A word from King + Duke
At King and Duke, we showcase locally sourced ingredients through simple, yet focused hearth cooking. Our goal is not to manipulate food, but to accentuate the natural flavors of our products through slower methods of cooking and the smoke of the wood fire. Through this primitive technique, constantly moving and manipulating the live fire, we invest exacting attention to the preparation of each and every dish.

Our managing partner, Ford Fry, named the restaurant after two characters in Huckleberry Finn, “The King” and “The Duke," a pair of grifters who ‘put on airs’ and pretended to be royalty, when in fact they were a couple of hillbillies who lived in the woods. With our slightly mischievous ways ☺, a huge focus on quality, yet a primitive cooking style and down-to earth atmosphere, Chef Fry felt like it was the perfect name for our newest restaurant.

Fantastic experience. Cocktails are my forte and I was very impressed with execution of both my drinks... I like how it was craft but not pretentious. Perfect blend... food was great although was hoping for lamb chops instead of shank. Fine establishment and well trained...

The food & bottle of wine was expensive! My wife had the Lobster dish and I ordered the steak dish. First of all, the Lobster dish was OK, but nothing special! The steak dish was $67.00 and it had grizzle in it & the steak didn't compare with McKendrick's, Chop's and/or Bone's. We were disappointed! We spent over $200.00,which we were willing to pay, but the Lobster and Steak dishes were not what we expected & overpriced! We got ripped off!

This was our second visit to Kkng & Duke. We came shortly after they opened and they had some links to work out but it seems like they've done it. We had a great knowledgable server and the food was unfussy and outstanding. The candied lamb belly appetizer was wonderful-lots of warm spice with pickled cucumber and goats cheese the lobster roast was amazing. That's how to eat lobster! The roasting brings out the natural sweetness and the citrus and Brazil nut but on top was incredible. And don't forget the Yorkshire pudding/popovers they bring you before your meal. I'm a big Ford Fry fan and King & duke doesn't disappoint.

First time at K&D. Love what the did with the interior. Cool music selection going. Looked like a large, cool outdoor space as well. Food was delicious, from the small bites to dessert. The service was outstanding. Friendly, timely, helpful. Nice, affordable wine selection. Anniversary dinner and an overall lovely experience. Glad we chose it.

I've heard so much hype about King + Duke and it's sort of true. The food is unique and delicious. The ambiance is very vibrant. I was just surprised at the way I was treated as an OpenTable VIP. I made an 8pm reservation for a Wednesdsy night and I requested Chef's Table or downstairs seating when I made my reservation, but my party of 3 was seated upstairs at a big round table for 7! It was very awkward. I asked to move to a smaller table, but was told they had nothing smaller unless we wanted to wait. I spotted a corner round table for 6 and we moved there, but the hostess was extremely curt and annoyed. Usually OpenTable VIP means great treatment, but not here, apparently. Very disappointing!

I struggle with this, because I really wanted to like this place. It took 2 months to get reservations (generally suggests an excellent restaurant) so I was really looking forward to a great dinner. Well lets just say I had a serious let down. First, the atmosphere is great, and the only reason I would recommend King and Duke would be for a starter place to enjoy a cocktail and an appetizer. The service was less than spectacular, and when your are spending the kind of money they are asking, it should be nothing short of stellar. Four dishes with one "very good" and three disappointments (one had to be comped). Portion size is an insult for what they charge. Much more wrong but not enough characters left to go into detail.

I perused the menu online prior to my visit and was sorely disappointed to find some of the more adventurous offering no longer on the menu (specifically, the redfish, duck and rabbit dishes). The lamb appetizer was underwhelming for lamb (one of my favorite meats), and the sirloin with chimmichurri was 'meh' at best, and it came out closer to medium than the rare I requested. The brussel sprouts were good, but nothing spectacular. The highlight of the meal was the mushroom side, served in a cream sauce over a crusty baguette. The atmosphere was great and our server was wonderful, but for the price, I wasn't impressed by the food, and the online menu was wrought with false advertising.

Went to King + Duke Saturday night. Server Danny was great. Food was pretty good but the tab for 4 was about $500. Admittedly, the wine was $150 of that but there are many comparable places that are much less expensive. One of us had the Duke burger and none of us had the King.

We love Ford Fry restaurants and this was the last one of his what we've tried. The decor and restaurant was beautiful and inviting. We had an outstanding waiter who gave us wonderful wine recommendations that we would not have normally chosen. Unfortunately, the food was just too salty and I ended up having to send back the pork chop because of that. I enjoyed the whole experience but probably would not go back due to the food. There are too many good restaurants in atlanta that know how to deaton their food.

