A word from Kimball's Kitchen
If a special evening of dining is in your plans, look no further than Kimball’s Kitchen, formerly the Left Bank. Located on the Soundside of the Sanderling Resort, Kimball’s offers glorious view of the Currituck Sound and its inspiring sunsets, outstanding service and a world class menu. Kimball’s Kitchen offers everything that is special about both the Sanderling and the Outer Banks.

Spotlighting local, grass-fed prime steaks, freshly caught local seafood, and an extensive raw bar selection, the restaurant creates a great dining experience with an upscale coastally casual environment. Of particular note are the numerous varieties of local oysters and the classic seafood tower, with a daily changing list of locally caught fish and seafood. Daily pasta and risotto specials are accompanied by an extensive Wine Spectator wine and champagne list. Children are welcome and are served smaller portions of the standard menu with a 50% price break.

Diner Reviews
  • "On our second visit, the Kimball's oysters were a highlight, the bread and service were outstanding, and the filet was the equal of any steakhouse, anywhere. The location on the sound makes the dining experience especially peaceful, like no other restaurant save perhaps the River Café in Brooklyn."

  • "Food was moderate - uncooked risotto , grouper was not fresh, had to choose sauces for entrée and they were ordinary."

  • "Second time dining at this restaurant since it reinvented itself. I am local to the area so have lots of alternatives and comparisons and Kimball's would not survive without one-time tourist traffic from the Sanderling Inn and the sound view. Wanted to give it another shot after a mixed experience a year ago, but this will be our last visit. Waited a half hour for our confirmed table, the dining room was smoke filled from faulty exhaust from the kitchen, front door was open so mosquitos were biting. The staff is very nice and friendly, the food is ok, but really overpriced. I had their special for the evening, the grouper, and even with a sauce, very dry. We dine out a lot and price is never a factor, but this is just not worth it."

  • "There is no restaurant that tops Kimball's Kitchen in this area of the Outer Banks. Top notch service, food and views."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Kimball's Kitchen on July 1 and weren't disappointed. The restaurant is part of Sanderling Resort and Spa. Extensive selection of seafood raw oysters from several different sources including Virginia, locally caught fish with a choice of several sauces (we had Mahi with coconut curry sauce) and outstanding crab cakes. Salads include a grilled romaine and a wedge salad with a light housemade dressing and blue cheese and pork belly. Dessert was a bread pudding with we both shared after a very filling dinner. Will definitely make this a part of our next OBX vacation."

  • "Kimball's is a beautiful space -- a chic restaurant in an area better known for nothing special. We really appreciated the aesthetic -- and fortunately the food and service matched the space. Not a huge menu, but plenty of choices. We had the rack of lamb and the duck -- delicious."

  • "we went to KK the first week it opened and it wasn't good. Food under cooked or over cooked. etc. This vist was much better. And the wait staff works as a team...Jenna, Frank et al led by Matt did a super job. Always there but never hovered. The grilled caesar salad was terrific. We'll go back again."

  • "If you are looking for the best meal experience in the outer banks, then go right to Kimball's Kitchen. The food, services, wine list and ambiance are simply incredible. We went several times when it was called the Left Bank, but returned this year to try it and we fell in love with it. Keep in mind it is not inexpensive, but so worth the experience if you want an elegant, refined, and delicious experience on the outer banks!"

  • "My wife and I were mildly apprehensive on this first visit to Kimball's - we had been several times in its previous incarnation as "The Left Bank." We ended up very happy. The service was still excellent, the food very good, the wine list exceptional, and the view of the Sound still terrific. My wife's shellfish entre was very good, my lamb was good (it's not a steak place), and desert was wonderful. The waiter was personable and smart about answering questions and asking the right ones to make sure we had a good experience. We go to Duck once a year, and will visit Kimball's again."

  • "Very good meal. Great view of evening sunset over Currituck Sound. Waiter Frankie and entire waitstaff attentive and made for enjoyable meal. If on Northern Beaches definitely worth your time."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary in Kimball's. My husband ordered a wodka martini for cocktails, this was one of the best ones he ever tasted. After that we had a very good bottle of Sancerre, the wine list is excellent. For starters, we had oysters followed by the daily fish entree and beef tenderloin. The food was delicious, well cooked, served beautifully. For Europeans the portions are rather big, however, as the food was so nice we almost finished everything! The view of the bay was fabulous ! We will definately go back to the Sanderling resort and Kimball's."

