Diner Reviews
  • "Ordered the tasting menu and everything was delicious. I probably would not have ordered the uni brulee a la carte but then I loved it."

  • "A small, welcoming, attentive staff that will take their time to speak with you about all of the dishes. No pretentiousness! We had a chance to talk to both of the chefs after our dinner about cooking techniques. We loved the tasting menu, and they were happy to accommodate our dietary requests. Greg, Daniel, and Rachel are very cool people."

  • "Kinfolk uses mostly farm-fresh ingredients and it shows. The orange juice was squeezed in front of us and every single brunch item was fantastic. The heirloom tomato and corn succotash was so delicious that we were practically licking our plates! The quinoa cakes were crisp and spicy, and the hangar steak and eggs were perfectly cooked. I hope this popup sticks around."

  • "Great meal and service at Kinfolk. Already recommended to foodie friends. Looking forward to the launch of 3rd Cousin."

  • "Staff is friendly & accommodating! Chef spoke to us & other diners on food & experience. Parking is difficult so come early. Small space but nicely arrange. Food is fabulous. Pork extra juicy, pasta tender but with a bite, great drink options. Overall, worth the drive even from Soma!!"

  • "Kinfolk plates are well proportioned. After sharing 2 appetizers and my own entrée, there was no room for dessert, sadly. The dishes are savory with fresh local market ingredients. Looking forward to seeing their larger location when it opens in the fall."

  • "What an amazing experience. The food, the service - everything was wonderful. You must have the seared scallops and the pork belly. As the maitre d' said - it is the best dish in San Francisco. We just wanted to get a large bowl of the truffle sauce that was on it. The duck was the best I have had in years - moist and juicy with an incredible flavor. I also loved all of the vegetables. Each preparation was unique yet delicious. I was taught that you can always tell how good a chef is by his preparation of vegetables. Judging by this, the Chef received an A+. You have to try it. A big bonus too, you can talk in normal voice tones and still hear each other. That is seldom found in Bay Area restaurants."

  • "My husband and I enjoy the many fine restaurants here in the bay area and think our food is perhaps the finest in the world. We took another couple to Kinfolk, it was both of our anniversaries, and the other couple has wheat and dairy allergies. Eating out with them can be a trying experience. However this night at Kinfolk was perfect. They felt comfortable with the many selections they had and the wait staff's knowledge was incredible. We must have had 7 different dishes and each one was superb. Possibly one of the best meals I have ever had. All four of us were delighted-it made for a great evening."

  • "We went after reviewing their Brunch munu. Dang, showed up and it was a Fathers Day price fix menu. Disappointed. Think when they can move into their permanent address they will be great!"

  • "I have to say that I have been here 2 times in one week, and I plan to go as many times I can get in there. Greg is a great chef. This place has great food, great wine. The staff is WONDERFUL. I have nothing but the BEST to say about this place. (Sunday brunch is awesome too). The only thing I told Greg and staff to their face is that I won't tell anyone how great this place is because as soon as people know how wonderful this restaurant is, they will mob it. Wait...too late. Oh well. Go enjoy yourself. Greg deserves all the respect!!!"

  • "Kinfolk was a nice little neighborhood place. The food was tasty - their maple bacon was particularly yummy, and the potatoes were awesome, though the crab & cheese egg scramble could have used a more interesting cheese as the mozzarella didn't particularly register; still it was tasty even without any cheese presence. Reasonable price, no wait, quick and friendly service - nice, drama-free local eatery."

  • "The food is excellent ! Compliment to the chef ! The service is A okay ! The only complain that I have is why can they be generous on the serving of food ? Even the main course is served in a small plate, my family is not happy about that ! Also next time,I think we will bring our own bottle of wine."

  • "Having lived in the West Village of NYC for nearly a decade, and SF now for 2 years, I can easily say that this meal was te best food I've had since I've lived in SF and is as good as anything I can remember ever eating in some of NYC's best known an hottest restaurants. The bacon scallops dish was unreal. I'm still thinking about that dish several days later. I am so pumped they're moving into a permanent location and this will be a staple of my new hood. (Btw Greg and the rest of the crew were super nice and really seemed to care that their patrons were having a great time). Kinfolk FTW!"

  • "In an area of San Francisco with many excellent restaurant choices, this is among the very best. As it is a pop-up working out of a small space, the ambience gives them much to overcome. They manage it with aplomb. The ingredients are fresh and well chosen. The preparation is exquisite. The Brussels sprouts were the best we've ever had. The steak tender and flavorful, the desserts fabulous. One of the bonuses of the small space was the opportunity to talk to the chef/owner, Greg, when all of the dinners were prepared. He is personable, knowledgeable, and interested in his clientele. Don't hesitate to give Kinfolk a try. You will savor it as a great meal and a great bargain."

