A word from King + Duke
At King and Duke, we showcase locally sourced ingredients through simple, yet focused hearth cooking. Our goal is not to manipulate food, but to accentuate the natural flavors of our products through slower methods of cooking and the smoke of the wood fire. Through this primitive technique, constantly moving and manipulating the live fire, we invest exacting attention to the preparation of each and every dish.

Our managing partner, Ford Fry, named the restaurant after two characters in Huckleberry Finn, “The King” and “The Duke," a pair of grifters who ‘put on airs’ and pretended to be royalty, when in fact they were a couple of hillbillies who lived in the woods. With our slightly mischievous ways ☺, a huge focus on quality, yet a primitive cooking style and down-to earth atmosphere, Chef Fry felt like it was the perfect name for our newest restaurant.

  • "This was our first time at king and duke and we were not disappointed. We had the lunch special and the Duke burger. While the lunch special was nothing extraordinary the Duke burger was amazing, one of the best burgers we've had. As a matter of fact only NY has as good as burgers. Loved the place and even thoug we went after lunch rush, we were greatly taken care of. Will definitely be back for dinner service."

  • "Service was excellent and the waiter very knowledgeable about both food and wine. This was a good thing since the dessert descriptions were sorely lacking in detail. After his description it made our choices much easier. The short rib marmalade on the bone marrow was very heavy. I enjoyed the marrow much more after taking off the marmalade. The rabbit was good but a little dry. I highly recommend the duck for two. The potatoes in duck fat were outstanding!"

  • "The food was fantastic. If I had any complaint, it is that we had an 8:45 reservation for 2 people and were not seated until 9:15. We saw group after group of 4 people or so be seated, and had to wait. The purpose of the reservation is to not wait. However, everything about the food was incredible and I highly recommend this place."

  • "This was my second trip to King + Duke and as with the first, the experience was outstanding. They cook a nice selection of dishes over an open fire, have some creative appetizers, and they have a mixologist who puts together some creative and tasty mixed drinks. I highly recommend the Bone in Ribeye for two. I was cooked perfectly and came with roasted marrow which you can spread on the steak. Definitely the best steaks I have had in Atlanta. I should note the excellent and attentive service as well. All around and excellent dining experience."

  • "I had been led to believe that i was really in for a great dining experience. I was disapointed. I took a visiting guest and a colleague to lunch and expected that the experience would be equal to the amount of the bill. It was not. the server was friendly and attentive, but the food was over-priced and the ambience was cold and austere. the patio looked inviting, but it was too hot to eat outside at lunch."

  • "We were seated immediately with our reservation, great attentive service and beautiful surroundings. The outdoor area looked fantastic with a full bar and plenty of seating. The smells coming from the kitchen were intoxicating, the delicate smokiness translated right into the food. We had the burrata special, peaches, octopus (beware as it is very spicy with habanero sauce but delicious), candied pork belly (a MUST!) and chocolate pudding and a macchiato for dessert. A handcrafted cocktail called the Barbary Coast with rhubarb was perfect, not too sweet. Every dish was colorful, flavorful and beautifully plated. Only complaint we wished the dishes came a little more spaced out. But, none of our dishes were hot so it was ok. Recommend!"

  • " It really does take two hands to handle "The Duke," one giant, extremely flavorful,hand formed, coal grilled patty of chuck and dry aged cuts of beef. Don't let the price dissuade you: it is a full meal's worth; and, unlike it's gimmicky boutique gastropub competitor's, it's available all day long! Service Staff is consistently courteous and professional...and we appreciate management and chef making table-side visits, as well, every time we have come in Long live the new "burger king (& duke)" of Atlanta!"

  • "While I was generally pleased with my experience, there were a few things that keep me from raving about it. First of all, I almost killed myself biting into the octopus beak that a cook had failed to remove from our grilled octopus salad. Secondly, the lamb belly on our mixed grill plate was EXTREMELY over-salted, and I LIKE salt--probably had about twice as much as it should have. That being said, though, it was a great time and if I lived in Atlanta (which I don't), I'd definitely go back to see if they could redeem themselves a bit."

