Kin ShopFlavor that's subtle and bold?Is there such a thing? I think so. I recommend the lamb satay appetizer, the goat curry entree and the fried broccoli with Chinese sausage side dish. Well done. Friendly and knowledgeable bartender as well.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMvery special placeThe food at Kin Shop is really interesting and unusual, expanding one's notion of what Thai food is. Our group shared 4 starters and 3 entrees and every dish was complex and different while being wonderfully delicious. Make sure to get the amazing condiment sampler and some roti to accompany your meal. The service was warm and accomodating, and we sat there for a long time enjoying every course without feeling like they were anxious for us to leave our table, even though there were clearly folks waiting to be seated. One caveat--this would not be an ideal place for kids or others who don't have adventurous palates as there is really nothing "plain" on the menu (though I'm sure they would do their best to come up with something).6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Fresh Food EverytimeI have been to Kin Shop a few times, most recently I took my well traveled father and he was very impressed with the fresh and tasty food.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMsimply terrificKin Shop works .. every time.. delicious / interesting food/ easy , fun staff / another great night.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ExperienceTruly creative Thai cuisine and stellar service executed on a flowing teamwork basis. Good wine list. Strongly recommended restaurant.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as always! We go to Kin Shop once a month on average. We have never been disappointed with the quality of the cuisine and the service: the flavors are exotic and titillating, the dishes are a very pleasing change from our normal fare, the prices are fair for the value returned, and the service is always pleasant, prompt and accomodating.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, weak teaI loved the colorful menu and the execution was flawless - the flavor of each dish was bold and exciting. The staff was friendly and efficient and we had a lovely experience. The only thing that was underwhelming was the Thai ice tea - it was bland and watery, unlike any I've tasted before and I grew up drinking it in Asia & in the US. Otherwise it would've been a perfect meal.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful staff and foodThe food was very tasty and fresh from the prix-fixe lunch menu. And the staff was wonderful and very accommodating on a rainy day!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting Thai foodVery unusual and tasty menu. Enough options for vegetarians who eat fish.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMNoiseJust a little too much noise. Can not hear each other.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThai with a twistKin Shop is a gem. The menu is a modern twist on traditional Thai cooking. Very creative. Sauces are amazingly flavorful. The last ime I ate at Kin Shop we fawned over the brussel sprouts appetizer. I never filled out a comment card or wrote a review. This visit when we sat the waiter said "Hello Mr. Shaw. I'm sorry but the brussel sprouts are not on the new menu but I'm sure you will love the quick fried broccoli". It was fantastic.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Eraser..Kin Shop just erased the memory of every bad Thai meal I have had in the past five years.
Superb dishes.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious place to share platesOur second visit was as good as the first. Genuinely friendly service and outstandingly tasty and creative food without the pretentious prices. Worth repeat visits!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good, but atmosphereFood was good, but atmosphere is very whatever - restaurant design is somewhat boring and the acoustics are HORRIBLE, it was so loud I couldn't hear the person directly next to me speak.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have eaten at Kin ShopWe have eaten at Kin Shop many times and it never disappoints. We cannot resist ordering the fried oysters and pork appetizer which is always outstanding. With so many choices in New York, the fact that one returns to a restaurant is a testimonial in itself.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Tasting MenuDelicious, interesting food, nice staff, fun cocktails -- we loved it all!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTop notch ThaiIf you can't get to Queens, this is a terrific alternative, albeit at haute prices for a haute version of Thai.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is excellent. The food here is excellent. We had the chefs tasting menu - it was all superb. Wines by the glass are well matched to the food and it all was quite well priced for the quality provided.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were excellent!Food and service were excellent! We opted to share plates instead of order individual entrees, and it was great to try a variety of foods. It's a bit pricey and the portions are small, but they tasted wonderful. Of note: this is the loudest restaurant I've been to in a long time! I'd imagine it would be very unpleasant with anyone who is hearing impaired or gets distracted by background noise.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, fresh Thai, a relaxed spaceGreat, fresh Thai food from Harold Deiterle; try the specials, which tap into ingredients of the day and are absolutely outstanding.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my go-to spotsThe food and drinks here are consistently good and are served in comfortable, casual atmosphere. I've never had a dish that I didn't like, but I especially love the braised goat curry.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my all-time favoriteOne of my all-time favorite restaurants in the city!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, nice service.Delicious food, nice service. Will eat here again.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBursting with flavor. ThoughtfulBursting with flavor. Thoughtful and fun Thai infused dishes with just the right amount of spice and plenty of fat. Will definitely go back.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDidn't fulfill my hopes and dreamsI'm familiar with Harold Deiterle and had read about Kin Shop for years so when I planned a trip to NY & my friend suggested we eat there, I was excited. It has a nice ambience, but nothing special. The staff/service were superb. We had the brussels sprouts, black noodles, duck laab - all VERY good. I especially loved the duck, although it was ground meat which was a surprise. The other two dishes, a goat and a brisket curry w/noodles were not to my liking. In fact, three of us left most of those two dishes on the table. The calamansi sorbet was a very nice finish. Given the number of great restaurants to try in NY, I doubt that I'd return to Kin Shop.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food and service.Very good food and service. Ambience is basic but open kitchen adds good energy.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was so great! WeThe food was so great! We loved everything we ordered, specifically the lamb satay appetizer. Loved the atmosphere - very casual setting but still dressy enough for a night out. Server was helpful with menu selection3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been here a few times,I've been here a few times, and the food has always been amazing. If you are expecting the sweeter interpretation of Thai food, this is probably not the place for you. Kin Shop offers spicy but balanced dishes using bold flavors and high quality ingredients. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to step outside the box and try something new and exciting.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI had asked for a nice table/speciaI had asked for a nice table/special treatment because it was my anniversary and they really delivered. Gave us as a couple a 4 top in the window, which made us feel special and comped us two glasses of Cava.
The service was excellent, very attentive without being hovering.
Food was terrific. I was little worried because my gf is not always the most adventurous eater but she really enjoyed the brussel sprouts w sausage, and the fried chicken special. I had the duck lettuce wraps which were nice and spicy, and the Arctic Char special which was very nicely cooked with a flavorful broth.
I want to thank them for a great meal.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMdon't miss the arctic chardon't miss the arctic char poached in duck fat. the duck duo is also delicious (and a little spicy).3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCame here for a belated bdayCame here for a belated bday dinner. I booked it same day for 5:45pm, the hostess was very accomodative. For drinks, a fantastic, but short list, we enjoyed some Typhoons and New Fashioneds. And between us, had every beer. Not a complaint on any. For dinner, appetizers were Spicy Duck Laab****, yes, it's spicy****, and it's awesome, as well as the Pork Meatball Soup, and Fried Pork and Oyster salad. We basically made lettuce wraps with the salad, black soy sauce was delicious. Main courses were two Thai fried chickens, Braised goat, and Braised Skate. My chicken was delicious and the goat fell right off the bone. Dessert was coconut cake... and it tasted Thai, very interesting. My suggestion - try kin shop, it's unique, and worth it.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
