A word from Kin Shop
Kin Shop is a contemporary Thai restaurant opened by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo. The duo chose the name, Kin Shop, because “kin,” is the Thai word for “to eat” and the restaurant is the “kin” to their acclaimed restaurant Perilla, a mere seven-minute walk away.

Kin Shop’s menu features both contemporary reinterpretations of traditional Thai dishes and wholly new items inspired by Thai ingredients. Complementing Kin Shop’s menu (which is meant to be shared), are Thai-influenced specialty cocktails, a 75-label, spice-friendly international wine list with many bottles priced under $50, and a diverse globe-spanning selection of beers, many from small, craft producers.

The casual, but polished setting features comfortable banquettes, a long granite bar, and a chef’s counter for walk-in dining with a front-row view.

  • "Kin Shop shows how marvelous it can be to reinterpret traditional food, such as Thai, and play with spicing and form to delight us. Thank you Kin Shop for taking risks and giving us a chance to partake in your food imagination. The duck, roast corn, broccoli and sausage were so good I am planning our return...."

  • "Dishes were delicious...imaginative in both flavor and presentation. The short ribs were amazing...perfectly spiced and full of flavor. Duck was excellent. Wait staff was helpful and professional. Early evening noise level was very tolerable. Highly recommended."

  • "The food is outstanding. Hard to pigeon hole this place as either Indian, Vietnamese Thai, it's fusion and it's simply amazing food. A oarty in your mouth. My Friend and I came for her birthday lunch. I made an open table res. but also had a blackboard eats 30% coupon. We couldn't use the coupon because we ordered the express lunch which was an amazing deal in itself. $15 for two courses plus sides. When I made the open table res . I asked in the notes for a birthday candle to come with dessert. I can't tell you how many times I made this request and yet it was ignored. Not here. The service is attentive and amazing. Can't wait to come back and use my coupon!!!"

  • "We had the set menu for lunch, which included papaya salad(very good), mustard greens (good) and peanut noodles(very average!). The noodles were like a mashup on the plate, not very appetising to look at ."

  • "The food is always great And we adored our waiter. However, there must be some thing they can do about the noise. There aré no software surfaces to absorb the sounds. We love the food but often leave with a headache."

  • "Loved everything about this restaurant except the noise. People were literally yelling at one another. Couldn't wait to leave."

  • "I ate at Kin Shop a few years ago and liked it so much, I decided to return during a recent trip to New York City. I was very disappointed with the food as there just wasn't anything special about it. The menu is pretty limited and even the list of specials was only four items long. I visited on a Monday night and the noise level crept up as the night went on. I was disappointed with the meal and did not think there was much value for the price."

  • "The food at noisy Kin Shop was very good. The chef at the moment REALLY knows what she is doing. Grilled octopus with lime and micro greens; short rib dish was complex and delish; duck with roti and tamarind/mango spicy sauce was unusual...still thinking about it. Now the bad news. The bartender is seriously going to sink this restaurant (sandy hair and beard). In spite of several reminders from the overworked server, our cocktails took almost a half an hour to reach us while the bar tender chatted to a woman while not making drinks. The server kept asking, he kept chatting. Our appetizers arrived, then the $$ cocktails came. All wrong with the appetizers. The wine was late too. For this piece, or any price, Kin Shop was not fair to us."

  • "Food is outstanding. Restuarant can be very loud at peak hours, but quality of food makes up for it."

  • "What an excellent lunch/brunch menu! The Goat Curry is amazing, excellent amount of spice to the dish and the panko fried pork was pleasantly delicious mixed with a beautiful combination of fresh herbs in every bite. I will definitely return for lunch/dinner and send many friends. The service Very Good."

  • "My husband and I were having trouble deciding among many delicious sounding entrees and then noticed the tasting menu option. Everything sounded great so we tried it. It was one of the best meals we've had in a restaurant. The server was knowledgeable and efficient."

  • "One of the best dining experiences I've had since moving to NYC was today at Kin Shop. The ingredients were very fresh, and my meal was spiced and cooked perfectly. My server, Kate, was top-notch, as was the hostess, Samantha. Both very knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. Business was slow when I was there, but that must be an anomaly as this is one of the better restaurants in town. Highly recommended! "

  • "We went for lunch and ordered the $15 set menu which included a choice of a starter a main and a side. The food had fantastic flavor - not traditional thai but more of a mix of tastes from across Asia - and the presentation was gorgeous. Our server was knowledgable and made good recommendations. I'd definitely come back for more. I need to try the dinner menu next!"

  • "We arrived for our 9 p.m. reservation on time and were told there was going to be a brief wait. We weren't seated until 9:30. Nothing was done to accomodate us -- the host didn't even apologize. Service was slow and inconsistent. We both ordered drinks, but they came about 10 minutes apart. One of our bowls had crusted food caked on the inside; I asked for a new bowl and our waitress took the bowl, went around a corner, tried cleaning the bowl with a napkin, and brought it back to us. Given the poor service and the fact that the food wasn't that impressive, I wouldn't return or recommend it. "

  • "Phenomenal and unique Thai dishes. Good atmosphere but definitely the type of place you take someone who wants to eat well, not just who cares about a "scene". Highlights were soup dumplings, grilled octopus and definitely the cauliflower steak. "

  • "I dined by myself with a 6:15 reservation and was seated immediately in a quiet corner as requested. The service was impeccable. I had the delicious fried oyster and pork salad followed by the monkfish Meyer lemon curry which couldn't have been better. A good glass of a reasonable wine completed my meal. No dessert. All in all I was very happy with Kin Shop (my second visit) and will recommend it highly."

