Kimball's KitchenSensational SunsetWe went to Kimballs Kitchen on 6/11/13, We arrived with a party of 4 at 6 PM and had an amazing dinner. Jenna was our server and she did a excellent job, not too pushy or rushing us. The steaks were great as well as everything else, however, the best part of the night was the amazing sunset view from the large windows of the restaurant. The wine list is incredible! However, I did miss the elegance of the food that was part of The Left Bank before new management and name change. I much prefer the cleaner food with subtle flavors that meld elegantly together. Kimball's Kitchen has not yet achieved this and seems to be leaning more toward the "steak house" feel, with heavier options and few vegetarian ones. The staff was knowledgable, service was excellent and the food was supurb! Paired with a wonderful bottle of red, our special occasion was celebrated in style. The atmosphere is wonderful and one of the few restaurants where you can take advantage of the amazing sunsets in the OBX. Service wonderful. Food great, but being a more upscale restaurant win upscale prices, they could have added SOMETHING else to the plate with the wonderful local tuna. The wait staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
The kitchen seemed a bit slow in getting the food out but the flavor of the food was generally very good. They rebranded themselves as a steakhouse type of restaurant. I ordered their highest price steak, the Prime NY Strip. It was properly cooked but the meat was lacking in flavor and tough as leather through out.
The wife's crab cakes were delicious. The wait staff tried to make amends by commping a desert and after dinner drink.

We dined at Kimball's Kitchen last week and had a memorable experience. While different from the Left Bank, the food was excellent. The ambience and views, of course, remained incredible. Despite the fact that the restaurant was completely full, the service was fantastic. Our waiter, Matt did a superb job, as did the remainder of the staff. We look forward to continuing to eat at Kimball's Kitchen whenever we are in the Outer Banks (which is quite frequent). Our only disappointment is the fact that the restaurant is only open May through Oct. Hopefully, it will be so successful that management will rethink this decision.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDining at Sanderling is backAfter several years of declining food at Sanderling, Kimball's Kitchen brings dining back. The setting is phenomenal overlooking the Pamlico Sound, and the sunset view makes for a most romantic evening. The oyster bar is a wonderful addition. Our soft shell crabs were well prepared. The salad was fresh and inviting, and the wine list notable, but pricey like everything at Sanderling. The food is served in very small portions, fine with me, but just so you are aware. The $28 scallop dish had only four scallops though for me that was enough. The sides were extra and a la carte which was surprising. The service is very good, all in all, I don't think we'd go again but we did enjoy the evening.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
