Diner Reviews
  • "This is a great location for before or after the theater, since it is right across the street from the Guthrie."

  • "We tried this out before a going to a play at the Guthrie. I'm delighted we did. The spring rolls were fresh and the sauce especially flavorful. The chicken satay was so juicy and well seasoned and I could have just about ate the dipping sauce with a spoon. The drunken noodles were amazing. The jungle curry was spicy and I loved all the vegetables in it. Beware though, because it doesn't have coconut milk it's a broth served in a bowl with a side of rice on a plate. I wasn't expecting that, my fault for not asking I guess. The ginger crème brulee I'm still thinking about. The waiter was very attentive. Everything was reasonably priced. We loved the restaurant and plan on going back."

  • "Perfect spot to have a bite before going to the Guthrie. The spring rolls, suggested by our waiter, delicious. We'll definitely have those every time we go to Kindee. Had yellow curry - with tofu - I thought the potatoes in the curry were just ok. Husband had beef tenderloin (suggested by our waiter) he pronounced it delicious. Inventive food, I had green tea crème brulee - sounded unusual, and was very good. Not too sweet, but with good flavor. Suggest a reservation - the place was full. I saw 3 people get take out while we were there. Will definitely eat there again."

  • "Kindee Thai has upped its game since its opening a few years ago. The halibut with vegies-on-skewers, brown rice and a delicious curry sauce made for a great meal!"

  • "What sets Kindee apart from most Thai places is that they offer food that is different in concept yet retain true Thai flavors. So you will not be bored with your run of the mill pad thai or curries. Food is well executed and thoughtful. And the price makes this a spectacular value. There are other restaurants very close to the Guthrie that just are not as great a value as Kindee!"

  • "Relaxed pre-theater dining. Service was attentive but not over bearing. Nice wine choices. Good appetizers, e.g. wontons filled with cranberry cream cheese; favorite main courses Thai basil with beef, cashew chicken."

  • "We like to dine at Kindee Thai whenever we go to the Guthrie. The food is great. We loved the coconut-lime soup, the fried sprint rolls, and the masaman curry. The service is prompt and friendly. We'll be back!"

  • "Fresh ingredients, good flavor, the hot food is not for whimps! Very attentive server who was helpful with making recommendations re: the menu. Couldn't get closer to the Guthrie. We will definitely go back."

  • "We enjoy having dinner here before a Guthrie production. Kindee Thai has consistently upgraded it's menu, adding better wines, craft beers, and adding dishes such as halibut. They have kept our old favorites, such as Tempura Green Beans & Sweet Potatoes, and Lettuce Wrap Fish. Food is fresh, cooked to order and served well. They hold spaces for reservations (recommended on play nights) so we can get in and out in 40 minutes without feeling rushed. It's a great place to go."

  • "What a great find, just catty/kitty corner from the Guthrie! We had tickets to an evening performance and wanted a place where we could enjoy food together, and this was it. Excellent place for vegans, as we are. We were impressed with the presentation of each plate, the flavors and the fun waiter, as well. Great evening....a nice, reasonably-priced dinner "performance" before the performance."

  • "I recommend trying out Kindee Thai before seeing a Guthrie show. It's right across the street, after all. The food was delicious, the service attentive, and the ambience amenable. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and able to accommodate reasonable requests."

  • "I had never been to Kindee but was extremely impressed with the variety of the Thai food options as well as the service we recieved on a large group. We did have reservations and they were swamped up until it was close to our time and they kept us updated and had a nice large table ready very close to our reservation."

  • "Great place to go when you are seeing a show at the Guthrie Theater or going to the Mill City Museum, as it is literally across the street from these venues. Nice variety of Thai dishes. We tried the lettuce wrap appetizer with lime sauce and the fresh lime juice was very evident and tasty in the sauce. Nice options for vegetarians, as one might expect in a Thai restaurant, with the addition of some unique dishes, such as broccoli with a curry peanut sauce, whci was excellent. Overall, a nice atmopsphere and attentive staff make this an appealing place."