  • "Kin Shop has the best tasting Thai inspired street food I have ever eaten. Every dish had it's own unique flavor--we could not stop eating. In addition, the service was warm and friendly without being overbearing. The cocktails also paired perfectly with the dishes we chose. I LOVE this place! "

  • "Own interpretations of Asian classics, but I didn't get it. Taste was good, but was not worth the trip imo; prefer the classics standard style"

  • "I had never been here before but have been eager to try it for quite a while. I met a friend who I get together with a few times a year and we like to try interesting new places. We had delicious cocktails, shared one entree and several appetizers. One standout was the appetizer of ramp duplings, a special that night. The wait staff was exceedingly nice, helpful, and gracious, especially considering that we lingered and sipped our drinks after having finished our meal. "

  • "First, the service was great. Even as the restaurant became more crowded, we never felt unattended and our water glass was never empty. The food is unique and good but I think pricey for the portion size and for what it is. The cauliflower steak is tasty but it really should be a side, but because they charge $20 for fried cauliflower it is called an entree. Again, it's good, but not worth $20. Overall, a nice evening but $100 a person for thai food is a little high. "

  • "the restaurant was busy when my friend and I got there. it has a nice buzz if you like a neighborhood restaurant like that. it was too noisy for me. Food was OK and one of the beef/veg mix dish was so spicy even for a mouth that was well trained from years of living in southeast asia. Waiting staffs need to pprewarn..... expensive for the quality of the dishes. Waiting staff was very sweet but clearly overwhelemed by the crowd."

  • "Always an exotic and excellent result here after many visits, this time for Sunday brunch. The thought did cross our mind though that maybe it's time for a bit of a freshening up. The upholstery, wall covering and wall hangings seemed more than just a tad tired. Wonder if the owner's energy and resources are currently directed elsewhere...?"

  • "I liked that all the dishes were presented in a way that was good for sharing. This allowed us to try many different dishes and they were all very good. The miang of scallop an lobster summer rolls were probably my favorite. Our waiter was extremely helpful in navigating through the menu and overall was very personal and helped contribute to the enjoyable experience at kin shop. I would recommend this restaurant to others in the future."

  • "It's hard to complain because it's a wonderful place - maybe we've just been spoiled by its perfection. We're big fans but on this visit it felt like there was something going on - the food was delicious but for the first time ever the server seemed to make the food seem less appealing, was incorrect regarding ingredients even when asked (rice wrapper versus wheat on the soup dumplings for example) and just overall wasn't as competent as we are used to there. As for kitchen, said soup dumplings had no soup in them at all, by the time they reached the table the wrapper had absorbed all liquid. The aquatic veggies, which we always get, seemed to be a little less savory and more stemmy - the goat was luscious but a bit fattier than usual -"

  • "The food was great. I'm not much of a thai food buff but it was all pretty tasty and relatively light. The cocktails were excellent and strong and the staff was especially courteous. I'd definitely recommend it and will most likely return to try some other dishes."

  • "I've been here twice and sampled quite a few dishes and everything is excellent. This time the goat was especially tasty and the laab salad was great - very hot, just perfect. They should expand the menu a bit - it could use a few more **** hot dishes. They also have a very nice selection of beers."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed our meal at Kinshop. Even though the restaurant was busy, we did not feel rushed and we received excellent service. I ordered the goat curry dish, which was excellently in both original concept and execution. My friend is a vegetarian and the waiter walked her through the menu and made recommendations for her. She enjoyed the cauliflower steak. I look forward to returning to try other options on this menu."

  • "We had the Red-Roasted Duck. What a unique taste! I try to describe it to friends but with the combination herbs, the fantastic roast duck cubes and roti bread it is a taste I couldn't explain. Fantastic...."

  • "Went there with my husband for dinner on a Saturday night. Very crowded (a good sign), and fairly loud, but the food more than made up for that. To start we had the crispy oyster and fried pork salad, which was perfectly cooked, and the skirt steak satay, which was so tasty. They only have three levels of spice -- no star, one star or 4 stars. The satay was one star, and just had a very slight heat to it. The Thai basil roasted salmon was to die for -- wish I had the recipe. It was served with a coconut curry base. They give it 4 stars for spiciness, and claim they are no joke. If you like spicy, you will like the 4 star spice level, but it isn't insane by any means. Waitstaff was very friendly and helpful, and service was prompt."

  • "The limited menu makes an easy choice and everything on the menu is made with the same Thai traditions but with a slight spin. The food is incredible and a small restaurant makes for a cosy but loud ambiance. Ideal for a few friends but too loud for a group to work."