  • "We ate dinner here in late May, before the summer crowds, so we have no idea how this will be during the height of the season. It was a beautiful evening, and the large windows gave everyone in the room a gorgeous view. The service was very attentive, but not intrusive. My husband had the daily catch, at the recommendation of the wait staff. He said it was delicious. The menu is a kind of mix and match - the waitress helped me chose according to my likes, and I had a great combination of scallops and veggies."

  • "We had dinner at Kimballs several times last season, and returned with great expectation. The service and the ambience lived up to its performance last season, but the food was off. Hopefully, the kitchen willl return to its top quality."

  • "This used to be Left Bank which was upscale, a bit stuffy but superb cuisine and wine list. It appears the Sanderling wanted a more mainstream reastaurant and sacrificed some of The excellence of the former Left Bank"

  • "Disappointed. From the moment we were seated, the service seemed rushed and we seemed overlooked. Server did apologize but never recovered. Such an amazing view and the other servers seemed so conversational and made the experience truly enjoyable. Hope it was just a timing issue."

  • "We will always make time in our vacation at the Sanderling to go to Kimballs as much as possible! The food is wonderful but the staff is even better. Great conversation and very knowledgeable on food and wine. Huge thumbs up for Kimballs!"

  • "This restaurant is at the Sanderling Resort in the Outer Banks. My young adult daughter and I ate their for my birthday diner and enjoyed it very much. The seafood was fresh and nicely prepared. What stood out to me though, was the friendly and professional service. The sommelier came over and advised my daughter about selecting a wine by the glass -- he was warm, not intimidating, and very knowledgeable. He took her seriously and gave her excellent advice, and made me very happy!"

  • "The food was good, my meal was better than my husband's. He had steak. We thought the wines were a bit overpriced. The coffee was especially good. The star of this restaurant was the waitstaff, at least on this night."

  • "We've been traveling to the Outer Banks for 25 years, and this was the best restaurant meal we've ever had in that span. It was my wife's birthday, and they were spectacular. A terrific location overlooking the Currituck Sound, with food to match. We cannot wait to return."

  • "Great location! Great service! Great food! Located across from the Sanderling Resort with great views of the Currituck Sound. Upscale with very good food. The waiter even gave us a desert on the house. Menu has a bit of everything, steaks, seafood, and very interesting appetizers. I tried the steamed buns stuffed with pork belly and they were excellent. This is a great restaurant for "date night" but bring your credit card!"

  • "Let me start off by saying that Kimball's Kitchen is a big step up from its predecessor the Left Bank. Gone is the pretentiousness and fixed menus. In its place we now have an excellent addition to the Outer Banks. The wait staff is extremely attentive, and then there is that amazing view! Food was top quality, although my wife said the mashed potatoes were too salty. She had tuna which comes with one of three sauces. Since she couldn't decide so they brought her all three. I had scallops which were quiet nice. The arugula salad is worth mentioning. Overall we will go back to Kimball's Kitchen whenever we visit. We did hear that they are closing for the season in midOctober. Should reconsider and have limited opening during colder months."

  • "Disappointing overall. The Sanderling should be scoring 5s at all times. We enjoy fine dining, and casual dining on the Outer Banks. Service was excellent, waiter Matthew did all the right things. Beyond that, the food was, ehhh...a little bland and overpriced. We'll return again and hope to be surprised some day with a better menu to go with the price."

  • "Beautifully renovated dining room with open kitchen showing professionals diligently at work with a imposing white haired chef at the pass completing this classic picture straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Service cannot be more professional, friendly, accommodating, informative. The sommelier knowledgeable without airs or attitude, explaining wines to lay people in ways one can comprehend. And then the food: if you look for a meal you will remember, this is the place for you."

  • "Our server, Susie, was terrific. We thought the food and wine list were a little pricey, New York, Washington DC prices. The food was very good. Cocktails were made to everyone's liking."

  • "my husbands steak was wonderful, and he is picky. I had an oyster dish wich should have been left as an app rather than an entree. Overall food was exceptional."