  • "As a Guthrie season ticket holder, I often opt to have my pre-theatre dinner at Kindee as a top option. I like it for the convenient location, sidewalk patio, the fact that they accept reservations, comfortable ambiance and nicely presented good food. I've had better or maybe more authentic Thai food at other restaurants, but all in all not bad. Wish the happy hour extended past 5 o'clock!"

  • "This is a great restaurant to visit if you're going to the Guthrie. The food is usually very good, but we had a problem with our last visit. The time before, I had the Pad Thai and it was excellent. But when I ordered it at our last visit, it was gloppy and not at all appetizing. So I have to say that there is perhaps some inconsistency in the quality of the food."

  • "The ambiance was elegant and the food was excellent. I had a good time taking in the energy. We were seated right away and were serviced almost instantaneously. The waitress paid attention and was professional and thorough. I liked how quant it was but still managed to pull of a feeling of luxury without hurting the wallet as much."

  • "The close vicinity of Kindee to the Guthrie makes it a favorite haunt for dinner before an evening performance at the Guthrie. The food is just great. Love the cream cheese wontons. My favorite anywhere. And my husband is particularly fond of the fried spring rolls. Pad Thai is delicious. Service is very nice..."

  • "The menu is diverse, I would say it's more Thai fusion than authentic Thai. Excellent flavors; nice, fresh ingredients. Service for lunch is quick and friendly. No wait during the winter months, but recommend reservations when there is a play at the Guthrie across the street. The prices are very reasonable. I had the fresh springroll with shrimp for $5.50 and the chicken satay with peanut sauce. The springroll came with a spicy vinegar sauce that allowed the flavors of the roll to come through (but I have to admit, I used the peanut sauce - my favorite!). The chicken satay was light and not too well done. A light curry on it; peanut sauce to compliment. Love having the choice of jasmine or brown rice."

  • "We were seated promptly upon arrival. Our food and drink orders were taken and drinks were promptly maintained. The server was knowledgable of the menu and desserts. My wife and I stopped here because it is in walking distance to the theater."

  • "We have noticed a new chef on the line and we think the food and menu are just getting better and better. still the best spring role in town, plain or fried! Another good pre-theater spot if you are headed to the guthrie. With Spoonriver, Sea Change and Kindee, this is a great eating intersection."

  • "Great food - Pad Thai is always good as is the Satay appetizer. Very convenient to the Guthrie."

  • "The food was mediocre and overpriced. I read the reviews before going and thought I would try it anyways and was disappointed to learn the reviews were accurate. The food was bland. I ordered the basal chicken which is identified as being spicy on the menu and it wasn't at all. The only flavor I could decipher was the basal. The service was good and the atmosphere is lovely so I would suggest maybe going for a drink and apps but don't bother spending on a big meal there."

  • "It's location makes it very convenient if you are attending the Guthrie. Must also be great for those working in the areas nearby. Food very good, service usually excellent but once in a while a little slow if really busy. Food arrives hot and prompthly when ready."

  • "I went here for my birthday dinner with my parents. The food was very well priced for the area & very good. Some might argue the portions are a little small, but I'm not complaining. I got the Jungle Curry and we all shared the Lettuce Wraps & Spring Rolls (my only complaint of the night - the rice paper wrapping was too thick for me) & was suprised with a birthday desert! I would definitely dine in again!"

  • "The Thai based food is excellent and the prices are very affordable. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The wine portions could have been bigger. Its right across the street from the Guthrie so is an excellent pre-show choice but make a reservation."

  • "We had a large group and this place worked out great for our purposes. It was not too crowded so the noise level was such that we could easily talk with each other and the dining atmosphere is casual which is what we wanted that night. Everyone in our group like their food. The drink menu was adequate but nothing great. Overall, our experience was very positive."
