"Had dinner prior to a jazz concert..... what a great find!!!! Can't say enough about the service staff and host. The setting is really interesting, actually felt like New Orleans! The artwork was fascinating, and our host personally explained them to us. That was a really nice and unexpected touch.... AND, he was really "easy on the eyes"! The menu selection was to rave about! Great selection of plates. We had the Lobster Gnocchi and Grilled Shrimp appetizers... fab!!! Their cocktail selection is to love! Tried their Weed Wacker and Basil Collins... yum!!! For entree's we had the filet mignon and the seafood throne for three. What a fab and fresh selection!!! Perfectly done! Presentation was exceeded by the taste and attention to detail!"

"Food only was fair .Overdone halibut and underdone green beans for $ 32. There were only 4 green beans and 2 whole green onions ! My crab roll had seaweed which in parts was not chewable. Companions ceasar salad was also boring.... Too bad."

"The ambiance and service was great! We enjoyed the food...fresh seafood...the oyster selection was outstanding. We enjoyed the ahi tartare. The waiter was accommodating and we were able to relac and just enjoy the time there."

"Kingfish is always a ton of fun. The food is good and they have a broad selection. It's our favorite pre-movie dinner spot. If you let the staff know you're on a tight timetable they take great care of you and help ensure you get out the door on time. The seafood selections are always delicious and they have several tasty cocktails. You can also easily make a meal out of their apps. The BBQ shrimp and beef tataki roll are among our favorites."

"Poor service - I thought it might have been just our waiter but I watched others as well. No personality, never cracked a smile. Very slow. We ordered a shellfish appetizer but received no tools to crack the shells.
Steaks were over-cooked. 6 of the meals were dropped so they had to wait for them to be made again.
We had a party of 10. They put us in the corner upstairs where a street light blinded our table until we closed the curtains ourselves. If not for the good company the night would have been a total wash. I won't be back."

"I like the actual restaurant space at Kingfish, its cozy, it has a nice feel. Kingfish is right in the middle of things in San Mateo, lots of other restaurants nearby, the movie theatre, plenty of bars. The problem I have every time i leave Kingfish is that i am disappointed with too many aspects of the dining experience. First, I always ask to be seated downstairs because the second floor is always to hot and very noisy. The service seems attentive at first but seems to always fade halfway thru dinner. It always seems that every time i am eating at the restaurant there is some special event, wedding, anniversary, etc. I want to like Kingfish but at the end of the night i have paid Kingfish prices for TGIF food."