Food quality is up to expectations always, service was perfect, (thank you Brian !) wine list is as big as a phone directory so challenging to find the right nectar, a bit pricy though. Upon arrival, in spite of having a booking, taken to a table right in the middle of the restaurant on the pathway of the waiters and next to the open kitchen. Not a wise choice. A bit noisy for a business discussion but nice atmosphere and crowd.

Went for the 1st time for brunch - maybe not the best way to judge a restaurant. Starter breads, especially donuts, were over-the-top-too-sweet. Beet/carrot/feta dish was delicious, as was a perfect piece of fish (corvina), and eggs en cocotte, but the home fries with the fish were literally burnt to a crisp, and when I pointed those out to the server there was no awareness that there was anything wrong with that and no offer to replace them, nor was there an offer to do anything after-the-fact when I made the same comment on the way out. Server also did not know the food well (those are yeast-raised donuts, not cake donuts!). Overall, there were good things on the menu, and clearly some talent in the kitchen, but the experience was uneven

Took my husband out for his birthday. When I called to adjust the reservation, the hostess, who was supremely nice, suggested the chef's table. Best decision ever! Incredible experience and most amazing food and flavors I've experienced out in a long time. Really unique cocktails as well. The entire night was an experience. Our waiter Danny and the chefs were all great hosts!! Gave us so much appreciation for their skills! I too one star off on service because of one cocktail waitress outside who was in attentive and not super friendly until we went to pay. She could use a little more training!

The restaurant is great looking (nice open kitchen and outdoor bar/lounge) with the added bonus of the lovely open kitchen (plus chef's table) sporting huge wood-fire hearth. The food is hit and miss. The appetizers (fritto misto and steak tartar) and the side (smoke box cornbread with ham and jalapeno butter) were great but the titular steak aka The King was okay at best. It was under-seasoned. Bone's, Kevin Rathbun Steak, Chops, and BLT Steak all have much better steaks.

I tried King + Duke because of the picture of the giant steak served with the split marrow bone, the marrow grilled to crispy perfection over a wood fire. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and flavorful. But for $87, it should have fed itself to me. Bone marrow? Not as good as it looks in the picture... or as good as it looked on Life Below Zero... just not good. The hosts were friendly and gracious and the service was adequate. The location is great, tucked away in a little Buckhead courtyard. Even with all of that... somehow, for some intangible reason, it just didn't feel worth it. It could be an economic perspective. If dropping $250 on dinner for two (and we split one King) is "casual" for you, then maybe you'll like it.

I asked the server about the wood roasted seafood and he said "well, the description speaks for itself..." The fish was so bland I would not call it wood roasted... It tasted poached. The description which was supposed to speak for itself had me imagining it was a dry, earthy roast of seafood. It was not. It was more like a stew. My husband ordered the 8 oz sirloin, medium. Came out almost purple. Server never asked how it was and when at the end of the meal 4 or more raw pieces remained on the plate, he just said "can I take that?" and whisked it away. Didn't wonder why over half the meal was uneaten... Didn't ask "do you want to take the rest home (and perhaps finish cooking it?)" The servers need to be more astute than that.

We began the meal with perfectly tender octopus with delicious soffrito and tender lamb belly flatbread. However, the meal went downhill from there ... our entrees and sides arrived 45-60 minutes after we finished the starters; and once they arrived, most of the items that were intended to be hot we're actually cold ... pork, gnocchi, charred leaks were all cold. Cornbread arrived a bit later and was warm, but was slightly burnt. Additionally, the gnocchi (which is touted as one of their most popular dishes) was tasteless. Thankfully, the staff members were all kind, accommodating and apologetic. I've read that the exec chef resigned a couple of weeks ago ... this could be impacting things there.

We had dinner once again with friends from out of town, and had been raving about King + Duke. To our shock and disappointment, we learned that Chef Joe is no longer there. There was an obvious difference in the food and menu selections. We had always loved and looked forward to the Octopus and again, raved about how great this dish was. It was carefully and beautifully charred, with potatoes and some other that made it a knock-out. We knew instantly once we saw the word "Soffritto" we knew it was a gone-er. It was terrible. A obvious influence by an Italian chef working out the damage control. Pitiful in our opinion. On the brighter side, the steak tartar was as outstanding as always. We are concerned for the future of King and Duke.

The prices for what you get are pretty good for a fine dining establishment by Ford Fry. The cocktails don't disappoint. The menu berries frequently so even if you go a lot there's always something new to try. The octopus appetizer is divine. So are all of the meets.