  • "Kinfolk is a small restaurant but has a lot of character and charm. Staff is gracious and attentive. Food was delicious and the use of local purveyors and sustainable products were good to see. We came in with a party of 5. Every dish that came out was raved at by the party. Delicious food, comfortable surroundings, caring attentive service made this evening special for us. "

  • "While the venue is small, the chef is mighty. Amazing, creative and expertly prepared dishes that you can't believe are coming out of the tiny kitchen. The chef warmly greets each table and the waitstaff is also fantastic. Can't wait for them to move into their planned larger venue as everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy this San Francisco gem."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner earlier this week at Kinfolk! The food was delicious, the portions were perfect, and we went home very content! Try the quinoa and lentil cakes...yum!"

  • "We found ourselves suddenly child-less at 6pm on a Saturday night and were so pleased that we rolled the dice on this spot. Tiny yet intimate, we both thoroughly enjoyed rib-eyes and the pork belly/scallop starter. Chef came around to make sure we were happy and the host was perceptively aware of us without hovering. Yum!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Kinfolk - all of the dishes were well-thought out - wonderful and original flavors, good sized portions, and attentive staff. The setting is cozy, but they've done a nice job with what they have."

  • "IMHO, the current 4.5 star rating is - umm - a bit inflated. The FOH is very friendly, but clearly still learning the ropes. The food uniformly lacked appropriate seasoning, acid & finesse. Worse, an app clearly missing two key ingredients was passed off as "correct." The wine pours by the glass were stingy. To me, not a good way for a pop-up to begin its ascent to prime time. I generously rounded up to 3 stars even though I have no inclination to revisit Kinfolk."

  • "While the food was good (especially the appetizers), the service was slow. There were large gaps from when we sat down to when our order was placed; and worse - quite a long time from when we finished our appetizer and when the meal was served. "

  • "My family and I were spoiled this last Saturday with a beautiful tasting menu at Kinfolk. The chef was energetic and excited about his ingredients he had found that morning at the farmers market and mixed them into 6 unique courses each paired with delicious wines. The staff was thoughtful and lovely. A fantastic dining experience. I will be back."

  • "Greg is doing a great job and so does his staff. This was our second time there. I had the Cod and my husband had the pork chop. Both were moist and delicious.we are very glad he is in the neighborhood. We want to try his burch....the menu for it looks great."

  • "Totally blown away by the food. We were expecting it to be good but the quality and creativity of the food was excellent. There are some challenges with that space and there were some very loud patrons there that spoiled it a bit, but the food stood out regardless."

  • "There's little to say other than it's a great intimate place. The chef is ever present. And the service staff is impeccably attentive. The aforementioned intimacy gives the place a very special, family-dining vibe. The food is both unique and delicate. Fit for foodies. And the wine selection is on point. You'll love it."

  • "The chef was so gracious. He kept coming out to make sure we were enjoying our meal. And the food was delicious. All sorts of interesting flavor profiles. I highly recommend and cannot wait to go back. If you like "farm to table" concept... this is the restaurant for you!"

  • "Creative dishes with the taste to back it up. I went with two friends of mine and we all enjoyed everything we ordered - fresh ingredients, creative menu items, and everything was delicious. Loved the neighborhoody, easy-going atmosphere. Friendly service added to the great experience."

  • "I just discovered this neighborhood gem. The dishes were fresh, well prepared and inventive with the flavors melding deliciously in each dish. We enjoyed every dish we tried. My favorite was the pappardelle with baby kale, wild mushrooms, smoked mozzerella, creme fraiche, and guanciale...I usually get bored with pasta but the combination of textures and taste in this dish was superb with every bite. The beet salad and quinoa and lentil cakes were equally good. This is the best restaurant I have been in SF in a long time. It is a cozy spot with a great ambiance and the service was wonderful. I highly recommend."

  • "We came. We ate. We cleaned our plates! What a delicious menu - we are coming back to try the plates we vetoed in favor of slightly more appealing dishes. Thanks to the staff for providing a seamless dining experience with no flaws in service and execution!"

  • "My husband and I were totally surprised by how good this Luis little pop up restaurant was. I had the Duroc pork chop which was very tender and tasty and my husband had the NY strip steak/short rib duo. Short ribs were just like what mom made. All the sides were delicious too. It appears the chef changes the menu frequently depending what is fresh and local. He came out and greeted us after dinner, something he did to everyone. A nice touch."

  • "We rarely make it out to Bernal Heights, so it was fun to walk around a bit before heading to the restaurant. Cozy place with great staff and friendly chef! We had really great wine, and dinner was fun. Most of the menu sounded different and inventive, which was great for our adventurous group. In the end, the dishes that were less on the "inventive" side were the home runs, but nothing was actually bad. Actually, everything was good or great!! It's just the winners were simple (yet really solid) dishes."
