are steered to these tables. The food was good, the appetizers, especially the jalapenos were excellent. Service could have been quicker. With all of the excellent places in New Orleans, I would probably seek those places out first."

We were thrilled to get a reservation and happy with the overall experience. Good service, decent food and aNew Orleans ambiance. Not great, but good enough for folks from a Chicago suburb. Specialty cocktails were a hit with the girls."

  • "The chef, Greg Sonnier, has always been known for his slow roasted, melt in your mouth Duck. Here it is again. This time with Ramen Noodles instead of house made shoestring potatoes. Either way, it's fantastic. The Pompano cooked and served on a block of Himalayan salt will knock your socks off too. Chris Rose, well known and very talented local journalist is waiting tables there. Someone needs to give him a writing job. He's missed. Parking is an issue, but despite that, this place rocks! Get there as quickly as you can."

  • "The food was unique and had great flavors. The food portions were just the right size so that we didn't feel too stuffed to have dessert. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and bar and their standing in the restaurant community. She had not been in New Orleans long but she already knows a lot of facts about the area and people. We sat by the street and enjoyed watching the scenery go by.   • "I had the rib eye steak, the one with no bone and it was tough, had little flavor, and tasted distinctly like a cheap cut of sirloin. Not good. The brussels sprouts were tasteless, and the french fries weren't crisp...and this was on a Wednesday night. I was completely disappointed. The bar scene seemed lively and looked quite pleasant."

  • "Before we finished our cocktails, our gumbo arrived, as soon as gumbo cup was removed our entrees arrived. I could understand the rushed service if there were no open tables, but there were many tables of varied sizes and we were still hurried through what should have been a nice outing. I wouldn't have expected this from a fine dining restaurant. The rabbit gumbo was extremely salty and my scallops were extremely undercooked."

  • "Like many other reviews, I showed up with a reservation. The hostess was flustered because another, larger party had come in at the same time. I suggested we could wait at the bar a few minutes till the other party was seated. Half the tables were empty, and despite asking a few other staff what was going on with the service, our hostess had forgotten about us, and we were need seated until 30 minutes past our reservation. The bar was fine, the food was good, but if I was in a hurry I would have been upset and it's obvious the place does not have it''s act together."

Food was really great and our server (lovely young lady whose name I have completely forgotten and apologize for but she had gorgeous curly long hair!) was also great. It started with a great bartender and just continued through our entire time there. Perfect casual fun place to go and we will definitelly be back. Thanks for a terrific evening."

  • "My second visit to this Kingfish was a waste of time and money. It feels like one of those restaurants that has been around the quarter for years and does a mediocre job because they no longer have to try. Our server was so over enthusiastic, and clearly unfamiliar with the food, but coached with a script. Although she clearly meant well, she was saccharine and irritating. I am a local, and with all of the amazing restaurants to choose from, regret that I paid for this meal. Lobster bisque was thick, cold, brown, and way overlooked; shrimp wrapped in ham was overlooked and hard; stuffed mirliton served with the same brown goo that was in my soup bowl. We didn't dare stay for desert lol!"