My friend and I were both delighted with the taste and quality of the food. Some of the dishes we found delightful were the Maine crab salad, the sweet corn and sugar snap peas,and a selection of roasted fresh tomatoes. The special appetizer that night was the steak tartar. That was the only dish we had that did not impress. The "Duke" burger was very popular around us, but I was delighted with the Gum Creek Farms pork chop. It was cooked to perfection. We ended the night with a delicious chocolate chip cookie tart. The service was just okay, we have experienced much better elsewhere in town."

The fish I had was so salty I could not even eat it and the server never even inquired if I liked my main course. The bread that was served was cold. We did ask for hot bread.   • "We've been going to King + Duke since they've opened and to this day, have not been disappointed. Food and service has always been perfect since we've been going and believe me...I don't fool around with my food. I will say that at times during the winter months, it is a bit hard for me to choose from the menu, as I am a very healthy eater, and so much is meat and bones. To that point, during the summer months, Chef Joe offers the most incredible Steak Tartare, best in the city. We love the roasted beets and carrots, always a favorite, and the octopus is to die for. The arctic char is also fantastic, light and healthy. Skip the pickle jar. Overall, a food lover's dream and an awesome see and be seen kind of place."

  • "First visit to King & Duke- Ford Fry has another winner. The starters although very small portions were top quality, in particular the grilled octopus. For entree my group of 3 decided on the communal mixed grill, which showcased their skill with the wood-burning oven. What a feast! In contrast to the small starters, this dish was huge and could easily feed 5. Included this night was steak, chicken, sausage, salmon and great grouper collars, along with all the sides to complement the meats. Everything was perfectly cooked and had an incredible smoky flavor I wish I could replicate at home. Lastly, our server was absolutely the best I have had in a long while. Here you get the entire package of great food & service."

  • "A colleague and I had liuch here. I had the shrimp salad which was prefect - butter lettuce and mixed herbs (dill, tarragon and parsley) perfectly dressed with a dusting of breadcrumbs and loaded with shrimp. My colleague had the soup of the day - turnip - cream based and delicious and the adult "grilled cheese" which was tasty and cooked perfectly. The dessert - buttermilk blackberry pie was one of the best desserts I have had in Atlanta - a perfect shortbread pastry crust - ice cold ice cream with a cloud of whipped cream with a hint of blackberries - surrounded by lemon curd and lots of blackberries. Worth coming for! Service was attentive but not overbearing. Servers familiar with food sources."

  • "Great spot for an inspired dinner. Everything on the menu looked delicious, salmon and snapper did not disappoint. Grilled peaches & blue cheese were amazing! There was a bit of a bar crowd at the inside the bar and out on the bar patio. Nothing crazy for Buckhead, just added to a bit of noise. All in all worth the price and good service, we will be back again for sure."

  • "My husband and I have been here several times before and decided to take him here for his birthday since we had not tried their duck press yet. Every item we ordered was so delicious, especially the lamb belly. While every thing we ordered was incredible I was disappointed we did not get to experience the duck service itself. We didn't find out that we were able to view our duck being pressed until a server dropped our duck plates at our table. After looking confused at the gentleman and our duck we thought the press was going to be brought to the table in duck press tradition. Our server failed to explain their version of the duck press presentation so we were bummed since that was the only reason we chose King + Duke."

  • "2 girlfriends and I went for a birthday dinner Sunday evening. Everything was wonderful! As soon as I walked in the hostess was so sweet and even offered to hold the birthday present behind the desk! We decided to have a beverage at the bar, and they didn't mind holding a table for us, and did not make us feel rushed. Our waiter, Mark, was fabulous and knowledgeable. You could tell he really cared about the menu and he made great recommendations. The food was delicious and the cocktails were excellent. Save room for the awesome desserts (hello Oreo skillet cake!) and Irish Coffee. This place never disappoints!"

  • "We ordered two signature dishes. The King and DUCK “A LA PRESSE”. The King was ordered to be delivered medium rare and was delivered well. The Duck “A La Presse” was also over cooked. The total meal was $373.00 for three people. All in the party felt the food was less than par and would not likely to return. The food was very disappointing considering we order two signature dishes and received both over cooked."
